What if I'm willing to swap out the pads on the M40X? My main concern is audio quality at a relatively low price point. An extra $50AU either way is no issue, and I've got a lot of paranoia surrounding Aliexpress which is the only place I can get the Takstars.

aliexpress is ok. they're like chinese amazon. better than taobao at least. If you don't want them to have your credit card data, which is understandable, there are some available on amazon. Not sure about their authenticity though

So durable some other user a handful of /hpg/ threads ago was asking where to buy stock earpads replacement for his NAD. He couldn't find any because NAD doesn't have a decent part distribution unlike real headphone companies like Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, Audio Technica, AKG.
