enjoyed the anonymity as people were more honest/vitrolic with their opinions. I continued to stay, despite having to wade through shitposting to find the occasional flecks of gold. other forums often resulted in recognizable users and had lingering post history which bothered me. it detracted from actual discussion at times. It's why I avoid Reddit as it encompasses everything I hate with the older systems that were in place. It becomes karma circlejerks, ad hominem attacks based on post history, or rampant with overzealous moderation. It's led to some of the echo chamber formation and polarization you are increasingly seeing develop in online communities and seemingly the public at large.

I had always heard about Jow Forums but growing up I was afraid of it. I was worried that if I went there I would get hacked or get a virus or something bad would happen. I also did not want to expose myself to all of the shocking imagery that the place was known for. Fast forward to me being 22 in 2010 and I am browsing the internet and I am bored and want to watch some porn so randomly out of the blue started coming to Jow Forums to watch porn and I heard about the Jow Forums army so to speak. Jow Forums is not your personal army. Anyways I started coming here more and more out of curiosity and now I post about every day on various boards.

The shock value and the secret club aspect. Now I'm here partly because of habit and partly because there's literally nowhere better as sad as that is to say. I love this site for the free speech and the evolving culture but lately reddit, jannies, and stagnant oc have ruined a lot of what made Jow Forums, Jow Forums.
