Was the second half of 2017 the worst year to build a PC?

was the second half of 2017 the worst year to build a PC?
>GPUs like 3x the price
>ram incredibly expensive
>SSDs were really expensive
>JUST WAIT!!!!

With the exception of the late 90s/ early 00s where computers were completely obsolete every 6 months, yes.

yes and i avoided all of it :)

Will RAM ever get affordable again?

im still using a 1280x1024 VGA monitor with an old PS2 keyboard
why would i need to build a new computer

It's sinking in price so it's already affordable. China will be ready with their ram in the future and is about to sue the memory cartel.

>tfw gpu died mid-craze
I was left with a single monitor for a few months, since my mobo only has a single display out (HDMI)

God, I fucking hope so. My shitty rig is getting even shitter with each passing month. I really hope 2019 will be kind to me.

Probably. RAM is still somewhat expensive but GPUs have come down and SSDs are currently cheaper than they've ever been. Though it's currently not exactly a good time to build a machine with a Intel CPU, prices are sky-high and they will remain that way until mid Q2 2019. AMDs still in stock everywhere even though they now have 80+% of the European retail market but there's some danger that AMD CPUs will get a price-hike. Intel's got i3's competing against R5's and i5's competing against R7's.

its kinda affordable now

next year the chinese will flood the market with cheap ram

SSDs are also projected to fall greatly in price through q1 2019

I think it may have been worse to be honest. It wasn't outrageously expensive at the time, it was just fast moving.
This was probably the first time to build a gaming PC, right when it got mainstream LOL.

are you fucking retarded?

Its always next year, isnt it

Is this graphics card even a new chipset?

There was an offer here lately. 16gb ddr4-3000 kit (I think Patriot) for 75€.

Often you can get them for around 100€.

I think prices under 100€ will be the norm soon. RAM prices should drop significantly 2019 according to various sources.

>tfw got 16gb DDR3 1866 for 64€
At that time I was thinking about building a new PC with a 6700k just becuase DDR4 was even cheaper.
Now it's still x3 here. You can find 145€ kits here. But whatever, DDR5 is around the corner, I will just wait two years.

>tfw bought 8gb ddr3 for 69€ in late 2015
>it's still the same price
hoping for some black friday/ cyber monday deals, 8gb isnt enough anymore

>mfw my GPU died right before the prices really went up
I got an RX 480 8GB for $150

>buy 3200mhz ram last year because i thought the price was going even further up

>>GPUs like 3x the price
GPUs went down in price compared to Q1 or last year.

>>SSDs were really expensive
No? They have been steadily decreasing.

no, 1989 was

Yes

Although now is the BEST time to build a gaming pc

>GPU prices dropped like a rock
>SSDs cheaper than ever
>Tons of good cpus at competitive prices

>2018
>still falling for the custom built PC meme

Yes. I had to shell out $250 for an r9 290x 4GB. And that was one of the cheaper ones at the time.

A 2600 is 160 it's glorious.

Yep I sold mine for a 60+% loss spent like $2k and barely got 800 back
Have a 2700x with good cl14 3200 ram and 1080 but my 1600x v56 build devalued so quickly oh well least mates got a bargain.
400aud on the 2nd set of ram alone over 1400aud on gpus
At least the CPUs and mobos where dirt cheap but coming from a time when 32gb of Ddr4 ram was like 200aud and high end gpus used to be 600usd or less I am not building a new pc for a fucking long time

Tfw i built a pc in december

depends what you where buying.

like MMO-champion has a PC build guide that lots of people follow

it was recommend 7600k at start of 2017

at end of 2017? or was it early this year you could get a 8350k that's exactly the same as 7600k for like 150$ less.

so if you where just buying a CPU/mobo/ram buying in that time was kinda shit because it was pre ryzen.

but if you got a GPU after then that obviously sucked.

microcenter has 2600x for 169.99 and -$30 for mobo bundle. Gonna go get that.

Now is the time to start my new build finally. 3570k to 2600x should be a good upgrade.

this was worse than ever despite components actually working now...
wait i have no opinion
