>try to talk to coworkers at work >most of them seem to flip between boomer talk and "look at me I'm a Chad" style of conversations >it's either about their children or how drunk they got last weekend >none of them seem to be interested in discussing technology or programming >the rare people who are genuinely interested in their field seem to be shunned in private >this was the norm in several different workplaces
Was this field always so infested with normalfags? I pretend to be interested in their small talk so I won't be viewed as a sperg, but at the very core I don't really understand why a 2 year old boy shitting its' pants is a better conversation topic than anything programming related. Hell, I've heard people calling other people "too silent" because they were actually working instead of discussing home renovations or kindergarten admissions.
that's cause other people have life, and you are just arrogant faggot.
Isaiah Walker
People don't want to talk about technology all of the time, even the enthusiastic ones won't be autistically enthusiastic like you.
Christian Hernandez
At least there's some diversity of topics at your place m8. At my place it's exclusively sports talk.
Andrew Hall
because the workplace is a coffin, people get a job so they can live and die. it's all they have
Angel Ramirez
Office culture is generally shitty, it's the same everywhere. Part of the issue IMO is needing to deal with many different ages of people, who often can't relate over much.
Landon Green
I do get that and I wouldn't even mind but the ratio seems to be like 9:1 and people seem to raise their eyebrows if you talk a little bit too much over that. Bizarre as hell.
Isaiah Jones
>just want to be left alone and browse Jow Forums during lunch and breaks >get harassed into talking about normie stuff with coworkers
I don't have that problem in my office. Maybe you set it up wrong? Turn it on and off again?
Noah Gomez
Why do you care? Go find the people who want to talk about tech and become friends with them.
Jordan Collins
>Hell, I've heard people calling other people "too silent" because they were actually working instead of discussing home renovations or kindergarten admissions. >tfw I'm that silent guy Fuck off already, I'm running at 150% overdrive because there's no fucking way to ever catch up with the mess I'm dealing with. I'm basically the company's shitfilter.
I spend 8 hours of my life 5 days a week with these people
Joshua Jackson
Ignore the breeders and talk to people you want to talk to then?
Aiden Rogers
>be experienced a network engineer >oldest guy in dept >young administrators always come to talk tech, and learn from me >get bored after two minutes
yeah i prefer to talk with girls from HR about weather. i get laid that way actually.
Zachary Bailey
>the rare people who are genuinely interested in their field seem to be shunned in private "Oh hi Mark. I want to do my python script for the day and I am late on it. lets talk when I finish" -> This is how I tell you that we will never talk.
Nicholas Scott
>talking to coworkers about anything of importance just do the retarded small talk. if you say anything controversial you'll get ostracized and or fired. those fucking retards are not worth your brain power anyways
Sebastian Hall
Oh god kill me
Grayson Gonzalez
>around 10 people in our office >you can only hear keyboards klacking >we usually just talk over xmpp (and matrix recently) >mostly job related stuff, sometimes smalltalk like weather and shit I suspect them to be spergs like me, but we hide our powerlevel pretty well.
Isaac Collins
Because those people have other experiences in life that are more fun to talk about. If you can only talk about work related shit that means you do nothing of importance in your life and have no friends. If they notice you are not interested in any other topics besides work then you will be labeled as a creep.
Carter Gomez
i understand your pain user. luckily i found an office with a bunch of nerds. problem is now though, they rarely wanna talk about anything besides programming or work. still better than the alternative i suppose. if this is what you want, find a place that does stringent code reviews and has a strong engineering culture.
Colton Ward
Because they're normies? Jow Forums is also pretty normalfag place nowadays. These people are there either to make money or they grew up wanting to make video games, but are forced to write boring code and since they're unintelligent they won't re-educate themselves into something more fitting them.
Very few people are nerds or intelligent, otherwise we'd have Leonardo Davincis every generation, but we have only one.
Adam Bailey
> wouldn't it will be bore for people sometimes? normie, of course most of them interest in technology because they don't work in tech. for people work live in tech and still speaking about tech, sound like another day, another doug.
Carter Scott
>everybody goes to college and degrees are massively devalued >you now need a fucking associates agree in something to work at mcdick's It's amazing how uppity "intellectuals" (read fedora tippers and normalfags) will ruin everything if given the opportunity.
I recommend that anyone who hasn't gone to college or who's just starting out should seriously consider a skilled trade. You won't go into massive debt and there's nothing dishonorable about a little bit smaller paycheck and working with your hands. You'll have better job security while the machines replace cashiers, human resources, programmers, and all manner of other jobs that can be automated. But it's going to be a while until machines are smart and cheap enough to be able to be put at every construction site or in every home to do wiring or plumbing. Don't pay into the capitalist ponzi scheme that is college. Your degree won't be worth shit in 5 years and you'll just be 100k in debt, unable to rent even the smallest crackerbox.
>read some stats on your local team >think of sports not as an athletic endeavour but one of logistics
Joshua Sanders
>boomer talk breeder =/= boomer The word you are looking for is breeder, unless your work-mates were born around 1946
Andrew Ramirez
Or you can just get your degree in a country where high education is free or costs peanuts compared to US.
Jaxson Perez
No you don't.
Gabriel Lopez
lol gramps get with the times
Colton Torres
I study in one of those countries, but good public college schedules make it hard to work and study at the same time. There are private universities if lesser quality that are more expensive, but still payable if you have to work and study. There's one cheap public university that's distance / virtual so it's the best bet for working and studying at the same time, but beside programming courses the rest of the courses are made of writing huge essays in Microsoft Word. So they consume 9 to 12 hours or more a week per course just writing in Microsoft Word.
Cameron Clark
>What is that conference networking thing all about?
Most workplaces have guilds, conferences or study groups where like minded people get together and discuss technology.
You are just an idiot.
Kayden Adams
>programming can be automated Only basic website shit can be >people that do welding or construction cant be automated Hmm they most certainly can be
Hudson Ross
My coworkers are all pretty into what we do. One of the guys has been progtamming as a hobby since DOS was a thing.
Josiah Brown
Please fuck off back to the YouTube comments, Rajesh.
Kevin Gomez
Normie coworkers are the worst.
Asher James
>get diagnosed with asperger's >get on welfare >in my 30s and never even had a job
if you're too autistic to be a normalfag but you still have a normalfag job, you're doing it wrong.
Levi Butler
>work with literal 20 yr old redditors and 40-60 yr old experienced IT managers >redditors are into windows, rpi, playing normie games, spotify, linus tech tips, and watching the latest movies >one of them spergs out about his mech keyboard at work >IT managers are well matured tech autismos, but with generally have good conversation about things they did in their career It's actually not too bad here. The only indian that works here turns on pandora and plays 70s-80s pop and rock music all day.
Kayden Nguyen
> >it's either about their children or how drunk they got last weekend I can understand kids, but getting drunk? Are they younger than 25?
Andrew Green
This is what happens if you let normies in.
Ian Rogers
Why the fuck would anyone want to talk about fucking work in private? Are you so pathetic you have nothing else going for you than your vapid enthusiasm for consumer electronics goods?
Matthew Nelson
I'm currently working off my last days in this company and every they I'm showing them more and more of my true power level. It's going to be fucked when I start with the new company and I'll have to hide my true stances on things again...
you have autism who the fuck wants to talk about technology or programming
Eli Ramirez
Why would you pursue a career that you have no interest in?
Josiah Bennett
It's my life pretty much. (Not op)
Landon Smith
>get the equivalent of less than minimum wage and live like a worm No thanks, I like money and I don't like depression.
Apologies, I forgot this is Jow Forums and I'm not allowed to have any actual interest in technology or programming
Colton Price
a lot of people don't like their jobs
Jaxson Stewart
Some of my colleagues don't even have a PC back home... And they are "Software Engineers". They do what is asked from them and then watch sports or whatever... I don't have anything against sports per se, but not being interested one bit in the field where you work is sad in my opinion.
Camden Garcia
programming is ok but "technology"? seriously? just because it's electronic or has a computer in it it's suddenly interesting? that makes you a boring person
Anthony Morales
Normie dudebros should be bullied out of tech jobs.
Ethan Cooper
>redditor who sits next to me asks if I like the color green >ask him why he thought that >says I like browsing sites with a lot of green text in small boxes Power level is going to be compromised soon, glad I installed the black background and white text addon for waterfox to try and hide this.
Hunter Morris
sadly you're too beta to bully anyone irl
Robert Taylor
>90% of this thread are probably toxic coworkers that management sees as a problem because of their unwillingness to cooperate with other coworkers >will probably post a thread condemning normies for their own pitfalls
Feels good to not be a whiny faggot when someone has more interests in their life outside of technology and actually care about other shit.
>shuffle awkwardly over to coworkers >they're talking about yucky normie stuff like beer and their children >none of them are interested in talking about ricing their desktops or shitting on apple toddlers >none of them have even heard of desu no bachi uwuhentai: sashimi ninjitsu, my favorite manga
Why are normies like this reeeeeeeeeeeeeee?
Tyler Richardson
> interests > how drunk they got last weekend Uh-huh.
Blake Sullivan
>having fun and talking about it is the most terrible thing ever
Simple.. it's time to get a job at a tech startup with younger people who are passionate/hungry about tech, it's potentials, and growing a business. If you're at a 'retirement home', the conversations will be different. That being said, the issue with solid tech work is that its exhausting and consumes you totally.. So, there's no [small talk]. I've worked in the valley for some time... People really dont 'chat it up' per say. Everyone's too busy w/ work and deadlines.
Andrew Rivera
yeah u could - but you won't
Jason Barnes
you sound like such a little bitch
Camden Murphy
if anyone is getting bullied out it's the honest quiet enthusiasts remember the stuff about firing 'incels' for them it has a very broad definition
Christian Hernandez
incel means you're a virgin you fucking virgin
Brody Rogers
>micromanaging boss >tries to force me into "socializing" drinking beer at some bar when I clearly expressed my lack of interest in events of this kind the day prior >"international" company, on 3 person meetings, the two other people usually talk local language, excluding me from talks >on teleconferences one of the remote guys has always some noisy kids/family interrupting calls >incompetent IT >people drink at work, get drunk and nag others to drink with them Boring talks are my least concerns. Good that I'm turning in resignation next week.
Ryan White
do you also have that guy who takes Adderall and comes in quiet in the early morning but after the med kicks in the mofo blabs non-stop about everything and anything? then by the end of the day, when the drug starts to wear off when becomes more silent, depressed and weird?
> you need to be a normal fag sheeple to have a life no faggot, you still can have a good life but talk about interesting stuff that don't involve you getting shitfaced in last night's party or talking about how cute your little boys are.
Christopher Miller
>>get diagnosed with asperger's >>get on welfare >>in my 30s and never even had a job >if you're too autistic to be a normalfag but you still have a normalfag job, you're doing it wrong.
Except Spergers can work and more or less function just like anyone else.. How the hell does that qualify someone for the easy life?
Michael Lee
>getting drunk and puking and peeing all over the place and being an overall degenerate is fun
Julian Howard
i even have a 1 year old and hate bringing him up. people are always asking and I don't say much and I think they get the hint.
Its like a group where everyone is a casual drinker and they find out you don't drink.
I don't mind talking about non-tech stuff. Its just the boring shit like "is your son walking yet?". people aren't creative.
Robert Price
He's probably a low functioning autist larping as aspergers.
Brody Richardson
try getting a job somewhere you dont have to work with teenagers
Jonathan Young
>special job agency or whatever it's called tries to say I'm high functioning enough to get a job at a gas station >shit and piss my pants >take handful of shit and throw it at freedom-hating jobcuck and smear shit all over everything while crying >now I'm no longer marked as "high-functioning"
Kevin James
Is your son doing calculus yet?
>never gonna make it
Ryan Richardson
already have a job with a team of responsible adults.
Evan Lewis
"superhero movies are for basedboys" *never talks to me again*
Levi Gutierrez
>not having any funny or fun stories to tell to anyone >living just to be miserable and die with nothing to show for it >life is serious business 110% of the time >your marriages and personal relationships fail because of the 'business as usual' attitude
> implying bragging about getting drunk is an acceptable social behaviour If you're 13. Otherwise, I'd rather not work with immature people. It's like said, older coworkers are better.
Nathaniel Martinez
>incel means you're a virgin you fucking virgin Wrong. Celibacy doesn't imply you never had intercourse.
Asher Collins
god, i can't believe this made me chuckle.
>I'm basically the company's shitfilter. you do know you don't have to right?
>i get laid that way actually. no you don't
>we hide our powerlevel pretty well. lucky fucks, the lot of you.
Noah Jackson
I just detest people who voluntarily ingest ethanol.
Luke Morgan
Sorry I prefer kino like Schindler's List.
Julian Morris
>How did you like ((insert capeshit movie)))? They're great entertainment, for my 5 year old nephew.
Joshua Bailey
So? What's wrong with being boring?
Carson Gray
>I just detest people who voluntarily ingest ethanol.
>implying its not >has been acceptable social behavior for thousands of years and is considered a social bonding because its something everyone can enjoy across any and all cultures
This is what happens when you tell people that there is money to be made
Jack Powell
>browsing four chink during work power level already gone
Jose Nguyen
I want alkies to leave my Jow Forums and go back to /alc/ generals on /ck/
Jordan Miller
>take that stick out of your ass Ethanol numbs the central nervous system and inhibits critical thinking. I need all my cognitive faculties to process even just a tiny fraction of all sensory input. I actually do vape. Nicotine possesses nootropic properties.
Nicholas Martin
I dont drink either but hating people who do is just being a faggot >I actually do vape. hahaha
Joseph Carter
Unless the words "Jow Forums" show up on my browser, I will be fine otherwise. I'm glad this site doesn't throw around it's branding as much as other forums.
Eli Robinson
How about we make our own mega-Jow Forums company?
Alexander Gonzalez
>hating people who do is just being a faggot >muh hate you have to go back
Lincoln Hill
its not my hate, its your hate you fucking fedoralord
>bootcamp '''developers'''' discussing technology >literally hurts hearing how they form strong opinions about things they can't even comprehend
at least I don't have to visit g that often
Eli Rivera
From my experience, this happens at shitshops with a low bar for hiring. It's not always like that.
Get a job with more academically oriented people. If they don't have any upcoming, self hosted courses and such, it's probably not great (key word being upcoming, because everyone's had something in the past that they'll point to if you ask).
