If you live where I live, you can see the sun 24 hours a day without it going down beneath the horizon during mid summer, and reverse in the winter, it never comes up.

If there is a change in density, sure. I do not believe there is an appreciable density gradient over a volume of air above water which serves as a very good thermal dampener.
