If you feel tired all the time even though you get 7-8 hours of sleep go to a doctor and GET A SLEEP STUDY.
You might have SLEEP APNEA which takes years off your life, causes decreased motivation, weight gain, lower testosterone, horrible mental issues such as depression and 5x increased risk for suicide.
I used to think I was lazy and had poor genetics for weight lifting, it turns out I just had not slept for years of my life. Within a few days I noticed improvement and then over the last year it has been even better every day.

shut off all screens for 2 hours before going to bed. no pc, no smartphone, no tv.
Only lay on bed if you are actually going to sleep at that moment.

You won't be able to tell if you stop breathing - snoring isn't always sleep apnea but it can be. The doctor will actually measure your REM cycles and brain waves - I was "asleep" for 8 hours during my study but I never entered REM sleep - actually, I never went below the first phase of sleep which is when you are falling asleep. I stopped breathing 56 times per hour so almost once per minute for the whole night.
It's the equivalent of someone shaking you awake every minute but you not remembering waking up

Obstructive sleep apnea is also common in fatties. Mine got much better after losing 40 lbs and sleeping on a wedge pillow.
What did the doc do for yours? Cpap?

Yes, CPAP therapy.
Mine is obstructive too but due to excess tissue in my throat. Fatties kind of get a viscious cycle going on because the fatter they get the worse they sleep which causes them to get fatter.

Fuck okay I’m thinking I have sleep apnea. My father has it, and I’m always waking up despite suing melatonin at this point. Have had periods where I slept 2 hours a WEEK for months at a time. Lately I’ve been getting 8 or more but still feel exhausted most days and like you described. Do I just go to my general doctor and request a sleep study?

How much of a pain in the ass is a sleep study? Recently had bloodwork done and it's all clear but I still wake up tired every single day no matter how long I sleep.

When I wake up for work I feel tired even with 8 hours of sleep. Meanwhile on weekends I have trouble sleeping more than 6 hours without waking up every 20 minutes. Why is that?

Got myself a japanese futon and a half inch regular training mat to put below that on the wooden floor. It's a fucking revelation. I sleep on the back instead of my side and like a fucking rock. I actually sleep a bit less and get up slightly earlier because the thing will be flatter in the morning and thus harder, discouraging me from lazing around half-asleep. It's fucking great, less time wasted and better sleep all around, issues from sleeping on my side are gone, all problems with my back vanished, I can only encourage everyone to try it for a couple of weeks.
It's also cheap as fuck, saves a ton of space, is pretty hygiencic as long as you are airing them properly [spoiler]and aren't walking around inside with street shoes like a phillistine[/spoiler] and putting it up each night is a nice little ritual.

Some places also do at home ones. You'll go into a clinic in the evening and get the monitor put on, then go back in the morning and drop it off.
