This is barely half the pressure it would have to survive if someone sat on it. The point is it's shit and doesn't have any protection from bending whatsoever. The "thin" selling point is a bad one when you can't stop the device from breaking. This is almost the same shit they did with "touch disease" design flaw, except this time the outside of the device is flawed.
They made the glass too thin, the sides aren't properly glued/soldered and there is one hole on each side of the device which is a potential breaking point. If someone presses against the device slightly harder than necessary something will break.

Sturdiness has to do with materials and structural design.
I'm not going to claim the iPad should be able to survive his bend test (it's much easier to bend larger things) but there are clear weakpoints in the design that Apple failed to reinforce.
This'll likely result in more devices breaking than you would expect.
