Serial killing requires a lot more thought, deception, manipulation and stealth to succeed at it. To make it a serial killing, there has to be a definite gap between kills so that rules out any idiot who can't cover their tracks and get caught immediately.

That just kinda kills the fun of it though, its less enjoyable when their motives are valiant because theyre no longer a pariah or an outlier, theyre just doing what everyone wishes they could. When its actually a bad guy it makes the story more interesting, thats not to say you root for the bad guy, but something about one person being able to do something that bad and get away with it just brings about a sense of uniqueness that you dont really come across very often. Its like the fundamental basis for our society and they uproot it, dont kill other people, its interesting on the merit of being a natural born killer in a completely random system of humans, someone just born with the urge to kill other people, who just happened to spawn with the one trait that is considered the worst out of all them. I just want you to appreciate that for a moment, the sheer consequence of chance that goes into an anomaly like this appearing this way. It really is very, very interesting despite being so morbid.

School shooters by definition are somewhat pathetic. First there is cowardice to just killing unprepared children. Second school shooters are almost always whiny failures. Third the entire act is clickbait attention whoring because realistically there are more efficient ways to kill people than with firearms such as using explosives or fire. Really all terrorism just like stacies instagram photos is glorified attention seeking. Generally school shooters also plan to die during their spree which is also kind of lame at least serial killers actually believe they're too smart to get caught.
A serial killer can just be straight up Dexter tier vigilantes and just repeatedly murder the corrupt and evil. I mean there's really no comparing that to a school shooter that's objectively more based. I mean they still ultimately undermine societies morality but they're at least making an effort.
Then you have the guys who have parental abuse issues so they decide to get their revenge by raping and killing people who look like their parents while crying the entire time they do it. Those people are pretty beta.
