I legit almost did back when I was immature and my parents were making me live in a tent. I thought, "Hey, the forest(s) nearby are probably better than this. I mean, I have a sleeping bag. Why not do it?".

Chopping down fallen trees greatly upsets forest ecosystems. They are home to lichens, fungi, small animals, and insects which all contribute to the various growth and decay cycles.
Assuming it was a large forest and you were the only one chopping them, it was probably fine.but do not underestimate how intricate and valuable even the most trivial of forest dweller is for our sacred forests.
