Some people just can't cope with the modern world. They will be missed.

most employers no longer provide a family sustaining wage; this means that women must either:
1. work and have kids
2. not have kids
3. find one of the few men who make the shitloads of money
4. be rich or have a job with a family sustaining wage, and be willing to support a stay at home dad

Women want to have kids generally, and that leaves options 1, 3, and 4 above.

#1 sucks because neither the man nor the woman in the relationship really have the energy to raise kids, since they both have to work.

#3 works for only the luckiest and most attractive women. Rich, "alpha" men have their pick of women; the other guys don't really get much choice at all.

#4 isn't a possibility usually, because women are typically denied the "good" jobs in this society, and even if they get them, thanks to the pervasive sexism in our society, they want a man who makes more than them.

The realities of this society end up being pretty depressing for both men and women, and eventually you just give up.

I will always maintain that women's suffrage was one of the worst, most illconsidered decisions in the history of the western world. People advocated for women to vote and go into the workforce with no regard to the repercussions.

In fact, universal suffrage in general is a shit idea. Not everyone should have the right to vote. The right to vote should only be given to those directly invested in the future of the nation. Business owners, married couples with children (one vote per household though), and land owners. People who are not directly invested in the wellbeing and continued success of a nation are more likely to make decisions that solely benefit them in the short run. This leads to policies that do shit like damage the family unit, generate ludicrous amounts or debt, and possess zero long term sustainability.

capitalism is in decay. no welfare for the dregs, so they are being made social burdens. the more one feels like a social burden, the more one contemplates suicide by combining a metric of sadness and failure with the guilt level they experience in burdening society. when they hit a certain saturation point where guilt and sadness is all that is left to think about, they kill themselves. they are taught by society to see suicide as heroic: if you are a drain on society, you are freeing up resources by killing yourself, especially when you can't see how you could impact or improve life by continuing or recovering from the decline youve entered.
same for drug use: society is very harsh on judging drug use (even though functional, employed people do drugs) while they encourage drugs' propagation for pleasure/recreation or stress relief. if the drugs ruin your life because you are too stressed, then somehow you are worse and a burden. eventually you have this guilt saturate your thoughts, causing negative outcomes, homelessness and unemployment and the like. eventually you just get stuck in a cycle of guilt due to abuse, then you use to relive the stress from guilt, and eventually the process hits total saturation of despair and guilt, the only rectification is to use so much you overdose and die. successful, comfortable people only overdose by accident; the discarded people overdose "by accident" but actually as a functionalist way of removing them from being burdens to society.
furthermore, these are both functions of capitalism having a lot of excess and inefficiency that leaves young people without jobs and a sense of role, purpose. a role gives people a sense of grounding and direction. choices are presented in a role; without one, every choice is open and none can be chosen properly given the effort to reach their conclusions. so, people just consume and work to consume. jobs are interchangeable; exist as a kind of corporatist welfare to keep people from suicide.

Suicide isn't seen as heroic anywhere except maybe Japan. In most places you just get the knee-jerk normalfag reaction of "le permanent solution to temporary problem xD".

they were able to eliminate the use of drugs as a coping mechanism simultaneous with societal reforms that made the material motivations for drug use less pressing. i am both against consumerist drug use while also being against stigma and criminalization of drug use. again, what they usually focused on was black market drug smuggling and cartels. individual drug use was not universally punished harshly. soviet courts for example were very informal and usually didnt escalate to jail time or hard labor outside of really serious offenses and this persisted up until the 80's.
