First of all, I don't use apache, htaccess works pretty much everywhere now, just because googling .htaccess brings up something about apache in the first page doesn't mean it's apache.

Not sure why this setting isn't checked off by default, but auto-redirect to https is in the Jow Forums settings. Just click the [Settings] link at the top or bottom of the page.
