Usually do 4-6x5-8

>deadlift
1-2x5-8

>squat
2-3x5-8

>curls, skullcrushers, facepulls, shrugs,
3-5x8-20

Basically single-joint exercises for small muscles can go higher volume. Doing a strict 5x5 only makes sense if you're doing a novice linear progression.

Weights I find I can do 5 reps for, I usually could only get 3-4 solid sets.

Load weight you can do for 6 reps, do it for 5 and rest a bit longer

5x5 is not supposed to take you to failure. If you load weight for 5 reps, you'll do 5, then 5, then 4, then kinda 4, then 2 or downright fail.

But then is 5x5 better then what I'm doing right now? I do most of my sets until failure and with a heavy enough weight that It's between 4-15ish reps.

Not really, Mark explains in the book how you should drop the weight past your head for max gains. You do them heavy in the 6-8 rep range as well.
