Until you can no longer progress from workout to workout. If you fail a weight then deload by 10% and work it back up if you then fail that same weight again switch to 5/3/1 or some other intermediate program. One of the biggest mistakes is staying on a novice program for too long, did it myself and missed out on a lot of gains

i did 4 cycles of 5/3/1 without the deload weeks and overall found it to be a good program. switching to a PPLPPL split next week though after a deload

made consistent 1-2kg/week jumps. overall enjoyable. if you want to get good at bench bench a lot, etc. 5/3/1 offers that with joker sets.

If you're a large framed chad, expect to get past 1/2/3/4 before it stops

if you're a classic Jow Forums gymcel, expect to be running an "Intermediate" program with a 2 plate squat

5/3/1 is incredibly flexible, you can make it fit almost any goal yoy desire. BBB is killer for raw size, those 5x10 DLs will literally crucify you

>5x10 DLs
that shit was nightmare fuel for me. kinda glad to be switching off them. i dont really think they do anything but exhaust the shit out of me

I fucking loved them, I want to feel like ive been nuked after a workout. If that's not for you though you can always do something else for assistance

meh if i want to just feel tired ill hit my rowing machine for some HIIT. 5/3/1 is cool as a template but its basically just a weird upper-lower split with some questionable volume/set splits. probably good for power lifters?? not sure. desu. anyway i enjoyed my 4 cycles but PPLPPLx is probably better. we'll see in after i finish my next 16week cycle

w-what do the numbers mean?
t. dyel

how about yiou just fucking LURK god damn. the fuck is happening to this website where baby cock monglers think its ok to just fucking post without lurking for a few years first

>i missed out on a lot of gains by doing X

Fuck off mate, I just want to know what the numbers mean so I can start doing shit properly. I keep seeing everyone talk about 1/2/3/4 and I suspect not doing it is hindering my progress. I'm not about to waste multiple years just to appease your boomer ass.

fuck off you immigrant nigger. respect board culture and lurk. that's the first step;
fuck off back to your subredit you whiny little faggot

1/2/3/4 = 1pl8 ohp 2pl8 bench 3pl8 squat 4pl8 deadlift

5/3/1 is a program google it

summerfag detected if you lurked for less than a week you'd know what 1/2/3/4 means, shit I think you can even Google it and you could find out. go back to Jow Forumsfitness

>he counts the bar
NGMI
1pl8 is 50kg per axel at sea level. stop giving out shit advice you cringy edgy nigger

Have you tried this new site called goggle?

>refuses to even lurk for a day or two to figure it out himself
you are the cancer

1/2/3/4 is 1plate (20kg) on each side of bar (60kg total) for OHP, 2plates (100kg total) for bench, 3 plates (140kg total) for squat and 4 plates (180kg total) for deadlift. It's seen by some as a guideline for becoming an intermediate lifter, e.g you're a noob until you hit 1/2/3/4. Broadly speaking there are programs for novices (SS, SL, Greyskull etc) where you just add weight to the bar every workout with same amount of reps and sets. This is called linear progression or LP. If you exhaust your LP routine and cant make gains on it anymore you move on to intermediate programs like 5/3/1. Really if you want to understand what 5/3/1 is read the book by Jim Wendler. It's considered the best intermediate size and strength program. And remember program isnt just the rep scheme and exercises, its much more. Read. The. Book.

>r-reddit
Imagine having a meltdown about someone not browsing your specific board and shrieking about how long you've been on this awful fucking website.
I can guarantee that I've been on Jow Forums longer than you niggers but I'm sure as hell not proud of it
>whiny
That's rich coming from the fag complaining about muh sekrit club
No one ever actually references what it is

came here from fyad in 2003. i really doubt you got me beat you raging whiny new faggot

>It's considered the best intermediate size and strength program.
The kid is a really annoying faggot but intentionally misleading a newbie like him to this extent is beyond the pale user.

>bragging about being on an anonymous estonian wind sniffing chatroom for 16 years
Ishiggydiggy

He is right though, it's the most popular strength program for a reason. Also. Post. Body.

Nice, thanks for spoonfeeding me user, it looks like I don't have to worry about that shit yet.
Isn't there a big variance in how far you can get with LP because of differences in height though?
>waaaah why do people ask questions on my boaaard mommmieeee!!!
>calling other people whiny
user...
>2003
Okay, you're right you've been here longer than I have. Why are you proud of this fact?

Thats why i said earlier that 1/2/3/4 is a bullshit metric since LP gains vary by person. Genetic dead ends and boomers may be stuck on as low as 1.5pl8 squat and that's ok. Hop off an LP if you still cant complete a set after 2 deloads (provided your form, diet and sleep are all in order). Grinding on the same weight on an LP is something you shouldnt do

>Ishiggydiggy
>posting newfag memes in an attempt to seem old while talking shit to old fags
lthe absolute state

Lmao faggot ive been here only since 2015 and i feel embarrassed for it. If you've been here for 16 years that means youre probably at least 30. Being an old fag is nothing to be proud of, just shows how much of your life you have wasted away here. Pretty pathetic to be 30 and post here, i feel bad being 20 and doing this.

>i feel bad being 20 and doing this.
you'll be here when you're 30 too

I sure as hell hope not
