The Socialist bloc countries weren't rich by anyone's standards, but only because they started out much poorer--Russia, China et al were backwards third world nations with illiterate populations who became superpowers overnight and experienced unprecedented economic prosperity and opportunity for advancement. People who were trapped as peasants and serfs before the revolutions were becoming doctors and professors and engineers, and they did it without enslaving a foreign population like the British and Americans needed to do to advance--socialism enabled them to lift themselves up by their own bootstraps, without any vampiric rent-seeking (((bourgeoisie))) to siphon off their lifeblood.

If you were told it was an economic collapse, you've been lied to. It was a coup, in the New Union Referendum 77% of peoples across the entire USSR voted to maintain the USSR. It was illegally dissolved by the Yeltsinite clique, and it resulted in as much as 40% reduction in wages in some republics. Today many Russian men do not live to see 60, and majority of Russians wish the USSR would return. In minority republics like Kazakhstan, over 90% voted to maintain the USSR. This is the only referendum in USSR's history that was audited and considered valid by western observers. There was no economic collapse, merely a slowdown due to liberal bullshit post-Stalin

Under USSR people in eastern europe were as wealthy as they had ever been, and grew exponentially wealthier than they had been before. The social wage paid by Marxism-Leninism gave them unprecedented access to school, healthcare, stable living etc. Before the revolution the USSR had the same GDP as Brazil, after the revolution they became a competitor for world supremacy--this is like Ethiopians inventing UFOs tomorrow, it was unthinkable at the time.
Peoples of the USSR also did not have the benefit of hundreds of years of slavery and robbery of foreign nations that helped springboard the US, Britain and France to prosperity--they did it themselves, for themselves.

You'd be hard pressed to find industrialized countries that did not experience unprecedented economic growth post-WW2. However, that growth was far lesser during the 1945-1990 period in some, if not most USSR states, than what it could have been inder capitalism

This is actually statistically false.
It took the USSR until 1936 to return to the GDP that the Russian Empire produced under the Czar in 1913.
The entire reason the Kaiser was willing to risk it all on a roll of the dice in 1914 is because his general staff told him that based on their relative GDP growth rates, he was running out of time to be able to outclass Russia.
Russia from 1885 to 1913 was the equivalent of China now - previously backward, but with such explosive growth rates that they were viewed as *the* coming world power and a global threat.
