someone said on one of those tattoo youtube things that your tattoos should not be stronger than your personality. i think thats really smart, and a reason why a lot of hate comes on to heavily tattooed people.
i know they are bad tats, but think about steve-o, even though hes covered in crazy tattoos his persona is truly larger than them and incorporate them naturally. even if you think hes funny or not its just an example of tats feeling kind of natural.
another example is all of these movie characters that seem super cool or aesthetic, their personalities or personas are obviously very strong in the film, so the tattoos they have only add to this and enhance their character.
however, this is also why tattoos kind of communicate a 'i take myself seriously' kind of vibe which often feels very corny.
non of this had commented on the actualy art quality of the tattoo though. this is individual to the person but honestly american traditional are an easy and reliable choice for a couple reasons. bold easy to read imagery from far away and not specific to one artist a city. artists that make a name for themselves by developing a unique style are pretty awesome imo. if you spend time on instagram looking through tattoo pages [not the normie shit ones], really get into the weeds and find people from different countries with cult followings and appear super unique. part of getting a tattoo i think is finding a true artist and getting artwork you love tattooed. thats why "your own ideas" tattoos or like, a drawing from yourself or a friend is often going to look like shit as opposed to an experienced tattoo artist who is an artist preferably before tattoo artist.
