Foam rolling and massage balls

Talk to me a bit about your experiences with foam rolling sore muscles and whatnot.

I recently fixed a problem I'd had all my life where my right leg was rotated outward to 2 o'clock by using a small massage ball to target the hip muscles under the ass cheek, other than that I've done zero massaging of anything and been working out for over a year, clearly I should start

nothing beats the feeling of foam rolling with a squat plug desu senpai

My physiotherapist told me to roll out my back before every workout. My back cracks less and is less stiff now.

generally it feels like foam rolling helps a bit with recoverry especially for legs and back muscles. I guess because of improved blood flow to those regions ? however it is not a magic pill to fix muscular or skeletal issues and in some cases it is at best placebo.

But it is never bad to do foam rolling and stretching, a lot of issues can be prevented if you do that.

wow thanks for the tip, i never thought that i could use my squatplug for massaging. It is kind of obvious now that i think of it

i think it's a huge meme desu

>had a nasty back tweak in early lifting career
>spent the next two years foam rolling/stretching every day
>back still hurt
>watched some video saying foam rolling doesn't actually help
>try lifting without any stretching/rolling, only warmup is 3x5 with the empty bar before squats and deadlifts
>4 months later completely pain free and increased squat by 30kg (190kg is my pb)

fuck your foam roller voodoo heretical garbage

I had chronic knee pain in my left knee from squatting with poor form. Foam rolled my IT band, and two years of that garbage just went away. I’m rolling my shin splints away now.

I think I should use it on my quads, they're so sore for days after leg day, it's ridiculous

interesting, see this is why I ask because in searching it seems some feel rolling the IT band is a meme

unironically train them more often to fix this. if you only train legs once a week it is a fucking nightmare, twice a week however and you will almost never be that sore any longer. so think about that option if it fits into your schedule.

I appreciate that user

Based and anecdotal pilled

I don’t consider it a meme. It still aches sometimes, but nowhere near where the pain was before. Might be a placebo, but I honestly don’t care. It’s $20 for a roller, just try it and see.

You want to extend and lengthen the muscle in your hip. The glutes should be tightened and IT-band slightly relaxed. For this you have to concentrate on that interior hip muscle or whatever. It looks ridic but heard it's the way to do it.

I like to roll out my legs before a warmup sesh. It’s like a warmup for my warmup. Upper body is awkward with a foam roller so I usually just go right into dynamic stretches for shoulders, back and chest.

Can't hurt, may help, but for specific problems I'd rather break down and pay for an hour of real massage.
I'm convinced you should stretch after lifting but never before. Warm up before, yes, but don't stretch.

this is what I've heard as well as far as stretching goes

thank you

I have pretty stiff leg muscles due to cerebral palsy & foam roller makes a world of difference for me. I roll my entire legs and back every morning and before & after every workout

>cerebral palsy
>still working out
Damn, mad respect bro
Yr gonna make it

good shit user, keep it up

Foam rolling isnt some magical tool, it's good for pre/post workout to get blood squeezed out and then pumped back into your muscles.

t. clueless moron with shit lifts.

Thanks anons

how did you foam rolled your ITBS away??

thanks!

this man is a chiropractor, do not listen to his lies

if your lower back hurts it can be good to take one of these and put it at a 45 degree angle across the base of your spine and rock your knees and hips from side to side as if hugging them. then reverse the 45.

much appreciated
