I tried OKCupid back before there were dating apps and that was the de facto online dating thing for young people. I sent out like 200 messages and never got a reply. I have not bothered with any other site or app, since it's clear I'm undateable.

I used to do better on OKCupid before it changed to be more like phone apps, because you could make up for your mediocre appearance by actually being a human being and starting a conversation that wasn't "hay haha u sexc." Apparently 95% of a woman's messages on that site were retarded foreigners so you could stand out relatively easily.

One of the problems with dating apps is that this option, to try to actually start a conversation, is basically gone. The very first thing that happened when I tried Tinder was that I messaged some girl 2-3 sentences just saying hello, and she said I "came out of the gate swinging" and made fun of me for trying too hard. Since then, it's about 50/50 that I'll be insta-unmatched for saying anything other than a canned pickup line or "hey." I'm not even joking when I say that the best luck I've had was when I was drunk a few times and was just openly rude to women.

I've had some luck on Bumble and Tinder on and off, but it's basically a 1/1000000 shot no matter what you do. And that's while I'm white, 5'10", probably 5/10, and my job title makes me seem (to thots) like I might have upward mobility. There just are too many things working against you. Women are NOT looking for real dates on there. They're on there because they're bored and desperate for an 8+/10, which doesn't ever translate to "willing to settle for less."

A woman is not going on Tinder daily, she's going on Tinder once a week when she has her weekly UGH I HATE BEING SINGLE moment, to match with 500 8+/10 guys in fifteen minutes, flirt around with the idea of fucking a few, message a couple without any serious intent, sorta wish for a miracle (oh boy what if I really do meet 11/10 Superchad on this tonight??), but ultimately SHE HAS NO REAL INTENT OF GOING ON ACTUAL DATES unless she's a casual whore. Tinder is attention porn for most women, not a serious thing.

It's a big sham. The sea of desperate men on Tinder is free entertainment for women.

To add to this, there is a small subset of non-basic, non-whore women on there, looking for real dates and willing to compromise on appearance a bit. But they aren't willing to compromise on appearance all that much, so you've still gotta be "unconventionally attractive" (meaning at minimum, probably white and some kind of well-dressed hipster). I knew one girl who did this and she told me she went on 30+ sexless dinner dates, with 30+ guys from Bumble, to "try out" dating before picking one. (Obviously she let them pay whenever they offered, which was most of them, but she split the bill on some.)

She's the kind of girl who would actually fuck a less-than-Chad guy, so there are girls like that if you are 6/10 and capable of passing as a hipster douche or whatever, but look at how much bullshit she ran even THOSE guys through before deigning to pick one. If you're a 6/10, you have to get a one in a million shot of getting this roastie, and then you have to impress her, and then even if you hit it off really well on the app, you have a 1/30 shot of further dating.

There's no point in doing this shit at all.

As my experience clearly showed, no, no you couldn't make up for mediocre looks with real attempts at conversation.

In terms of the interface, Tinder is probably the easiest one to use. It is also the most used (idk about Match and OkCupid, I think that's for older women?). Bumble and Hinge have the highest quality women. I go to one of the UCs and my god, so many hotties on Bumble.
