Is talking to a therapist or psychologist a good idea (I know they're two different professions)? I don't want to tell them about the suicidal thoughts because I can guess what they'll to do me then, but I still want some sort of help
Is talking to a therapist or psychologist a good idea (I know they're two different professions)...
>yes goy, pay someone to pretend they actually give a shit about you
Sorry to hear about it but are you doing any harm to yourself? Planned out everything how to die? Well, you can choose, if your issues you think can medication can help you, so do it
If you need a therapist to talk with. Vent and everything and find a solution how to fix it. Control it. Its up to you. The thing with suicidal thoughts fucking everyone has its just a question how badly it is?
No, don't bother. They will figure out you're mentally ill and get you forcefully psych warded, and that stain on your history will follow you forever.
venting is absolutely useless long term and gets nothing done
>inb4 muh emotional bottiling
weak minded
this
>I can guess what they'll to do me then
Only if you tell them you have a clear plan to do it, not just if you feel like doing it.
big pharma advert here i see, well lets give her zombie doses in the for 3 months and be slave to it. if it helps, therapist is short term and only helps with some shit, not mentally ill people. That a different matter.
>is talking to a normalfaggot to get normalfaggot advice a good idea
Only if you like her laughing at you behind her back. Or him.
I can only talk from my experience, so no, no meds ever helped me or any kind of therapy. But who knows, maybe they will work for you, you will only know if you try. Just try to not sound suicidal or too far away from reality so you don't get locked with the crazy people.
>I want to get help, I'm going to talk to a therapist
>Therapist doesn't have to do shit because they don't have to.
>They just sit there, take your money, and you imagine yourself as finally getting better.
>Because you are finally going to therapy
Biggest placebo ever.
One of the 3 core conditions of Person Centred Counselling is that you keep the client in an "Unconditional Positive Regard". This means that whatever it is they tell you they're not going to judge you for it.
Confidentiality should also be guaranteed too as long as what you are doing is not breaking the law involving Terrorism, Money Laundering or a serious threat of harm. So you can basically tell them more or less anything and that's kind of the point.
Always make sure to see their qualifacations though to make sure they are actually a propper counsellor who knows what they're doing and not just some guy off the street who thinks "How hard can it be to just listen to people?". Also remember if you don't gel with your counsellor it may be best to see if you can get a different one because it is the relationship between the counsellor and the client that helps to facilitate change.
someone took the bait
>posting in a thread that is not bait
>current year
You act like I'm the only poster here, autist.
and your acting like a cock, so have sex get some sun
Go for it. Nobody's expecting you to open up completely instantly as soon as you are there. The road of recovery is a long one. But if you find yourself being able to trust them and you can build a trustworthy relationship with them, go for it. it can only do you good.
If it doesn't work for you, you can always cancel the therapy sessions, change therapists or just try something completely else.
That dude is absolutely right!
Never get a female counselor btw, the are all dipshits.
Buy a burger from an inner city fastfood place, give it to a homeless guy and he'll listen to you squabble for as long as you want and he'll give you much better advice than any shrink will.
>nagata kabi
Does she actually exist? Is her story really true? I didn't realize someone could be this miserable well into their thirties. Makes me fear the future.
Ignore this idiots. YES, of course It's a good idea. They studied the human mind for 5+ years in order to know how to deal with people's problems. I don't know what therapist means (still learning english), but you should definitely seek someone with a degree in psychology to help you.
t. son of a psychologist
you can tell them about suicidal thoughts and risk taking, they will only want to put you in a hospital if you literally tell them you are planning to end it all very soon
By "Shrink" I assume you mean psychiatrist, which is not what OP asked about. It just goes to show that you don't have the first clue what you're talking about. A psychiatrist is not a phycologist (you need one of those for severe mental health probs) or a counsellor (good for changing and understanding your own self and come in several flavours depending on what your end goal is). A psychiatrist will not be there to listen to your problems as part of the therapy, a psychiatrist is mainly concerned with finding out why it is you're a twat (everyone is a twat to a greater or lesser degree) and invariably it comes down to a childhood trauma having fucked you up on a subconscious level. This approach usually is of limited use compared to counselling.
OP really would benefit from counselling and needn't worry at all about sharing that he has suicidal thoughts with a counsellor, they can help you understand that. In fact, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is all about sorting out those nasty automatic thoughts that everyone gets and Person Centred Counselling, when taken to its conclusion, will cut them off at the source. No therapy is ever easy, but if OP is prepared to put in the work and take it seriously then they will come out as a changed and more mentally powerful person the other side.
>suicidal thoughts
yeah. theyll just advertise the anti-depressants meme.
well worst case escenario you get drugs, best case you can get a mental illness diagnosis to skip work. WIN or double WIN
