Anyone else find it extremely stressful to buy things? So much angst. I haven't upgraded my computer since 2009. Pretty crazy huh.

probably better to consult others before buying anything or you might end up trying to jam DDR4 sticks into DDR3 slots like I did yesterday

Not really, but I regret buying every single thing right after I do it, then I spend a ton of time looking for better deals than the one I already made and feeling bad about my decisions

no, i spend too much money on shit like uber eats. i legit need to stop.

personally for me the stress comes from thinking if it'll last, or how much of a better deal i could've gotten on same quality or higher quality stuff.

I really don't want to be a computer nerd loser and do other hobbiest but I feel like im fighting against my couch potato nature. I got rid of my pc and laptop and this week has been hell wanting to build new one. I just dont know what else to do with my time

that's autistic af. Or your poor. one of the two

>personally for me the stress comes from thinking if it'll last
the biggest nightmare fuel is unboxing something and getting anxious about it being already dead

Actually, yes. I try to research everything I buy, but there's so much information and a lot of conflicts. Makes it hard to make a decision.

There's not really been much development in CPUs for the past ten years so you're not missing out on much

My mother in law uses an ancient ten year old laptop with a celeron processor and 2gb ram and it works fine for her

>Anyone else find it extremely stressful to buy things?

Yes, but only because I'm a poorfag. I spend hours debating purchases that cost $5-10

I am not rich by any means but I can easily afford to buy computer parts.

Are you autistic OP?
I used to be the exact same way until I finished university and got a job, having a constant monthly income far greater than the cost of whatever you're looking at purchasing completely removes the anxiety.

I finally upgraded my 2008 iMac this summer. But I’ve been so busy with shit recently, it’s been more convenient to do things with my iPad.

Remember that time is money, if you actually spend an hour debating a $5 purchase then you would have been better of just impulse buying it, if you value your time at more than $5 an hour

>buying another apple device
>upgrade
try again

No. My PC from 2009 has had 3 CPUs, 4 GPUs, several HDDs & SSDs, a new BD-RE drive, a new monitor, extra RAM added, and new fans. The only things that haven't changed are the motherboard and case.

>if you value your time at more than $5 an hour

I'm afraid not. Society feels my time has no value. Hence why I never get called for interviews.

which mobo and socket?

Attached: 1901707_1.jpg (600x450, 48K)

Me too. Comes with being dirt-poor I think. On the other hand, it's handy to not buy useless shit all the time. I only really spend money on things I need.

>Remember that time is money, if you actually spend an hour debating a $5 purchase then you would have been better of just impulse buying it, if you value your time at more than $5 an hour
Do you receive income for 24/7?

for me it's the opposite. i throughly enjoy buying new things because i only buy things if i can sell them for a higher price anyway

How do you not starve? Do you sell your poop?

i work as a cashier for a living.

i look for some dealz in my freetime on the internet and have my go to sources

then i do some private craigslist trading all the time

my diet consists 80% of meats except pork which gets to 3-5€ a day on food because i try to learn to not overeat. was kind of obese 2 months earlier.

user, I was joking.
>i only buy things if i can sell them for a higher price anyway
>food
You might be a bit dumb, better have yourself tested.

you can't cure dumbness user, not to mind autism, you should know that

I'm the same way despite still living with my parents and pocketing nearly of my income

you should first learn to evaluate the question if you really need that actual thing because it most likely is peanuts you're spending anyway in the longterm

I have a job and a graduate degree.

what are you doing with your free time user?

nah, I dont care. bought the new iphone xs and didnt like it, so gave it to my mate.

Of course you want to build a new pc when you don’t have one, what did you expect

I literally spent over 70% of all the money I have, including savings, on computer parts yesterday.
Hopefully I don't get in a car accident or end up in a hospital anytime soon.

It's not about a piece of check user, it's about peace of mind. You get your slice of bread as well as food for thought.

the virtual prison you will be stepping into will be much better user

this desu

I like buying 'clear winners' but they're quite rare.

Haven't bought a new mobile since the original Moto G 2013 because there hasn't been an obvious model to pick from since then.

>buy something
>suddenly start seeing a bunch of posts on Jow Forums about how [what you just bought] is bad and should be avoided

Attached: doh.jpg (607x537, 92K)

I'm already in a mental cage, it'll just be from one prison to another

this

>not searching the archive for whatever you're thinking of buying first

This (kind of) happened to me after I purchased parts for my pc back in 2013. Only thing I've upgraded since was the GPU and some additional RAM. I am still satisfied with the build going into 2019.

Asus P6T Deluxe V2 flashed to an Asus P6T WS, which stops it throttling my X5675 when it breaches TDP limits. X58 socket.

>buy 700k house no sweat
>spend months researching headphones
>buy identical headphones to the last one

one good life advice I can give you is: never buy anything you can't buy twice

still rocking an i7 4790k with gtx970 from my clueless gayming days and at this pace I'm dying with this rig

>I hate Apple because I’m an edgy contrarian

I love and hate apple. I love them for making a useable Unix system that just werks. I hate them for inspiring rabid fanboys who think a stubborn refusal to adopt a second mouse button or a delete key is an acceptable artistic choice instead of just technically incompetent.

>not searching the archive and still being uinsure

Yeah i stress myself the fuck out sometimes in attempt to squeeze every bit of info i can find on a part, but it pays off, i've sniped some incredible deal with my last build, and i have 0 doubts about my choices.
Anyway i feel like its much better than being a consumer whore...or maybe i'm just too used to being frugal.

Yea I was going to blow 800 dollars on a PC build yesterday and decided against it.
I don't really game enough to justify the cost rn. Especially since I can do all my "work" with a docked laptop.

Yup. I went to buy a laptop and set a budget price twice. Then I found out that they make the touch pads without buttons and I decided I didn't like that, so I bought the one laptop in store with the buttons. Now I find that with this one being 14 inch, that a 15.6 one would fit best on the lap, but I haven't brought myself to return it, so I might stick with this one. I've already returned the first one I bought for the upper tier version, which I felt really shitty about doing, and now in hindsight, it wasn't a great difference in hardware, I just thought that I wanted to feel like I had the best version after buying the lower one.

yes indeed. i spend hour checking if i need it and if it works and the sellers reputation and if i should get something else or not buy it at all and shit for a 4$ item
it's not worth it some times and i don't even think of buying it because of the stress and shit

me to, 9 years laptop, Im thinking on designing a miro itx case for a 4k comptuer but tech is not there, the graphic cards are not there or they are expensive as fuck

>agonize about trying to save $20 on a gadget or game
>drop $20 on a lunch without even thinking about it

Same here haven't upgraded since 2009. It's good for watching porn and and YouTube nothing else.

Mommy?

X58 IS THE GOAT CHIPSET OF ALL TIME

@OP and anyone that shares this sentiment:
It's autism. Do not dismiss it as 'just a quirk'. If you are relatively young there are things you can do to improve yourself.

don't think I'd ever do that but I'm pretty tech savvy

>2009
That is just about when hardware development plateaued as far as performance goes. You aren't going to see massive gains in intra-generation performance like you did with the 90's and early 00's. Buy the amount of CPU and video you need and sit back without a worry that you will need to upgrade it after a generation or two.

Attached: 1469290051705.png (637x1030, 411K)

yes.
I flipped out on my wife after buying a new video card. I'm about to take this keyboard back and get the one that is 30 bucks cheaper.

I too, am to poor

I don't know why it sounds so hard for others to upgrade. I like to play games on rig and I just find a few new games I want to play and upgrade to match the specs needed to run it ok.

Performance increase has certainly slowed down, at least as far as CPUs go, but anything from 2018 is going to be vastly faster than something from 2009 still. It's been a very long time, though 2009 hardware would hold out fine if you're not doing anything performance-critical.

its because youre not a consumerist douchebag
dont buy shit you dont need. i just replaced my $40 gpu with an $80 gpu and think this will be more than enough for what I need

>being a poorfag

It's called investing your money, brainlet.

I have a problem with buying things online. I double/triple check everything. Other than that no

No, most places offer returns if it's in good condition and within 30 days. Some charge for restocking but that's a small fee IMO for a "test run".

I got spoiled as fuck with Amazon Prime and didn't know there was a return limit, it's a miracle they didn't ban my account. Free 2 day shipping, just pay return shipping.

Otherwise if you keep your stuff in good condition you can sell on Ebay for maybe 70% value quickly.

The thing is, experience narrows down what you want. If you never had a mechanical keyboard for example the decision process would be hell. But if it was a hobby of yours for a few years, you'd figure out what you like and narrow down choices easily. Most of the time the difficulty is in making an "informed decision" and acquiring the necessary knowledge not the actual buying.
