Which Linux distribution?

so I wanna install Linux on my second notebook, so maybe I will leave windows for good someday.
its an Elitebook 2560p with core i5, 8gb ram, ssd.
which distro should I use? Kubuntu18?
I heard Ubuntu is a botnet, is Kubuntu too?
I have no idea about Linux, just give it to me straight.
I want an easy nonbotnet OS, thats it.

devuan. no systemd botnet and its easy

I have an 8540p, and PCLinuxOS works OOB, and uses SysVInit instead of system, even had my wifi drivers

so now I got 2 recommendations I never heard about before.
interesting.
some more opinions?

how about Sabayon? They got mate, kde, lxde gnome is gentoo based and it's binary distro

ps their cinnamon is excellent for newbie

Don't do openSUSE Tumbleweed or Fedora because you'll have to hook to Ethernet due to WiFi not working oob
MX Linux is good, Debian fork with SysVInit
Puppy Linux, based off slackware, doesn't have systemd

>botnet hw
HP = keylogger central

It's a good thing I got mine through a defense contractor then
No webcam or microphones either

what?
and what does systemd mean in a practical sense? why do I need it?
I just need a nice minimalistic easy to use linux distro. I'm a total noob

You don't want systemd because, for me personally, the fact that the creator of SystemD works for Red Hat Linux, who's the biggest government contractor for Linux, and they've been constantly trying to find a way to get in and control the Linux system easily after Linus Torvalds told them to fuck off several times and refuses to compromise the kernel for the sake of "national security"
SystemD gives them the access they were looking for if they choose to use it

>I want an easy nonbotnet OS, thats it.
if you just want something that just works install any flavor of Ubuntu, Manjaro, or Fedora. look into how their package manager works, then look up different desktop environments find something you like. if you find that you enjoy tinkering around in config files to make shit behave exactly how you want start looking into installing Arch or Debian minimal testing, and different window managers.

>I heard Ubuntu is a botnet
That's just Jow Forums being paranoid. Ubuntu collects some basic statistics about app usage, but you can opt out of that in the installer. It also used to share your menu searches with Amazon, but that was removed when they switched to GNOME. (The other Ubuntu flavors never had the Amazon thing.)

Just play with Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu MATE and Linux Mint Cinnamon on a live usb, and see which you like best. Those are easily the best no-nonsense distros.

Don't mind the SystemD paranoia here
>Linux Mint is a good starter and solid DEB distro
>Solus, modern with nice but limited software to choose from.
>Gecko if you want to try an RPM distro
Just install a couple and see what you like

SalixOS. Definitely Salix. It's Slackware configured out of the box with a login manager, package managers and some useful utilities and is hands down the best "beginner" distro. Slackware if you're brave enough though, it's really not a "hard" distro, it's just that it's made to be configured to be a server or a desktop while Salix is preconfigured to be a desktop. Ubuntu used to be my go-to newfag rec, but it's no longer "Linux for human beings." It's shit, and actually harder to use than some "intermediate" or "advanced" distros in many ways.
This is a good second option, but I'd wait until their new release candidate turns into proper v2.0. The current stable uses kernel 3.6.39 which is old as fucking shit, and the packages are that old too.

kubuntu

Devuan is about to ship with KDE5. It's going to be the best KDE distro soon. There's literally no rason to use *buntu shit in the current year. Even ignoring the glaring problem of SystemD, which will be ignored for the sake of argument, *buntu systems are fucking shit. Debian is already flawed enough, as apt is the worst fucking package manager in all of GNU/Linux, but *buntu systems manage to make the experience 10x worse with all of it's retarded design decisions.

systemd is not a botnet
It has less LOC than fucking emacs. The whole "le too big to audit" is absolute bullshit and I'm getting a little tired of illeterate autists parroting opinions.
systemd has problems, pottering needs a spanking amd it does do too much, but it's not a botnet.

The REAL problem with SystemD is it reaches it's tentacles into the entire system, killing fucking everything that was traditionally used in GNU/Linux, and it's spreading so far that at some point, if things continue, it will be literally impossible to use GNU/Linux without SystemD. This is why we have to promote as many non SystemD distros as we can so that people still have a CHOICE, which is what GNU/Linux is about. We already have to use udev and pulseaudio in fucking everything.

Install CloverOS

If you insist on Linux, then Alpine Linux.
But really you should snag a BSD -- any of them are fine. TrueOS is beginner friendly. I prefer OpenBSD.

OpenBSD has no software.

go to distrowatch.com/
look at page hits
install 1st distro

t. lenovo using superfish'd nigger

You can use whatever the fuck you want on linux.
Personally, pulseaudio made it so that even my annoying hardware + software audio setup just werked on linux.
I don't understand why you suckless niggers are so triggered by functional software.
Don't you have to go recompile your rice into dwm?

>You can use whatever the fuck you want on linux.
Not for long. What's going to happen when Firefox lists SystemD as a dependency like they did with pulseaudio? If not Friefox, somtheing else literally everyone depends on. The conspiracy is too deep to be comprehended. Freedektop faggots and RedHat want totalitarian control of Linux, and if they can't get into the kernel, they'll have the next best thing.

Firefox is open source, fork it and patch out the systemd dependencies.

Good luck gethering the resources to maintain a non-meme fork. Very rarely cna you get a bunch of furfags to work for free, eg. palemoon, but it's not often. Big projects like Devuan are a rarity because people have better shit to do. This is just an excuse to blow of the most OBVIOUS fucking takeover of GNU/Linux that has ever happened. GNU/Linux is Europe, and SystemD is """Syrian""" refugees.

Wtf are you on about?

WiFi detection works fine on most hardware. Most likely answer is you need non-free driver's which some distros ship with the install media because they like to ignore legal issues.

user you really need to take your meds
set an alarm for them or something

An ad-hominem is not an argument. SystemD shills need to fuck off. People need to know the TRUTH about RedHat.

drop the autism and people might listen to you

I'm still waiting for you to stop calling me names and offer a refutation to my points.

He can't because he glows too much

Helps to search your model ahead of time about driver issues. look into video/wireless/sound/etc. in their forums. PCLinuxOS has been great to me, but I had to toss an external wifi for a Dell D531 for simplicity. Could have gotten the broadcom working but naw. not playing that. Not a huge deal as I have spare tp-link usb adapters.

Basing on the comments, there something wrong with HP Laptops?

Not the elite line put 100%, Pro is hit or miss. Anything consumer grade is absolute complete shit.
