So what exactly is bad about Planet Fitness?
So what exactly is bad about Planet Fitness?
there are literally no oly lifts you can do there, but it's honestly fine for the price.
The hours are good, lots of thic cuties to gawk at, you can get a perfectly respectable physique there (especially if you're a manlet and don't need 100kg dumbells)
jesus, i'd rather workout at home desu. What's with the lunk alarm bullshit they have there?
A few people make a big deal about enforcing arbitrary rules. These rare incidents get attention. I used to go to one because it was cheap and convenient at the time and no one ever bothered me. I could lift and be left alone
No barbells. Dumbbells only go up to 75 lbs.
You can get unlimited tanning/massages and general cardio resistance machines anywhere in the world for just $25 a month. Good if you travel a lot and want to be able to get just a basic workout in whatever you go at what's basically a large slightly upscale hotel gym.
They discriminate against fit people
>only goes up to 75 pounds
To be honest the real reason it sucks is POCs and pop music
is it true there's a fuckton of food in the front of the place for people to eat?
Yeah. 75 is light. Dumbbells aren't just for curling you mong, they are great for building chest with db press for which 75 is my minimum, and for back workouts aka db rows where I start at 80 and work upwards.
No. There's a stand that sells muscle milk and Gatorade. Free pizza one day a month and free bagels one day a month. They don't force feed you fast food as soon as you walk in as some people believe.
that's good atleast.
There is a rule against deadlifting.
only goes up to 60 pounds at my location
also there's only one pull up bar which is perpetually occupied
never seen the lunk alarm go off, despite tons of boomers violating almost every rule simultaneously
are you joking
its actually not that bad. i go to Golds, but honestly if i had to switch to planet i wouldnt be to upset. most of them are open 24 hrs while most gyms are not. thats the biggest perk i think. locker rooms are decent to. 10 bucks a month cant beat that.
i walked into my local planet fitness to check it out, in the first 5 minutes the girl said theres no powerlifting or bodybuilding stuff allowed
>no barbells
>no pull up/tricep bars without the support
>an alarm is played if you grunt or put down a weight to hard
I can't even take a shit in their bathroom without worrying about setting off the lunk alarm.
LARP
I haven't been in a planet fitness that didn't have a dip station or assited pull up/chin up machines.
Also they let me use a gallon water jug at 4am when I went yesterday even though its against the rules, so that was cool.
If you're gonna go to a planet fatness, you're gonna have to do isolation leg work and good luck finding a way to work lower back safely, but as long as you can actually get a decent work with 75lb dumbbells its alright for the price
This is total bullshit. I see this in every pf thread. True they don’t have barbells but never once has anyone ever told me, nor is there signage that indicates you can’t. I deadlift twice a week for leg days.
Yeah, but all those machines have assitance. I guess you can just put the assistance at a low weight, and put a pl8 on it, but still... it's dumb.
I guess the dumbbells are fine, but it's hard to progress with dumbbells in my experience.
I mean I think the lowest weight setting on them is 10lbs.
How the fuck are you supposed to squat/dl/etc if there are no barbells
80lb Dumbbell rows are easily achievable. Your back is shit if you can't do 80lbs for reps. Yes I mean 80 for both arms.
>what exactly is bad about Planet Fitness
You can do it all you want, that doesn't mean there isn't a sign at the entrance that tells you not to.
Why do indians always wear shirts with collars to the gym?
why the fuck do you need to bring a gallon water jug to the gym ? for fucks sake get attention somewhere else
idk , my gym has a dip station so I aint complaining
>Dumbbells only go to 75 (some locations mac it at a lower weight)
>ez barbells only go up to 60 (again dependent on location)
>no racks only smiths that force bad movement and form
>heavy emphasis on cardio; cardio machines will usually take up more than half the gym
>pizza mondays, pizza tuesdays, and a bucket of tootsie rolls at the front desk which contradict their purpose
>lunk alarm
>annoying teens (especially since there’s a summer program)
>exercise bans (dependent on location)
>gym rats will always try to challenge you
Sucks that i’m stuck with this gym over the summer, although I think i’ve earned the respect of the receptionists. They rarely pull the lunk alarm on me despite some of my heavy and somewhat loud breathes. Annoying that people challenge me with their shit lifts too. At least I get to act like a cheerish asshole to them though.
This is a beginner’s gym, and even then, this gym should only last you 6 months or less.
When I saw that rule about the gallon water jug written on the wall I was like “who the fuck is this for? Do people actually get bothered by that?” I still can’t even imagine the mental gymnastics one would have to do to seriously have a problem with that.
There’s a crunch down the street from my PF, but when I joined up I went with PF because of my vampire hours. I’m more or less on a normal sleep schedule now so I’m considering making the switch, think I’ll give it another month or so first. Been using kettlebells for my squats, and I’ve always been shit at deadlifts anyways.
right wtf. I drink 2L of water every time I lift
no barbells only smith machines at weird snap your shit up angles
there's a blink fitness nearby, are those any good? the ads are full of gay black guys and fat chicks doing yoga poses but i think i saw a barbell in a 3d tour view on their website
Why the fuck would I not carry water in a water container? It's cheap, convenient and has a built in handle. And if I'm working in the heat I can drink that much easily, so I have them around.
The one I used to go ,when I first started lifting, had dumbbells up to 80 lbs. straight and EZ barbells up to 60 lbs . Multiple Smith machines . Physio yoga balls. Kettle bells up to 30 lbs . Resistance bands . And it also had a 360 workout area with independent dip bars , monkey bars , pull up bar variations , and medicine balls . It wasn’t to bad until shot started disappearing.
I went to a job interview and they legit said this word for word
>We kinda don't allow bodybuilders, power lifters and people like that
>We have basically no weights outside of barbells and dumbbells and they only go up to 65 lbs
They also have advertisements saying
>We're not a gym... we're Planet Fitness
I don't know about every Planet Fitness but the one by me is definitely a no-go zone.
any half decent gym has a water station to refill your shit, just bring a normal sized container
nigga I was a 130 pound DYEL coming outta skelly mode and I was doing 60 pound db rows ez, it's the fucking easiest shit.
>>We kinda don't allow bodybuilders, power lifters and people like that
that's discrimination, that's a hilarious descrimination case against them honestly if they told you that during the hiring process. A jew lawyer would love to bend over a fitness chain for disallowing people who are fit.
>buying fucking water or using the disgusting communal water fountain
Okay retard, enjoy wasting money and getting aids. Get fucking water mogged.
Think of if like raiding in WOW. Planet Fitness is the LFR of gyms. Scoffed at by anyone who wants to be at least semi serious at improving, but still pretty good for super casual people.
IT doesn't exist to help you get big. It is there so that you can sample if the whole fitness thing is right for you without spending lots of money on a membership.
>no unassisted pullup/dips
you can put the assist platform down at mine and do unassisted
also for the lunk alarm, ive slammed shit sort of hard at mine like right up next to the thing and its never gone off
It's activated by a human, not noise sensitive.
i actually get the need for something like this.
there is a skinny guy at work who was looking for a gym. i said there is one local to here. he looked on the website saw lots of bodybuilders and said no i dont want to go there.
a lot of people feel intimidated by muscles or whatever. they just want to be able to run on a treadmill and do some ez bar curls - that is the planet fitness market.
It's only bad if you're serious about fitness. If you're a normie that considers it a chore and not a hobby it's fine.
There's literally a dedicated area for dead lifting in my PF
iv been going to the one in town for 3 years and iv never heard the alarm
Dumbbells only go up to 50lbs in the pf my city has
There's no lunk alarm in mine, the only thing I detest is no oly bar and zoomers that get a free admission but do nothing but sit on machines with their phones
But there isn’t. At any of the three I’ve been to in my area.
Been going to PF Since October, as someone who has never been fit it's really been good for me. I am too cheap to pay 30-100+ dollars
for other gyms in the area, and I was intimidated by them.
I would say 95% of the people I see there are doing work and not getting in anyone's way, and whether you care or not I am glad there is
SOME that markets to people who never would go to the gym to try and better themselves (they usually just do cardio so dont get in the way).
I think seeing the massive fat people working out is just as motivating to me as seeing my bod goal bros lifting double what I do.
That being said, it can be annoyingly crowded in the freeweights and cable sections. They just added a few more benches which has helped a lot,
the main thing is this stupid teens workout free promotion going on this summer. They workout in groups and get in the way more than most.
Short version: It's stupid to hate on PF, unless your particular franchise sucks
all of the ones ive been to are full of beaners
They literally discriminate against fit people and banned free weights in most locations
The PF I work out at has barbells and smith machines. I do wish they had some heavier dumbbells, but unless you're huge or a powerlifter you can still get a solid work out there.
For $10/mo I can't complain.
We have an alarm and it's gone off...ironically at the zoomers who sit on a machine for 30 minutes and try to do the minimum weight as fast as they can and slam the weights in the process of being fucksticks.
PF sucks but I don't think free weights are banned in most locations
No barbells and limited dumbbells, ranging from a 50-75lb cap. Most of the remaining hate comes from their shitty marketing.
>"Leave the gym to us!"
>"It's not a gym, it's Planet Fitness"
>pro-fatty comics
etc.
Their business model is to sell $10 memberships to thousands of people knowing only ~50 will show up regularly and actively discourage dedication and improvement to maintain that ratio. People who recognize this as disingenuous are disgusted by it, not only because it perpetuates disgusting and degenerative behavior, but also because it makes it more difficult for proper gyms (corporate or locally owned) to enter the same area.
