So anons I had asked you for some help regarding x250 screen replacement. Well I ordered some x240 screen and just held my fingers crossed and tossed it in my x250 and voila, it worked.

Now I have fhd on my x250. Neat.

Anyone here tried undervolting their T410?

daily reminder

Attached: x220.jpg (800x1200, 719K)

both are good laptops
depends on whether you want a bigger one
pretty sure there isnt an m.2 drive
there is a slot for mpcie/msata which is at sata2 speeds (better off just buying a bigger 7.5 inch SSD)
t. x230,x260,t430 owner

Does the t430 have an ips display

The wireless card in my t420 is performing pretty poorly. I have the Intel centrino wireless-n 1000, and I noticed on the thinkwiki that the ultimate-n 6300 has a bug in newer kernels that will not be fixed. Does anyone have any experience with that card/bug? I could also get the 6205 but would prefer higher bandwidth if the bug is rare/not that bad.

tn

I bought a T500 today for a few bucks that was being sold for parts. The keyboard was bad, so I replaced it with a keyboardfrom a T60 I had laying around. My laptop now works, but I'm left wondering, what renders some of the keys unresponsive, and others working fine? Is The keyboard tha tI replaced salvageable?

Can you make the x220 fhd?

my one doesnt
think its the t430s that has the ips option (dont quote me on that tho)

...

there is a kit but i have no experience with it
requires soldering, specific displays for specific models

Which X model would I need to buy to get a fhd display

How do I disable Bluetooth on start up on the x230 running Ubuntu?

Based lenovo has actually fixed S3 sleep for X1C6 with a bios update.

(New) Support Optimized Sleep State for Linux in ThinkPad Setup - Config - Power.
(Note) "Linux" option is optimized for Linux OS, Windows user must select "Windows 10" option.

Not stock but there is a chinese adapter board on ebay that allows you to use IPS
Yes with nitrocaster's mod board
it doesn't however it was the first vs the regular T430 to get a FHD mod

A few questions:
>how hard is it to unlock the BIOS on the x-series up to 220;
>what are actual alternatives to the tablet variants in the Thinkpad series (latitude/elitebook) if any (the w700 is fine, but I want a capacitive screen);
>is the go-to place for ThinkPads eBay or is there another more obscure place?

What I want is a portable Linux-capable laptop with a digitizer screen that I can both work on my art commissions and study with. Been considering buying an iPad plus an apple pencil from eBay, but the lack of an actual keyboard is a nono for programming purposes.

what are the main differences between a X230 and a T430 (except the display ...)

What's the general opinion here of the x1 carbons, particularly the gen 3 and 4?
>soldered ram & CPU.
at least it's light and thin with a half decent keyboard.

I want to buy my first Thinkpad because I need a small laptop. The T420 looks great and cheap.
I can get one 900p model for 170 euroburgers (decent price here). Should I pull the trigger ?
Do I require to flash a new BIOS to change the CPU ?

Attached: reallymakeyouthink.jpg (554x601, 9K)

You're going to get people praising them and people saying they're a disgrace and you should only get x220/t420 or older, and then you'll get people saying that anything Lenovo is trash and you should only use ibm thinkpads.

You only need coreboot for ivybridge CPUs, if you swap to a different sandybridge you should be fine

That's nice. Thank you user. How is battery support on the T420 and the X220 ? I saw and I guess some knock off batteries are not supported ?

>wireless N card
>100mbps
damn, this shit works fucking great

>small laptop
take it from a T owner, you WILL feel it carrying around, and it WILL take up alot fo space in whatever bag you're carrying it in

That picture is bashing the x230/t430 which both have a way of checking to make sure the battery is a Lenovo part. T420 and x220 don't have this, although I would suggest trying to get a legit battery while they're still available since the knockoffs are known to be pretty crappy, and the Chinese one I got on Amazon didn't work at all.

Shut up homo

The main purpose of the laptop is to shitpost while on my bed. The only thing that will carry it are my car and my legs. Don't worry.

Thanks for your input. Will see if there is anything relevant on Amazon.

By the way, do you think this :

Is a good product ?
It claims that it's original but I really doubt it. Buyers are happy with it.

I have no way of knowing really, but others in /tpg/ have said that the Chinese batteries work great at first but lose their capacity very quickly.

I see. Thanks.

Should I buy a x200t? Wont use it for much else than taking notes and practicing my handwriting.

Tracking is lagging in Ubuntu 18.04 and fiddling with sensitivity settings doesn't fix it. Is this still some issue with "libinput" or whatever, anyone know?

Is it true that, with time, the display cables on the tablet variants of the ThinkPads break after opening, twisting and closing over and over again? Someone just told me that was a problem with older models.

Hello /tpg/ I want to get a laptop for browsing the information super highway and capturing 720p video/livestream with a haupauge. Would this thinkpad work?

Looks like one of the uncommon T430's that came with Sandy Bridge instead of Ivy Bridge. Not really that big a deal, but it'd be better to get Ivy. Either way, it'll do decent with 720p video streaming, I use a similar laptop for recording games with an AverMedia external capture device and it works fine.

What's the best ThinkPad for College / fighting games (heaviest game I play is tekken)

I updated the bios on my new T440p to 2.50 without thinking about it. Have I fucked myself out of bumblebee when I switch to linux? I'll go to great lengths to downgrade to a version like 1.14, any suggestions?

Can you ewgf 5 times in a row?

I need a laptop for school and some gaymen. The heaviest game I plan to run on it is Red Orchestra 2 with low settings. Budget is ~$1000.
Closest thing I can find is a T480 with the dgpu and good display, but those things just don't exist anywhere.

If you mean Tekken 7 then you're probably not going to be playing that unless it's the newest laptops.

I've played FightCade smoothly on Pentium M machines like X41

I play Kuma.

What can comfortably play tekken 7 for a budget of ~$700 then?

>a T410s commonly goes for around $70
Dare I?

How thick is the hard drive on a t400? I need to replace the drive but im not sure if its 7mm or 9mm. I measured approximately .3inches with a ruler which is around 7.62 mm. But again thats an approximation. There’s a cheap 128gb ssd off amazon for 30 that’s 7mm and it interests me just not sure if i should buy it.

The Thinkpad x200, how's the latency on the pen? Is it good for drawing? I wanted something to test out on before I try buying something more expensive, and it can work as a travel drawing tablet.

Cute sticker, where'd you get it?

dirtydrive.bigcartel.com/
one of the guys from does it

>got an X250 for $200
>500GB HDD, rough condition, 1366x768 panel
>upgrade to 250GB SSD, replace palm rest and keyboard+trackpad, upgrade screen to 1920x1080 IPS panel, polish everything up, re-paste CPU and clean out fan all for $200 and a few hours of time
$400 and a few hours for a basically factory refurbished quality higher-end X250.
Feels good lads.

T430 is a solid choice if you still want it, just check the specs and make sure it's an Ivy Bridge CPU

It has a kit that's literally plug and play, it'll cost you roughly $130 or so screen and all. Mad comfy though.

Who is this anime thot

Tablet ThinkPads are just okay. Unless you can deal with the lack of screen space you aren't going to be an artist with it very easily. They're okay for quick things but nothing serious. Pressure sensitivity is just 512 levels, IMO you are better just getting a cheap Wacom.

something not a laptop

If you're looking small then go with the X-series. T4XX series isn't massive, but it's not small. If you're down to look a little harder/longer for a T430 then I'd recommend that over a T420 any day.

I put a 7mm ssd in my t400 just fine

Shouldn't really matter much because you screw it into the caddy and use the rubber rails, so I'd say 7mm.

I do have a normal tablet but wanted to try drawing on a screen before I go for the cintiq meme also. The screen size is 12.1 inches so it's not a huge problem, my very first tablet was like half that.

Is there a better laptop/thinkpad you'd recommend though?

How to apply custom charging thresholds to a t430 with tlp, when I try it it just gets stuck, it won't charge or discharge.

sudo tlp setcharge
It resets every time you remove the battery.

cant control my brightness with Windows 10, is that normal?

>windows 10
why even bother posting here

I've only ever seen that when doing virtual machine stuff, or do you have some pirated windows 10? Or maybe whatever you're on has some proprietary brightness settings.

Check if everything is ok with igpu driver.

Anyone know where to get replacement keycaps? The clips on the back of one of my shift keys broke after removing it for cleaning and it won't attach properly anymore. I have a T430 with a backlit keyboard. Seems non-backlit models have different method of attachment which is the only other part I have on hand unfortunately.

Did you replace the screen?
It might not have the right FRU assigned to the epROM
You can change it w/ Linux, but I forget how.

Does the laptop need to be plugged to the AC adapter?

It shouldn't need to be

I need this too.

Where's the Trap?

Device Manager detects a PCI device with a question mark, but everything detects both the Intel and ATI gpu

No, Windows 10 Education, but I did use the toolkit to remove a bunch of windows bloat

>not dual booting
absolutely disgusting.

hi there, thinkpad newfag here
i installed ubuntu today on one of SSD's that had an old windows installation on it. i used a live USB to install ubuntu 18.04... my problem is i get this black screen after post with only a small blinking cursor at top corner.
it only starts ubuntu when i boot off of the USB. its installed on the SSD for sure but i just dont understand what i doing wrong. trying to learn something new.

Attached: blackscreencursor.jpg (1944x2592, 940K)

>inb4 bill gates shills plz help me

what happens when you press Alt + F2?

I need a new thinkpad. What are the differences between x201, x220 and T420? From what I understand, the X201's keyboard is slightly better, where the X220 is lighter/thinner then the T420?

Hey anons. I want to replace the hard drive in my x220 with a faster SSD. I don't know jack shit about working with laptop parts though as I've only worked with desktops. Can someone give me a run down of like sizing/compatibility problems I should look out for?

What model?
Most of the Thinkpads I've worked with do not use the GPU driver, they use the brightness signal from the ICH southbridge.

Should I just stick to buying used x220s whenever I need a new one for the rest of my life?

should i try that during the Black screen of death? or at boot

how often do they die?

nothing happens when i press alt f2. hmm.. maybe i fucked up GRUB when i installed the OS

you buy an ssd
you stick it in
easy peasy

Yes

There isn't like a specific size of ssd I need?

No

At the black screen.
Sometimes when you boot into the system to the cursor in top left corner, it's because the display manager failed. Alt + F2 switches to a second TTY window where you can see logs/debug (at least on Arch).

you buy an ssd
you stick it in
easy peasy

The list just got longer again...
It doesn't even fit in one post anymore fuck
Also, has anyone changed out the trackpad sticker on their **20/30 machines?
I don't use mine at all but I'd like to swap them out for nice new ones. Are there different textures available? Do the old ones remove cleanly?
(I stick to the memepoint on my older machines and the elitebook has a glass trackpad that basically doesn't get any wear at all)

Also, new best deal in used bizniz laptops: BIOS locked HP 8440p's. HP will still unlock it for you over the phone and you can find entire lots of them for under $100 bucks.

Just like sex bruv

Should've just installed Windows
>inb4 bill gates shills
>fucking up Ubuntu
Please explain why you think you shouldn't use Windows

Well, you need a T15 driver to get the sled off the old drive. But apart from that, it's a field swapable part, yeah.

You guys weren't fucking kidding. One week in and I am accustomed to the clit. I wish it could be more sensitive so I can cover more area quicker but it's pretty damn great
