When will freetards stop defending this literal garbage? It's so vastly inferior to every single alternative it's scary.

Even literal webapps outclass it as an image editor or drawing software.

I thought it was only designed to complete with MSPaint, why would you expect more?

I use Krita

I would literally rather use MS paint. At least it's lighter and has better UI.

krito is the best

It does it job for cropping out porn for my Steam avatar so it's ok in my book.

yes, gimp already fucked

Krita should be the definition, I cringe every time people use GIMP as the definite open source image editor, it's user base is literally the contributors, anybody else doesn't fucking care if it died.

Krita is for drawing not editing images. Linux has no decent image editor.

i see its a "my rich daddy bought me photoshop when i was younger and i am unable to adapt or learn anything else because i am an underage zoomer who likes to pretend they use the 3 features photoshop has over gimp" episode today

>2018
>Still no fucking CMYK support.

You know damn well that nobody purchases Photoshop. You're just some weirdo that for some reason decides to use bad software rather than break copyright law.

i use vim

I don't use photoshop because it only runs on a shitty operating system.

>It only runs on two shitty operating systems.
Fixed that for you.

Run for your life!
Adobe employees are on the loose again!

I have used Shotwell and Darktable, but mainly batch process my images in Blender because I have written python tools for it, but yeah, it's true that if you are a brainlet that needs a wizard or at least a lot of hand-holding with your image processing there are few tools on *nix. Maybe you should just stop being a baby and git gud.

ugh what's wrong with gimp

The better question is:
when will botnet fags stop being butthurt that there are FOS software that are equal to their proprietary shit and are aswell free as in free beer? Get over it, it doesn't change your stupidy when you insult the morally and intellectually superior choice in a Zimbabwean whale hunting forum.

I love GIMP
I've made many really good pictures with GIMP

There's really no reason not to use GIMP, except because your employer is paying for Photoshop already, due to 'industry standards'.

You can do 99% in GIMP that you can do with any other similar software. This thread is just hating for the sake of hating. OP is literally a bully who picks on the other kids because they let him. All it takes is one kid to punch him in the nose and he'll run crying to mommy.

tldr; OP is a moron. This thread is shitty bait.

Can agree.
GIMP is totally underrated.

>hur dur my operating system doesn't need a web browser I just wrote my own page downloader and html viewer git gud
kys, people like you make linux users look retarded.

Behead those who insult GIMP

>every single alternative
What are these alternatives OP? Krita is good but not really comparable. And no, proprietary software is not a valid alternative

if you are using something as a hobby I really don't care how easy or hard it is for you, if you are using something to make money you will learn how to use tools to make money, people like you who complain that they can't hobbylobby something and therefore it's bad are a cancer and should be purged from the face of the earth

>people like you make linux users look retarded.
they are retarded

>vastly inferior
>Even literal webapps outclass it as an image editor or drawing software.
Imagine bring this retarded

frak you!
monkies can paint with horse arms with freckles and fly with pigs as they dance, RMS eats toe nails.

youtu.be/67KtxG_0DVo

why the fuck did he do this
on camera, in public

people like you are always picking on and harassing the cool kidz
stop the hate!

Or maybe your OS is the shitty one.

This. Absolutely this. Gimp is perfectly fine for any non-professional work. I can't comment on how good is it for professional work since I'm not really a designer, but for creating memes and light touchups it's great.

My employer offers to pay for Adobe CC. I hate the "as a service" business model, so I told them I didn't want it. Other people in the building use it, so my protest means nothing. I started using Photoshop in 2001 (I think). I've been using GIMP since 2006 or 07. There is no result someone can achieve with PS that I cannot achieve in GIMP. The tools/method may not be identical, but no one in the building knows I use GIMP unless they walk up behind me while I'm using it. To avoid confusion, I just refer to GIMP as Photoshop because it always starts a conversation I don't care to have. I don't understand why people care what other people like/use.

The latest version is pretty good.

Attached: file.png (1600x1170, 221K)

>developed by fucking smelly neckbeards who do not listen to actual artist input
>don't care about artist needs, just develop it without any idea what someone who actually does graphics work needs
>lazy as fuck, development crawls over literal decades while krita made insane progress in a short time

I fucking hope that pile of shit fucking vanishes for good and that the Krita guys finally stop cucking out towards Gimp and just take over its place as "PS alternative". It's ridiculous that people actually still think Gimp could be just that in any. What a pile of garbage.

Hmmm. Windows OS and the light theme. There's a chance your homma sexshal.

>Projecting this hard

Krita is meant for painters, GIMP for photo editing
Stop being a bigot

>Hates an image editor because it's not meant for painting.
>Makes fun of pizza for not being a taco.
>Thinks they made a point.

Just set it to single window mode and you're good to go.

>Stop being a bigot

Wait. Which website am I on?

>Krita is meant for painters, GIMP for photo editing
Nice meme.
Meanwhile I can do almost everything needed for photo editing in Krita, only a fuckload faster and just as much more efficient.
Funny how a painting application does a better job at photo editing functionality than the actual "photo editor" program.
It's a fucking mess and so are its developers.

Attached: 1517396565937.jpg (542x540, 142K)

You're not on Jow Forums, closet homo.

And I can do the same "almost anything" in paint.net or even GThumb

>sexuality shaming
Mind your manners or I will have to tell that to your parents.

That's no wonder since almost every free alternative is better than Gimp by now

Who said I'm closeted? Who said being homma sexshul was an insult?

We asked you to leave, uncle Pedo.

There is NO difference at a high skill level. Concept artists use photobashing, which is a lot of lasso and transformed google images with paint on top of them. Image retouchers use tablets and pen vector selections. UNIX is a stupid philosophy that unnecessary complicates and divides development into redundant software. The best linux programs, blender krita libreoffice ignore unix philosophy and make big complete sprawling tools that do everything imaginable.

>The best linux programs, blender krita libreoffice ignore unix philosophy and make big complete sprawling tools that do everything imaginable.
Aren't GIMP, Krita and Blender based mostly on plugins?

>I don't understand why people care what other people like/use.
because they are childish

You have to be 18 to visit this place, buddy

Attached: oh-u.jpg (300x168, 7K)

Stop raping me.

Actually GIMP is infinitely better per dollar than any alternative that cost more than $0.

Are there people still using that trash?

Krita is the only real open source alternative. It is better, it is better maintained and features are added faster. It is written in C++ an uses a decent toolkit such as Qt, gimp uses the gobject/glib meme that isn't even a real toolkit and requires glimp programmers to write by themselves things that krita gets for free from qt

draw a circle

>You can do 99% in GIMP that you can do with any other similar software
No CMYK support, fuck off.

>And no, proprietary software is not a valid alternative
Maybe for people like yourself, who would sooner eat the fungus off Stallman's feet than use software with beautiful, elegant, easy to understand and learn UI.

I still can't tell what half of the tools on the left do just by looking. Why can't open source developers understand the concept of good UI?

Here's what the new default theme looks like

Attached: file.png (1600x1170, 200K)

Why don't the Gimp developers ask artists for input?

Gimp is shit. Inkscape is based though.

Volkswagen is shit. SpaceX is based though.

They're too fucking stubborn and feel they don't need critique of artists

Even Blender made huge improvements over the years. Especially 2.8 will be fucking incredible.

RTFM

Attached: noCMYKSupport.jpg (1163x582, 161K)

it's shit. that's why i'm keeping photoshop 12 on my debian. fuck gimp!

I still use that one cracked 2015 release of photoshop cc. You can update it and it will stay cracked btw

make a circle with the selection tool
use stroke selection from edit menu

wow so hard, this shit is literally impossible!

I don't understand the issue.

> You can do 99% in GIMP that you can do with any other similar software

Attached: 1542449958995.png (300x333, 111K)

so they are now *daring* people to keep using their apparently intentionally shitty software?

Too bad thats a fucking plugin and not a builtin feature.

>smart objects
>non destructive editing
>vector functionality
>quick selection / refine edge
>layer styles
>good typing

>No CMYK support
posts plugin to support it
>not a built in feature
you're an idiot

>Have to download plugin so it doesn't count.

Therefore anything you have to download doesn't count.

Adobe Creative Cloud doesn't count because you have to download it first.

no it's not it's still shit
just installed to test it because of you and NO it hasn't gotten any better stop spreading fake news freetard

so /edge/. If you don't like it you don't have to use it faggot. Why shit on something that works for other people

the virgin gimp
>ignore community
>refuse to fundraise
>refuse to implement features in photoshop
>dog logo
>gnu acronym
>insist on using pointlessly different hotkeys and ways of doing things for no advantage
>nobody wants to use your program
>development abandoned
>minor ui changes after receiving an anonymous 100,000$ donation
>ends up looking like photoshop despite decades of protesting requests to look like photoshop
>still refuses to act like photoshop lol
the chad krita
>explicitly designed for community
>artists have so many needs and use cases that your program becomes extremely versatile outside of its intended purpose
>lol whatev lets keep adding more features
>say nothing but nice things about gimp while absorbing their userbase and developers
>furry waifu mascot
>successful kickstarter raises 30,000 euros and hire devs to solve lag problems with large canvases
>lets add 2d animation tools lol why not artists love it
>elegant imitations of photoshop menus and workflows that make transitioning easy (filters = adjustments)
>because you catered to artists you receive constant free marketing and publicity from krita users streaming big picarto anime tiddies on windows 10
>vectors sure why not inkscape is trash too all you need is krita my man
>posing serious competition to abandonware painttoolsai as well as photoshop and coreldraw
"how could this happen?" gimplets following unix design philosopy

Attached: cat missle.jpg (637x854, 67K)

nice shitty image you made there pleeb
did you design that with krita? photoshop?
oh wait, you're probably so incapable you likely just downloaded it, should of figured

your image is shit, but despite the crap you gave me to work with, GIMP did a pretty good job fixing it despite my shitty skills, here ya go.

Attached: 68535593.jpg (599x665, 63K)

I have to use Paint.Net for some things and Gimp for others. It's infuriating.

I think I'll just go pirate Photoshop again since Corel's Paintshop is single threaded cancer.

>2018
>a graphics program that has been in development for 47 years still doesn't have the option to draw a circle
I mean seriously wtf?

@68536172
>doesn't know how to draw a kikel
Nice try microshill

This. I tried the new version. It crashed every 10-30 minutes of use. I went back to some old version that by chance is stable on multiple PCs and OSs in my experience. Of course it worked just fine again. Why gimp developers fuck up 9 times out of ten?

>@
Are you new here?
Demonstrate how to draw a circle of any size in three mouse clicks or less using gimp.
We will all be anxiously waiting for your results.

I've modified thousands of images in gimp
never once had a need/desire to make a circle
people freaking out over one stupid feature
that can still be accomplished, albeit in a non-standard way that really isn't hard to do

literal morons

>Brush
>Round Brush (Default, icon beside Hardness field)
>Click picture

because it works just fine for me. why do people like you keep bringing it up? obviously you're too brainlet to learn how to use it and too attached to adobes teet to function without photoshop.

>I've modified thousands of images in gimp
same here and I'm able to do it very quickly with little problem.
>people freaking out over one stupid feature
that seems to be the only thing they have against it 99% of the time besides "WHY DUN IT DO PHOTOSHOP THING"

im pretty sure it was just made in morphthing.com

good job autist

Isn't krita a '' drawing software ''?

>that seems to be the only thing they have against it 99% of the time
it's true, I've seen dozens of these threads over the years, and this is literally what they bitch about all the time along with CMYK, it's just stupid.

uh-huh

Attached: yup-morphed.gif (599x665, 1.68M)

>high skill level
>which is a lot of lasso and transformed google images with paint on top of them

The absolute state.
Well, I doubt anything can match photoshop for that workflow, so it's probably worth the CC subscription for that. A drawing program like Krita would just get in the way of that top-tier Google collage """art""". Shine on Michelangelo

Too bad krita and GIMP are meant for different uses. Enjoy attempting to edit photos in krita, retard.

I use gimp because it was the first free image editor I found while looking for one ages ago and I'm not very good but gimp does what I need so I've never moved on

Attached: ymdvi3cps.png (1660x996, 722K)

Is there a real opensource alternative to ps? In terms of image editing, transforms, text etc. not drawing with tablet. Krita seems like its aimed towards digital drawing, and i look for something different.

This is missing some shit.
If it had MS Paint functionality and a few missing features from Photoshop, then I would consider this superior to everything else.
Now, it is just barebones image editing software that isn't as simple to use as point and click without extensive knowledge.
