advertisers

He wants that SFW boards on "4channel" so that advertisers will actually buy adspace.

will Jow Forums be the same?

I wonder how advertisers feel about a frog in a tuxedo saying "fuck niggers"

> Jow Forums is NSFW but /lgbt/ isn't
They're two sides of the same coin

So does that mean we can have our loli board now?

Attached: 1521289655023.jpg (1201x1185, 437K)

I wouldn't say that's a loli

It's retarded because anyone who's as into internet as to be browsing Jow Forums probably uses adblockers anyways.
Kinda fucked situation for Jow Forums.org since there's no incentive to buy Jow Forums pass, either.

everything will be fine. there is no need to overwork yourselves.

No

Sadly, yes.
You have to go to /trash/ for the porn.

i don't think so

he's started to move the actual threads to 4channel now. /sp/'s already over, the rest will shortly follow.

And Jow Forums pass doesn't even fucking work properly

Attached: file.png (1424x445, 29K)

>paying to post

it was $20 and it allowed me to bypass the ever-increasing hell that is captcha

any userscripts are also completely fucked by this

Jow Forums is intensely buttbothered by this for some reason

works on my machine

Jow Forums isn't bothered at all - they're staying in the old domain and nothing is breaking for them
Every other board is pissed off at the moment because half their shit is broke

on /sp/? Jow Forums hasn't migrated yet
creating threads works properly, but replying within a thread does not

why are people having such a hard time understanding this

Attached: Screenshot_2018-11-20 4chan.png (1000x427, 82K)

This could work out well if it goes according to plan. Plenty of things could go wrong though.

I guess Hiro never hits, huh?

that isn't how domain names work

Yep, just tested.

Also this: They're connected to the same DBs.

i have never mentioned anything related to domain names

asynchronous javascript callbacks or some shit

honestly '4channel' sounds dumb as fuck, hiroshima shouldve just made it '4ch'

Most advertising and payment companies including PayPal and Stripe have Jow Forums blocked because it breaks their ToS (no porn, no racism, no illegal shit, etc). What Hiro is doing is moving the "SFW" boards to a new domain (4channel.org) that isn't blacklisted by these companies so he can earn money.
Right now you can access to blue boards through Jow Forums.org and 4channel.org, but in the future only the 4channel.org domain will work. Red boards will keep the old domain but will not be listed in the front page.

Think of the split in a similar way as what e-hentai and ex-hentai do. Both share most of the content, but ex-hentai has extra material that you can't see some tags on e-hentai. The same thing happens with Jow Forums and 4channel. You can see blue boards on Jow Forums, but you can't see red boards on 4channel.

A lot of retards are making a scandal because they believe Hiro, the mods and the janitors will make these boards advertiser-friendly by deleting and banning any rule breaking post. What they don't understand is that the mods and janitors are the same lazy fucks as before the split and that shitposters don't care about the rules.

Ad companies probably will block the new domain too since the site and the userbase are essentially the same as before.

Attached: 1512516451687.jpg (1000x1037, 155K)

Why do you tell lies on the internet?

ok, I just tried it
with a clean chrome install it kinda works - the captcha still shows up but you can hit post and it ignores the check
with a clean FF install it does not work

Fucking this. Everyone is making it seem like it's the end of Jow Forums, but in reality nothing is going to come out of it except hiroshimoot losing more money. (And that's a good thing)

I was about to say 4channel was a domain they already had but it’s was just registered on 10/29/18

kinda surprised no one was squatting on that tbqh

Some people at Jow Forums fear that the board or even the entire NSFW part of Jow Forums will be removed, either because it doesn't generate enough money for Hiro because only bad advertisers would put their ads there, or because some mainstream advertising company would threaten to abandon him if he doesn't remove the boards that break the ToS.

Although this is a possibility, we still don't know enough about the deals Hiro is making with the various advertising agencies to really worry us. In the most likely case these companies simply won't do business with the new domain because of their relationship.

Attached: 1518471716000.jpg (1280x2048, 217K)

is the pass going to work on both? because i can't deal with captcha shit

it's quite unfortunate that this websites user base seems to be self destructive. I understand website and board culture for each board but still, it's just odd to see so many uncomfortable with all this happening and trying to make things bad and intentionally spread misinformation.

I am having issues
another user claims that he isn't

but the end result will be the same so this is causing issues for zero long-term game

yeah I don't get why he thinks he won't be insta-demonetized by the googopoly but whatever

gain*

>user base seems to be self destructive
It's what makes this site so great

the real issue is that payment processors have now blocked Jow Forums
this is becoming an increasing problem on the web

It seems that the two sites are mirrored for now, but will they continue to be in the future? What happens if I drop the n-word, will the global rule now be enforced?

I just have google's domains blocked in umatrix; the captcha div doesn't load.

Jow Forums has owned both since it's inception. My whois data shows the creation date as: 2004-09-12T01:19:20Z

>no incentive to buy Jow Forums pass, either.
no captchka is incentive enough. $20 per year is pretty cheap for that convenience

didn't work for me - it loads the reply form without the captcha like it knows a pass is present but then when I hit post it tries to load the captcha saying it wasn't filled out

Disgusting, how can someone draw porn of cute innocent cartoon for little girls? It is just wrong. (r34 I guess, but still disgusting).

This. plenty of people bought the pass - it basically has funded the site for years. But now that the only way to buy the pass is through crypto numbers probably dropped way off because a ton of people just don't want to deal with that shit

I don't really blame them for not knowing what's going on. Hiro always speaks in vague terms and never informs the staff of what he is going to do until it is done. What I do see that can cause problems is that many users will post content that breaks the rules and report the new domain to the various advertising agencies to block it.

If what Hiro says is true (which I personally don't think it is) and Jow Forums has serious economic problems, an attack of this type could leave the site without an appropriate way to generate income since Stripe, the platform used to buy the passes, recently blocked the site and left the use of cryptocoins as the only payment method available.

Without those revenues Hiro could be forced to further limit the site, either by reducing the limit size of images and videos, removing some boards or in the worst case being forced to close the site.

Attached: 1516961566823.png (404x560, 310K)

i still have a few months left with my pass. hopefully they fix it by the time it runs out because i really dont feel like jumping through hoops with cryptoshit, i dont know shit about it and dont want to learn

that's pretty much my feeling on it

we seriously need some legislation targeting paypal and stripe - those assholes can kill pretty much any small business they want nowadays

i dont understand why they do this shit in the first place

liberals in San Fran

yea people don't realize how expensive it is to run a website, especially one with this much traffic and hosting. You'd think the users would be more inclined to support ad revenue and not sell their own website out but I guess from your perspective it is easy to see why they'd lash out when this Hiro guy refuses to be more open with everything going on. I guess it's just a matter of wait and see what happens.

all estimates I've seen is ~5k-7k per month
the servers and storage are relatively negligible, it's all bandwidth

Jow Forums has officially passed away.
Today is a sad day.

oh god please

Attached: 1526051739702.jpg (535x525, 64K)

No it's not, you retard.

Attached: 1473741628071.png (658x960, 529K)

According to 4stats.io and Jow Forums's main page, there are around 800k users per day and 1tb of files hosted. I don't known about hardware and bandwidth costs, but those are pretty big numbers for a site that doesn't make money.

Attached: 1514244361382.jpg (250x250, 5K)

While captcha is annoying and is getting worse I just can't wrap my mind around paying to use this rapidly degrading websight. Even Moot knew it was beyond saving.

bandwidth yes (but you can get unlimited bandwidth plans - they start around 5k)
1TB is literally nothing

i want off this ride you fucking nigger
it's been 9 years, the only way i'll ever leave is when it all goes down burning

Attached: 1512079913276.png (1000x1000, 345K)

That's a bit pricey when you take into consideration the need to keep a website paying itself to survive. Once it gets to the point were the owner needs to pay out of pocket to make ends meet is pretty much when the idea of shutting it down seems like the best thing to do.

I wonder if they get donations from wealthy individuals to help with the costs. I know there are celebrities/popular entertainers that browse /mu/ and /b/.

I don't know what to tell you. I enter my pass details, setup my settings (cookies delete on close), and everything's fine.

When did stripe stop working with them? I renewed recently (before this apparently) and didn't realize anything had changed.

from what I understand ads, captcha, and Jow Forums pass has kept the site basically breaking even
now Jow Forums pass revenue is probably almost killed because stripe are assholes

you can leave whenever you want, you just need to develop the self control needed to put it to action. you shouldn't want to take this away from everyone else just because you can't find it in yourself to find the willpower to turn away and never come back.

it's only $20 per year. I can't wrap my head around losers that can't afford that

Celebrities stopped coming to /mu/when it was overrun fa/tv/irgins

i literally am a loser and even i can afford it. im not dealing with captcha.

If being able to find endless things I'd rather spend 45 minutes of work on makes me a loser then call me Jeb Bush.

I was fine with captcha until the latest version showed up
fuck
that

yea I don't think it's cool what they or paypal are doing.

honestly I haven't really bothered with that board since about 2013-2014

you have to buy a 4channel pass faggot

I spend at least 45 minutes a day on the shitter: work smarter, not harder

who cares? does anybody even go to the homepage?

wrkz n mi mchen

what browser

is that emblem forced on pass owners or is it optional?

option - you have to go out of your way to enable it

this won't work forever

// ==UserScript==
// @name BackTo4chan
// @namespace Hiros Bullshit
// @match *://*.4channel.org/*
// @grant none
// @run-at document-start

var currentURL = window.document.location.toString();
if(currentURL.includes("4channel")) {
var newURL = currentURL.replace("4channel","Jow Forums");
window.document.location.replace(newURL);
}

shut the fuck up, for a while /b/ was the only good thing in my life, now look at the state of the whole website
i've learned that i'll always come back hoping to find fragments of what was once there
as long as the site stands there will always be hope, and i'll always be deceived , that's why it needs to go, so i can be free

clvr

Attached: Screenshot_20181120-000904.png (1080x1920, 142K)

Paying to use a sight I only still come to because of a horrible addiction I built up in high school would take all the fun out of getting paid to shit. I guess if I shit posted more it would give me a chuckle due to how fitting it is

Somewhat relate although I was never a /b/tard. It's horrible the grip this place can have on you. I feel like a bitter old man watching my childhood neighborhood go to shit when in actuality I just can't let go.

stop living in the past, cuck

he'll finally remove Jow Forums.

Attached: 1542061245740.jpg (400x400, 22K)

>When did stripe stop working with them?
A few weeks ago gab.ai, a social network similar to Twitter, was closed due to an FBI investigation because the cause of the Pittsburgh Synagogue shooter was an user of that network (in addition to frequenting Jow Forums). Some time later they were informed that Stripe was going to stop supporting them because it hosted NSFW content (although there are some rumors that they were blocked because of their relationship with the attacker and the politic opinions of their users).

Probably something similar happened with Jow Forums. Jow Forums and the porn boards caught Stripe's attention too much during the investigation and caused them to break business with Hiro and leaving the use of cryptocoins as the only remaining payment method.

Attached: 1528198273933.jpg (403x403, 33K)

How the fuck are the porn sites using credit cards? Hiro should have looked into that before splitting the god damn site

That could be why Hiro split the site. Since blue boards are "SFW" 4channel wouldn't break the ToS of PayPal, Stripe and similar companies.

Attached: 1523114775955.jpg (1200x1500, 875K)

I feel like there's a vague possibility of this happening after the fact as a sort of "See guys, it was good all along!"

Other guy here; firefox.

I can't stand payment processors acting as gatekeepers. This is the reason I won't do business with paypal anymore, and I guess I can add stripe to that list if this isn't resolved (with no concessions on behalf of the site) soon.

We'll know if the pass becomes available again, and only for blue boards.
