HDMI IS SUPERIOR TO ALL OTHER STANDARDS!!!!

ALL OTHERS WHO SAY OTHERWISE ARE CONTRARIAN BASTARDS! It's more mainstream than displayport, has a higher audio quality than TOSLINK/optical out and is way cheaper than firewire, thunderbolt and USB-C.

Stop shilling other industry standards!! We only need one and that's HDMI!!!!!!

>Friendly reminder DVI-D was the only worthwhile competitor at the time

Displayport actually technically is better and also looks better. If you've never used all of these you would probably shill for HDMI but DP actually looks better the colors are sharper and have true coloration vs. the odd tinting of HDMI.

this this and this
OP is a retarded NPC consumer

DisplayPort is literally better and pushes higher resolutions you dolt, as well as higher refresh rates and better colour profiles.

yeah but fucking make the 8k@240hz standard already, don't keep fucking changing versions. incompetent fucking retarded hdmi. and it's not even an open standard
>HDMI® Specification 2.1 is the most recent update of the HDMI specification and supports a range of higher video resolutions and refresh rates including 8K60 and 4K120, and resolutions up to 10K. Dynamic HDR formats are also supported, and bandwidth capability is increased up to 48Gbps.
imagine being this fucking retarded that they keep leapfrogging short steps like this

DisplayPort is better and cheaper in every way.

with HDMI companies litterally have to pay shekels to the jewish company that owns the interface. its not a good interface and people should stop using it.
>audio on a display cable
what the fuck just use a seperate cable for audio, why is this a problem?

just curious, how does it compare to DVI-D?

>cant do more than 60hz
yeah sure lmao

DVI is ok, it's not as shit as people make it out. It really depends on your video adapter at the end of the day and the quality of everything.

But DP is king.

this was never a problem
how are you people fucking putting up strawmen like this?

Dp is better in every way. And mini dp is also better

It's what dvi-d is but sleeker and simpler.

>It's more mainstream than displayport
Chipsets all produce eDP/DP internally, there has to be an additional converter to produce HDMI.
eg, laptop displays are all native eDP.

dvi is old and big

>going to be rolling out with a new HDMI standard next year
>no one is putting displayport on 4K televisions despite it being FREE and does everything HDMI does but better

What is even the difference in DVI and Dport?

the only tinting you could possibly get from hdmi is if youre in tv output instead of monitor. its a fucking digital cable. it doesnt matter what the the connector is as long as it has the bandwidth.

maybe you should actually check on your retarded ideas before spewing them.

i wonder (((who))) is behind not having displayport on tvs

hdmi is shit, but digital signals are 1s and 0s, and those don't fucking get "tinted"

HDMI is an A/V interface. It replaced the mess of A/V standards under a single interface.

Displayport is a computer display interface which is far superior for computing needs. You can a ton of cool stuff with Displayport (VRR is just the tip of the iceberg)

There are a number of differences between them.

Suffice to say, that Displayport addresses a number of short-comings of DVI.

>It's more mainstream than displayport
For TVs maybe, modern graphics cards come with more DP outputs than HDMI and every decent monitor has at least 1 DP input.

displayport is fucking trash the standards get used and abused by random oems like a cum dumpster and as a result you get all sorts of out of spec adapters, cables, and ports.

fuck off DP shills

>muh open source standards

are you retarded?

The way the brightness is allocated per pixel does dictate if it gets tinted you dickhead.

v3 should be like USB-C so it will go in both ways.

DP > HDMI

Only point to use HDMI is when you're forced to.

The board behind the HDMI spec is literally all TV companies. It's so blatantly obvious as to why they refuse to put display ports on TVs. It's the only way they keep it relevant.

>VGA
outdated cancer
>DVI
Less outdated but fuck hueg
>HDMI
just cancer
>Display Port
DVI's real successor

Display port doesn't do audio?

i like dvi-d because xbox hueg & screw-ins

>and big
whoa its like 150% the height and width what a huge problem
>is old
just because something is old doesnt mean its bad.

Butthurt HDMI TV user

>Displayport actually technically is better
citation needed

>comparing analog with digital
Come on guy. use your brain for once.

>DisplayPort is literally better and pushes higher resolutions you dolt
you say that 25.92 Gbit/s > 42.6Gbit/s
wut

bbut goy .. there are these wonderfull HDMI cables.. you need this for the best quality possible...

there's a setting in nvidia control panel that enables full color range for hdmi

It does.
Although some of the 2008/9 macbooks with miniDP didn't do audio over DP (but a Dell 2408WFP could receive audio over DP)

>future standard is better than current standard
WOW

NOT EVEN 144HZ ON 1080P

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The only real advantage of HDMI is its availability on every TV. It's either that or VGA.

Because those companies like meaningless signal encryption that has not stopped a single case of piracy to date.

It prevented BD piracy for about 6 months until the AACS keys were leaked so ripping from the display ceased being a useful path.

HDMI is garbage and the only reason anyone is using that shit is because of fucking televisions. DisplayPort is all around a better cable and a better standard.

Pretty sure people could easily rip them by putting them in a PC blu-ray drive before that. Even if it was some inefficient process like capturing the video and audio output from the screen and speakers.

unironically this

Not until the AACS keys leaked.
BD wouldn't output anything but 480/576p over analog video (even Component) or DVI/HDMI without a working HDCP chain.
It was a pretty short period though and HD-DVD was rippable day1 due to not requiring encryption (and most discs shipped without it and without region coding, since neither were required on HDDVD where they were both mandatory on BD)

Tha'ts not say BD's were useless until the keys leaked though, 480p downscaled from a 1080p/AVC@50mbps source was far better quality than 8-12mbps 480i MPEG2 from a DVD.

DVI is dogshit for laptops.
Good riddance.

>DP actually looks better the colors are sharper and have true coloration vs. the odd tinting of HDMI

>wanting to cuck yourself into using smaller things

DisplayPort over USB-C is the future. We all know it to be true.

>shilling the hollywood jew
fuck off with your HDMI garbage

People want to pay to have license security/support/industry standard/etc.

HDMI is physically the worst designed video interface ever devised, the connections are a bitch to work with and without line of sight you can fuck up the connector or the port, and for whatever reason 98.5% of all HDMI cables are inflexible pieces of hard plastic garbage that protrude 45cm from the port and look retarded at both ends putting further pressure on the ports or inline accessories/adapters for no good reason.

Panasonic added DP in their TV/players for a few generations but it hasn't caught on with the bigger brands.

DP is objectively better but HDMI is more universally supported. It's the same shit with USB C vs Micro USB.

what?

HDMI connectors get loose and cables can fall out because there's no locking mechanism

How does usb lock then?

Not him but Citation also needed for the opposite dumbass

The person who made the claim has the burden of proof. That's just how debate works. user didn't actually claim either way anyway so user literally has nothing he can prove.

The issues with DVI are much more to do with resolution and refresh rate than size.
You can get a passive adapter for HDMI -> DVI for laptops.

Displayport has a lot more bandwidth than DVI-D, and can also carry audio without breaking the standard. Technically it's possible for DVI-D to carry audio as well, but it's not a part of the DVI standard.

To put the bandwidth difference into perspective, the maximum supported resolution for >dual link< DVI-D is 2560x1600 at 60 Hz.
Meanwhile, Displayport 1.4 can do 3840x2160 at 120 Hz.

pixels don't go over wires, retard, a digital signal goes through wires.

it does
even dvi does audio

.>what is mini-dp
>what is dp over type c
hurrr durrrr

show me these hdmi 2.1 devices, retardo

usb-c is trash

>been common on laptops and phones for 4+ years
>has existed as a standard for over a decade
>random cables off Amazon will fry your shit

fuck usb-c

Don't buy shitty cables that don't respect the standard then idiot.

you're an idiot. hdmi is garbage, but for none of the reasons you layed out. what a fucking idiot...

Literally read OP

because i know enough cables respect the standard before hand

>reputable brands like LG, Anker and monoprice have all had issues manufacturing usb-c cables producing batches that'll kill your gear

what fucking year do you live in?

>display port chaining

Attached: ps.png (662x367, 98K)

the retard is looking at HDMI 1.0 that is over 16 years old instead of HDMI 2.1

he shouldn't look at hdmi 2.1, though. show me devices that use it

More mainstream means better now?

you do realize that displayport will shit extremely hard on hdmi 2.1 before it even comes into existence

2018...

hdmi connectors ARE stiff and the connections break more often than dvi/vga/scart and usb put together which makes no sense since wall mounted flat panels barely get moved

USB has retention springs on all sides whereas HDMI port gets assaulted every time you insert a cable.

Attached: usbr-a_thumb.png (240x180, 9K)

Let me guess, display port use gold plated connectors am I right?
