How do I safely do an extended fast?

Studies on the issue are inconclusive or conflicting. Just do what you normally do. IF should barely shake up anybody's routine. I would hardly even call it fasting.

For real. I'm past a 72 hour fast currently, with a goal of 96, but I may go further. First 48 of the first fast is the HARDEST. that is when you will be slammed with all your addictions. Your teeth will ache at the sight of sugary beverages. Your brain will fill with thoughts of "will I pass out? Will I die? Fuck it, it's not even worth it. I'm just gonna order pizza and binge like a motherfucker". You may even feel a little ill at this time. If you can excercise the willpower to get through the first 48 and NOT eat a sugary, carb loaded refeed, then you are on the fast track to kicking your food addiction. Hunger comes in waves. After you wait out the worst of it, it gets easier and easier to ignore. Then the seratonin kicks in, and you may actually feel pretty good as long as you're getting your salts in. It may feel scary at first, but that's honestly just a combination of addiction (especially to sugar) and the human survival instinct that says "holy shit body, eat everything in sight, so you don't starve to death if you can't find food". Body fat exists for one purpose, and that's to grant survival through extended periods of time without food. Since absence of food is non-existent outside of third world shit holes, you gotta put your fat to work yourself. Don't worry, you are not starving. Fat is food. It's also probably more nutritious than most of the shit you stuff your face with. Do not be decieved. Do not eat.

I take intermittently take naproxen for an existing injury and I didnt notice it having any effect on my 7 day fast.

How effective is fasting one day and feeding the next. Been doing OMAD for a month looking to change it up, would alternate day fasting be more or less effective

"If fasting is so good and effective why do bodybuilders still promote the 3-6 meals a day of lean meat, rice and broccoli to loose weight instead of fasting and high protein refeeds?"

Absolutely spot on. 3 to 5 days is, best I can tell, when the hunger is defeated. If you break that time window, which is easy with a little salt, you are golden and can go for fasts as long as you want. Newbs get hung up on 48s and 72s. The average mediocrity gets to a week and decides they have hit a milestone, so breaks the fast and repeats. The clever faster realizes the fast can go on until he gets a clear signal from his body to stop.

Granted, some people are going to get those hunger pains again at 14 days instead of 40 days and at 20% bodyfat instead of 15%, but on the whole your body knows what to do when you put it in fat-stores-burning mode. Let it do its thing. Don't interrupt it with meals when you have plenty of fat to burn.

Learning the discipline to do short fasts with maximum craving is a mental feat, no doubt, but learning the confidence to go into much longer fasts is part of the fasting focused life. You will fuck up at some point down the road and you will have put on some more weight than a 72hr fast can handle. Being able to just say "alright, I'm going to fast until I am back where I want to be," is the ultimate fasters goal.

Jesus. Are you serious? Surely you know there's a time to cut and a time to bulk right? For a fatass, fasting is the best option. You aren't gonna go from blobmode to strongfat. Bodybuilders don't have a problem with bodyfat typically, but what they can do is bulk and build muscle, and then do a fast to cut the fat and really let that muscle definition shine. It all depends on what someone is trying to achieve. Someone seeking pure strength probably shouldn't be too concerned with fasting. Someone who just wants to look lean and chiseled could probably use some fasting to their advantage. As always, fatties just need to cut the fat. If you're fat, and deep down you know the difference between "fat" and just having a little excess weight, then you should probably get the weight off before you worry about bodybuilding.

I'm in the cycle of death. I fast a couple days until I smoke the ganja then I binge until I have no more weed left then I feel awful then fast then buy more, smoke, then don't care then starve etc. I just hate that it seems impossible to fast when you're high.

I get stoned every day shortly before bed. My routine is to get off work, get high, jerk off, maybe play some video games and sleep. I get horny more than hungry when I get high. That might not be the case for everyone though.

Optimally you would just have one tiny meal. Like a little chunk of steak would be ideal so you bounce back into far burning mode faster. Either right as you wake up, or before bed, it's your call. Breakfast might have you feeling a little better throughout the day, but feeling the hunger at night, but pre-sleep will give you that food lull sleepiness when you need it.

How essential is this stuff at hour 20 of a 48 hour fast? Just lifted a bit and kind of have a headache but that could be from staring at a screen all day.
