I went through a skater phase in high school (thanks to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series lol) and it turned out I'm way too uncoordinated to do anything but ride it. Never did figure out ollies. Tried again years later and just felt like a retard so I stopped.
Also you gotta be prepared to fall down and get booboos, a LOT

The people who hate skateboarding are losers by nature and only hate it because it reminds them of people who have it much better than them socially and physically.
You're just doing tricks on a board that has wheels, why would you care about the opinions of others? I could see why you'd be cautious if it was a dangerous sport but it's obviously not unless you're doing crazy stunts.

I started recently. Its quite fun just riding around but thats all i know how to do at the moment, no tricks or anything. The sidewalks near me are too rough to use hard wheels that let you do tricks anyway.

I started out on a penny board 30 years ago, it looked very similar to my pic. If anything you might improve a lot, or progress faster if you begin on one, because they are not exactly the easiest thing to ride compared to op pic.

i was in sf the other night and a bunch of skater bros went by down the hills doing powerslides and shit and off into the night and it made me really wish i had friends like that to do shit with. my only skater friend moved away, so i don't really anymore. though the weather is getting better, so maybe i'll start skating to the liquor store and stuff again

Back when I was a kid I used to skateboard with my best friend his onetis and mine onetis. It was just the 4 of us. We all were happy with one another. To bad it all has fallen apart when my mom decided we're gonna move. The pain was unbearable so I did everything i could to move back. After a few years i managed to move back into the same flat where we lived before. You can only imagine how broken I was when I realized that.. Idk how to put it. We were no longer good friends. I'm in my 20 now. I still live in the same flat. I still sometimes see that girl i liked because we live on the same street. However it's been a few weeks since I saw her the last time. I still talk sometimes with that guy. He's still my best friend although I'm no longer his. And I'm the only one who still rides on my skateboard because it reminds me of the only good time of my life.

love it but too insecure to skateboard in public 99% of the time. i try to find corners and isolated areas to practice but that isnt usually possible because tfw living in a city.
that said i like skateboarding when i work up the courage to do it. also while i hate the attention it draws i also get a huge confidence boost when i land a kickflip in front of a group of girls or something

yeah youre right that is what I should do. i go to college classes in the mornings and the skatepark is only a few minutes away, so it would be very reasonable for me to skate in the mornings before going to class. but the reason i havent is because i am very quiet in class and id feel embarrassed to walk in with a skateboard, i feel like everyone would stare at me.
at my old place there was a skatepark that only took me about 45-60minutes to get to. it was mostly downhill too so it was fun skating there, and it was incredibly obscure, could go out there at night and have the entire park alone. fun times, i wish id taken advantage of it more but i was too lazy. heres a picture of it, very nice place to be on the lonely friday and saturday nights, very secluded and peaceful

i used to skate alot in my youth aged around 8 till 14 on some ratchet hotwheels deck i got which lasted me a solid 6 years without detirorating, it soon deteriorated and i'd given up until i turned 17, picked it up again lasted about a year then later gave up due to anxiety, i had to be drunk before i went out just so i could feel comfortable, then later dropped it and i've had a new deck sitting in my room since. doubt i'll skate again because of anxiety and the fact i'm in my mid-20s now, and my job is tiring enough as it is ):

my history so far:
>rode a kick scooter until about 14ish. then fell out of favor since it was a child's toy.

>bought a bike when i graduated since the roads were no longer smooth near work.
>picked it up again at 24 along with biking.
Never got the anxious thing about older skaters, 90% of skaters I see are college kids on penny boards or boomers on their motorized boards.

I did go to collage with my skateboard every day. No one paid attention to me. It's not something unusual. Besides you can always leave your board at the.. idk how you call it in english. the place where you leave your winter jacket and they give you a number then you show them your number and they give your stuff back. You can leave your skateboard there.
