Noise SUPPRESSION. I did this at uni, out some decent Panasonic over ear drivers in them, it was nice. Now I just drink to down out the noise.

How can you fuck this up? I've been cutting my own hair for the past 3 years and buzzing it is definitely the part where it's inexcusable to fuck up.
Run the the thing over your head not just once, but multiple times.
Make sure you buzzed everywhere.
Check around your ears, and in your neck a couple of times.
Take a shower and let it dry
Run your hand over your head to feel if you missed spots.
Ask someone to check.

that's not "noise canceling" that is "noise reducing"
while noise reduction is a huge part of noise canceling headphones, you are no better off than a cheap pair of over the ear headphones with thick padding (a la beats)
