If I took the gamble on a CTO 1024x768 x60t, and end up librebooting it with an incompatible LCD, is it still useable with just a VGA monitor until I replace it?

bought pic related for $175, how did I do?
>i5 2450M
>8gb ddr3 ram
>256gb ssd
>no webcam
>genuine 9cell battery

Can a T420 be made fanless?

You overpaid.

by how much?

No.

Not a lot, $50 or so; then again, that depends on your location.

>We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Austria

Is it possible to get a 1920x1080 display for my T430?

Wanted to upgrade CPU (Core i5-3320M), RAM (8 GB), SSD (240 GB) and display.

Which display resolution?

1366x768

There is only one for that model, unless you count aftermarket mods.

Pretty nice deal.
I see many offers with similar specs at Ebay for over 300 $.

What the fuck parts of eBay are you looking at? You can get an X220 with a fuckin i5 for ~$100

Give me a link?
>No shipping from US or UK. I am from Italy.

Ah, nevermind, $100 prices are only for burgerstan.

Thx anyway.

where can i find a a x220 like that for $125?

Got a W530 for $219
8gb ram
i7 2.7ghz
500gb hdd no OS.
Not too bad

eBay and Craigslist if you're a burger.

>x220
>x220 tablet
Found good deals for both, but which should I go with?

Tablet comes with an IPS panel by default if that's important to you. The TN panels are dogshit.

there's none with those specs on ebay for that price

I'm fine with swapping to an IPS panel on the x220 in future anyway, are there any reasons to buy the standard x220 over the x220t other than this?

You have to bid, dumbass. You know, auctions. The shit they do on eBay.

generally better battery life and easier sourcing of parts (Go look at the prices of a 9 cell tablet battery vs a normal 9 cell)

The standard model is more durable due to not having a center swiveling hinge.

good deal dollman

even the completed auctions aren't closing at that price you fucking larper

Yeah I'm probably gonna go with the standard x220 then, that lil nigga cute. Thanks mates.

Check the fucking history, it happens. I'm no longer going to spoonfeed you if you're too fucking retarded to use eBay.

Not that guy but
>mfw I saw an i5 x220 sold for £60

Damn why can't i get a bargain like that

Attached: 75473763636363465.jpg (236x182, 8K)

Sometimes the best deal is buying one that won't turn on, and just swapping the motherboard with another one.

Do we agree that in the newer Dells are vastly superior to the current state of nupads?

I love how paranoid some sellers get claiming grade B when the unit is practically mint.

nah

Burgers always have it super cheap.

w2c the cheapest x220 battery in Europe? 9-cell or slice.

user which thinkpad do you recommend for industrial controller development? (it will run ubuntu 18.04 server with realtime linux kernel patch)

In the UK 9 cell is quite a lot cheaper.

my x220t won't even boot to bios, or will turn on, flicker the screen with green, and turn off. thinkwiki says 1/3/3/1 beeps is bad dimm or bad dimm controller, would bad ram alone cause this and is that the likely cause? (wary because this started immediately after someone picked it up by the tablet half)
also, if I were to abandon it, is there a modern laptop that's an x220-replacement (or t420 if necessary, clit mouse/repairable/durable/good keyboard, and updated cpu/screen)? I saw the x210 but lcdfans isn't responding by email, and I don't know if I have the time for manufacturing+chinese shipping anyway

Attached: tfw no.jpg (1920x1440, 282K)

Got a link or a certain site?

I've been trying to find some thinner, lighter laptops, any advice?
Currently I have the X230 and it is too bulky for me to carry daily around campus.

>tfw no x210 with a dank 1080p/3k ips screen and 2 ssds

Literally the perfect sleeper laptop to btfo macfags

What do X220 US ANSI keyboards go for in euroland? Plus where to cop one?

$170
Lenovo T440s win 10 ssd 8gb fast!
should i pull the trigger?

So I shouldnt get a thinkpad this black friday if I like windows?

how skinny and fragile you are to be complaining about a fucking X series?

>Currently I have the X230 and it is too bulky

>I have to decide between W530, T430 and T440P

I need mainly docked computer so weight doesn't matter. I'll use it for internet, music, old games and watching films.

I'd like to have 4 core i7 in the future.

Prices (I live in Poorland so converting it into $ is pointless, but okay).

T430 with i5 3320M with new lid and palmrest: $235 (888zł)
T440P with i5 4300M with new palmrest, lid, dock, trackpad and hdd caddy: $317 (1200zł)
W530 with i5 3320M: $396 (1500zł)

I already have dock and HDD caddy for 30 series.

Which one should I buy?

thinkpads don't get much lighter than this, x230 is like 1.3kg and the newest x1 carbon is 1.1kg, something like lg gram 13 is maybe fit for you? although it doesn't belong in this thread it's the lightest laptop I can think of

post ur freedumbpads

Attached: crapple shatbook librebutt muh freedumbs.jpg (3024x4032, 1.29M)

Bad ram would most likely just give you no video bt pwr and bat LEDs lighting up and beeping

Attached: beancatthinkpad.jpg (1040x780, 161K)

>X230
>too bulky

Attached: dyel.jpg (600x647, 31K)

I have p50. What can I do to make p50 more enjoyable. I already changed LCD display. How much is a docking station?

T420 vs T430
Mainly for youtube (720p60fps), music, browsing.
I really loved T60 keyboard so I wanna buy T420. Or should I go T430 and change keyboard?

Do l need a raspberry pi to libreboot my x60?

Attached: 1539048774668.png (494x676, 195K)

eyropoors have no need for ansi keyboards, we have the superior iso ones

nah man it's just a terminal command on the x60 & t60

libreboot.org/docs/install/#flashrom_lenovobios

eBay. Especially the ones that end middle of a work day. I picked up my i7 w540 for $152 shipped (typing on it now). I paid around 110 for my i7 x220.

Just depends on how patient you want to be.

>T420 vs T430
Be warned, the screen is shit in both laptops. If you want to watch videos on it you should consider the 1080p screen mod or another laptop.

>1080p ips mod in muh t420
>alienware 900p tn in muh t430

feel a lil smug every time someone in tpg bitches about stock tn

Got a panel in the mail for my X240. The stock bottom end TN panel is absolute dogshit.

Found a company in the UK that repaints and restores already good condition x220s if you ask for A grade, only catch is it's £200 for an A grade i5, 8GB, 128GB SSD model. Still worth it because it literally looks brand new, not even so much as key shine.

Attached: 1457259392826.jpg (720x480, 58K)

If you are gonna build on a server then just the newest with the better screen and battery

eGPU setup options for T400, anything not horrible?

>eGPU setup ____, anything not horrible?

no

Finna hook up a GTX 1060 mini 6GB to my x220, wish me luck bros.

Looking at the A485 for BLACKED friday, but haven't seen much fanfare for it.
Are the mobile ryzen apus no good?

>x220 with an i5
>Four hours of battery life on a fresh brand new 9-cell with zero power-savings optimizations

>T420 with the same i5 and the same 768p resolution
>Should have less battery life considering the screen is physically larger and thus requires more power to light up
>Seven hours of battery life on a fresh brand new 9-cell with zero power-savings optimizations
>And also less reprehensibly bad build quality than the x220, to boot

What did Lenovo mean by this?

Attached: thinking on a thinkpad.png (600x450, 227K)

20% off = $137 w/ free shipping. What a steal

Currently rocking a T430 with a1600x900 screen and i5-3320M, and 8gb RAM running ubuntu.

I've had it for years and it's been through a lot as my main productivity machine. The only things I've had to do to it was replace the heatsink and keyboard.

I've thought about getting an x230 so I could have a smaller machine to play around with.

>T440
>no p

This guy:
is full of himself. That's a perfect price for what you got, which is a very well specced-out X220. Good job.

Anyone with an X201s want to sell or trade?

Why would you want a laptop with pee on it?

Yes, I'm full of myself because they overpaid.

Attached: 325807829548138496.png (108x112, 12K)

The X230 is a great machine.

Of course they overpaid, its fucking garbage.

Get something that at least is still sold on lenovo.com and has a godamned warranty you cheap dipshit.

But muh classic design.

Attached: 8lnhk6fs30vy.png (108x112, 16K)

>>>/reddit/

I can do it too, faggot.

I went for the x220 because of the keyboard, no webcam, and price relative to performance. I don't think a new thinkpad would be able to compete on those fronts.

Well you can get a 6 core that hits over 4Ghz so I think price relative to performance you can do insanely better, not to mention exponentially longer battery life, lighter, and a better screen.

Does the japaneses keyboard have any downside in typing experience if you don't speak japanese? Or is it just fine?

Attached: Screenshot from 2018-11-23 17-01-14.png (1366x768, 459K)

lmfao'ing at you idiots buying 6 year old shit from ebay.

Attached: wew.png (963x899, 152K)

You'll notice that there's probably some keys that you'll miss using that you probably use regularly, and the fucking space bar is a tiny limp dick. Other than that it looks cool. I don't know why you'd ever get one if you're not at least trying to learn it or already do.

>Out of Stock.

If you can't write a basic puppeteer script to scrape for awesome laptops and add them to your cart then you don't belong on Jow Forums.

hi guys,

which 3rd party usb-c dock should I use for t470 ? I basically need one FHD HDMI, couple of usb 3.0s for external storage and keyboard and charging.
I'd also need a compatible charger recommendation. Or just any 45/65 W usb c ? I'd like to keep the lenovo one in my backpack/ready to pickup without having to unplug it from the laptop/dock.

thanks

oida, i got fhd display + adapter for my t430s from ali for ~100 euros

The number row on my T440p has given up the ghost so I'm looking for a replacement. I see a number of ebay listings like "New keyboard for ThinkPad T440p", but I know from previous times buying parts that "for" usually means it's a third party one that's compatible. I really like the key feel on this thing so I would like an OEM one.

Where/how do you guys look for reputable replacement parts?

Attached: kbd.jpg (1254x941, 75K)

>Using a chiclet dogshit keyboard
but y

It's better than a knockoff chiclet keyboard is going to be.

You sure there was nothing else in the equation?

are asus zenbooks good?

Anything over $100 for second hand hardware is brain dead stupid retard.

It's even more ironic when you learn even Japanese people just type in romaji, making dedicated kana keys worthless.
