DDG has no user signup and sets no identifying cookies. there's no effective way for it to track its users, hence no way to gather data on them, so no data to sell. the two services are simply not comparable.

It's pretty popular in the privacy community, the best one out of the bunch. Startpage is too slow, so a no go for me. Qwant doesn't offer the results I need. Searx.me or any instance of it is useless unless you run it on your own server, which I don't own. DDG isn't Google, provides decent results, and claims it protects privacy, so I'll use it igdaf about Gabriel's history.

It's not free. You get ads on it when you search for stuff (it's the old and good model of binding ads to keywords that you search on it). Duckduckgo is profitable because it doesn't buy a butt-ton of servers to store all the data, all it needs is to index websites and that's all.

English speakers say the same thing too.

Probably not "free", but at least still better than Google since it doesn't censor search results. Recently Google has started to "(((protect))) you from misinformation" - and DDG is finally usable as a search engine, so that's what did it for me.
So if DDG resells information - Google does the same. ixquick and startpage have next to unusable search results, so I'm just taking the least worst option.
I find it very funny when people complain about DDG reselling data, but continue to use Google like they don't do it either.

That will scan port 80 of every website for your search terms. Keep in mind that with 10 Kp/s you will take around 5 days to scan the internet, and you need to do so two or three times to make absolutely sure that you get all the search terms.
If you had better internet than mine you could get it done a lot faster.

Using Google to make mundane and believable searches to construct a fake persona and then searching for anything private using the wifi in a coffee shop, because anything else would make your internet traffic suspicious.

I really like my searching to be fast and I like picture searches.

To clarify I'm interested in something that will search the web and create a database for me that I can then use to search for whatever I want.

Think of it like about indexed search for desktop the database can be out of date and the updating can take a lot of time however I still can use the old DB to search for whatever I want.

I'm not interested in searching for cat pictures and getting the results after 5 days.

And I think having something on localhost will be the best solution since the browser can access it and work with it like every other website.
