No.

I actually just asked the universe to show me a sign if I was meant to install Slackware

Better stick with ubuntu basedboy

Already did that over 6 years ago.

>Slackware
Just threw up in my mouth a bit.

what's so special about it
I feel like distrohopping but I need a reason.

Way ahead of you boss.

Slackware is the anti distrohop distro. When you get settled in, distrohopping becomes so uncomfy because Slackware is the most stable distro ever made.

Attached: 1541881850180.jpg (774x1095, 675K)

Nothing. It was pointless shit 10 years ago and it's pointless shit today. Though it's curious that it's mentioned quite a bit more often here lately (at least in my subjective feeling). My guess is all the archtoddlers are out to find a new "1337 haxxor" identity to attach themselves to and Slackware is just hip enough, while not being a literally who.

>slackware
>1337 haxxor
Imagine being this much of a brainlet

that is one ugly desktop
rice your wmaker better than that you animal

>memereply.tar.gz
Extremely profound.

So which distro is ascended masterrace?

>1337 haxxor
slackware exists before debian, so no

Pulseaudio is icky. On the other hand, Slackware is a great choice to hijack into a Bedrock Linux system.

You know nothing user. I for one don't want archtoddlers to touch my distro with a thousand foot pole. They don't want to anyway, because Arch and Slackware could not be any more antithetical to each other in philosophy.
Love you too sweaty.
Literally whatever works for you.

Install gentoo

>You know nothing user.
I was writing slackbuilds before you even discovered this ebyn animeme forum, let alone fell for gahnoo+loonix meme, embryo. Much like Arch, Slack is pointless shit for any non-neet purposes.

>Archfags
>Running Slack
Slackware is the polar opposite of Arch. It's stable instead of rolling release, it expects you to install the entire base instead of being muh package count autism (in fact, muh package count autism requires putting in significantly more effort than you would otherwise,) and the community is extremely hostile towards Poeterringware, which Archfags were some of the first to embrace. Archfags would sooner run Gentoo than Slack.

Attached: 1536408016636.png (990x682, 580K)

vanilla packages
simple build script, even more simpler than arch's PKGBUILD
systemd-free
to search for installed packages, you can simply:
$ ls /var/log/packages
to find out what files installed by a package:
$ cat /var/log/packages/pkgtools*

See They're similar in their real world pointlessness.

Go to bed gramps.
>Archfags would sooner run Gentoo than Slack.
That's wrong because if they were intelligent enough to install Gentoo in the first place, they would have already done so.
Everyone who talks about "muh real world use" is a basement dweller who doesn't realize that there are other fields besides CS, and that msot people don't do much with their computers except browse facebook and watch porn. Do whatever works for you.

Attached: boom.jpg (250x229, 8K)

>but most people just use facebook
>that makes my autismware distro useful
What did you even want to say, Patrick?

I just got an X200 tablet and I’m installing slackware on it as i type this.

>people concerned with practicality instead of ideology and fluff are basement dwellers
nice gymnastics

If you weren't a LARPer you would understand that Linux is a kernel, and it doesn't matter what distro you use past personal preference. Slackware fills a niche nothing else can by doing what Debian set out to do and failed, and doing it well. You couldn't pay me to use any other distro on my personal machine. I'd use NetBSD before I used Ubuntu because it ultimately does the same thing, by offering an ultra stable environment that never breaks and runs on anything.

> fell for gahnoo+loonix meme
And you're running what? Windows?

Botnet using boomer detected

>Come back when you actually know something about Slackware.
Babby, I was running Patrick's slowpoke shitfest on a dozen machines back in the day when HAL was the latest greatest thing to finally bring us the year of loonix desktop and most people here knew why "KDE4.0 != KDE4". I really couldn't give two shits why some literal toddler, who desperately tries to be a special boy with special distro toy among Archtoddlers on an anime forum, thinks this "auldfag" garbage is great. I'm just telling you how it is, because I've used and admined Linux machines for a living for 15 years. Slackware is pointless. There are literally 0 use cases that aren't covered better by another distro. The only reason to use it is nostalgia or curiosity. Or in your case terminal autism. Now fuck off and neck yourself.

>Slackware fills a niche
It doesn't fill any niche. It's on feature parity with any half-baked LFS abortion any local neckbeard can muster up over a weekend.
>You couldn't pay me
Indeed and that's why nobody does.
>I'd use NetBSD before I used Ubuntu
Nobody cares what you use to watch your chinese cartoons, fatty, the only measure of a distro's worth is advantages it brings to real world professional use cases.

As of 15.0, users will be given a choice of using Pulse or Alsa. -current users already have this choice.

Patrick go home

>It's on feature parity with any half-baked LFS abortion any local neckbeard can muster up over a weekend.
What you described is antithetical to a stable distro, which is something slackware strives to provide.
>Indeed and that's why nobody does.
I'll guarantee you I make more a year than you do. Also, the fact you only talk about finances and the job market in your posts shows a hefty level of insecurity and attempted self validation. Grow up please.
>Nobody cares what you use to watch your chinese cartoons, fatty, the only measure of a distro's worth is advantages it brings to real world professional use cases.
Nobody's using Linux in the professional world except for servers and datacenters. Technology is only good for hobbyists, and CS grads. Trying to gague it on it's real world uses is stupid.
Patrick is a hippie, he'd never post here.

Attached: gentoo.jpg (640x480, 61K)

Don't feed him. He pops up in distro threads and is very anti Slackware. Over the last week or so Slackware has seen more interest on Jow Forums which is a good thing. Just ignore people like him, it's classic attention-seeking.

Indeed, my distrohopping has ground to a halt now. All my machines now run it.

Good point. I knew his tone sounded familiar. Thanks for the PSA user.

Attached: big.jpg (365x365, 32K)

>What you described is antithetical to a stable distro
How? It's literally what Slackware is. Just a "grug no like new things" static vanilla distro with no unique features, qol or particularly good community that Patrick updates once in a blue moon.
>I'll guarantee you I make more a year than you do
>the fact you only talk about finances and the job market shows a hefty level of insecurity
Kek, I was talking about distros' real world use, not mine or your finances or job market. But it's nice to see I've hit bullseye, seething neeteroni.
>Trying to gauge technology on it's real world uses is stupid.
That's literally the only thing that matters in tech, you delusional tard. I really fucking rest my case here: Slackware is perfect for terminal imbeciles who don't even understand the basic purpose of technology at large.
>samefagging this poorly
Upvoted.

Truth. Fuck Debian though.

Debian is cool. And definitely not pretentious, either. It's a thinking man's distro that not only just werks but provides great tools and documentation for just about every use case imaginable - without the downsides. Maybe it isn't your favorite, but Debian is tried and true, so for that reason I rank it amongst other advanced distros.

I don't think Debian belongs there. As much as I love[d] it, it probably belongs in another box which isn't in that list. Maybe along with Cent in another category.

Why?

>Debian is cool. And definitely not pretentious, either.
Use Devuan. Fuck SystemD.
> It's a thinking man's distro that not only just werks but provides great tools and documentation for just about every use case imaginable
The package manager is dogshit and can easily break your entire system for no reason. There's absolutely no reason this should ever happen in the current year.
This goes for everything using apt.

My only wish is that OpenBSD had better performance on my old ThinkPad. :(

I feel sorry for the guy in the suit. I mean, Ubuntu is good for an "it just werks" yet trendy distro. I have no bad feelings towards it.

desu, this has never happened to me. Can you post some bug reports? Or explain why this would be so?

>Fuck SystemD.

This was the main reason I left Debian.

Try NetBSD.
I've never had it NOT happen. I used Debian for years and it was like pulling teeth. Muh broken packages.

Ahh! Now that's what I call a distro.

>making excuses for a dogshit package manager
xbps and other decent package managers never have this problem.

The only thing I don't like about the distro is that qutebrowser took over 3 hours to install and it didn't even finish before computer overheated and turned itself off.

>blaming tools for your own incompetence
>XBPS
HAHAHAHAHAHA

Ur mum ghey, install arch.

Attached: here's Arch!.jpg (1100x618, 257K)

Not an argument. No BSD has this problem, and the only package manager that's as close to being as bad as apt is pacman. Debainiggers keep crying.

>not an argument
>me saying it's bad is an argument
The absolute state of you.

This, fucking retard doesn't know the other distros just put icons all over the place

Both apt and pacman works perfectly fine. Never had any problems with either of them. You sound like a legit retard.

Pajeet tier is all windows, Linux mint and Manjaro. the suit man is for fedora, and ubuntu. Neet shit like Slackware and Gentoo / Source Mage for young Sheldon. RHEL, CentOS and Debian on the thinking old man. Fixed.

I am having issues playing flash video on slackware. When trying to play videos it suggests downloading it or opening it in a video player.

Yes, it's porn.

Use Chromium.

I use furryfucks and it's just fine.
Make sure you have all the updates form patches so that you have the latest firefox offered installed.

Bit of a noob about this but is
slackpkg update
slackpkg install-new
slackpkg upgrade-all
the way to do it? If so, I did that and no change.

I also copied libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla/plugins
It is also in /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins

Is there something I am doing wrong?

>no Void under the old man
gas yourself

I really liked it because it didn't change much and I liked feeling like I had control over my packages. After I started working though I stopped caring about the more manual distros. Probably still okay though if you don't mind that.

I haven't kept up with Arch in years. I remember the developers kept changing things to make it less convenient. Got rid of the ncurses based installation, neutered rc.conf which everyone praised them for and then said "Well it was never any good anyway), and... I can't remember the last big thing to make Arch more of a pain to use was that I know of, that might've been it. Basically what I'm asking is how have the developers further fucked up Arch to appeal to the kids who like inconvenient systems?

Same here.
Lenovo T61 with T9300cpu and SSD
>28 hours to compile and and build chromium-browser

Am I doing it right?

>Poeterringware
Isn't Slackware a pulse audio distro nowadays?

It was temporarily because of an engineering issue, but it's not anymore.

INSTALL CRUX

You guys itt realize it's literally one autist's compsci project run amock, right? All of the arguments for it so far would be better attributed to Debian Stable.

Not updated means unpatched vulnerabilities. Enjoy getting owned

I should really start smoking a pipe

>unpatched vulnerabilities
Because everything has vulnerabilities. If they fix the vulnerabilities, do you think it will automatically spawn more vulnerabilities over time? I really don't get this mindset.

>Not updated means unpatched vulnerabilities. Enjoy getting owned
There are regular security patches available through slackpkg, and an appropriate mailing list to warn users to run the update tool.

t. compromised

Why should I switch when debian just werks and has the larges selection of very stable packages.

I mean this unironically, I see slackware lauded as better than debian but I'm not sure what is supposed to make it that way

Attached: images(5).png (195x258, 5K)

>debian

lol

>this could be a sincere post
I fucking hate nu/g/ and braindead preteens.

i use freebsd like a man. fuck off commies

debian buster is a huge disappointment

It's not even feature frozen yet. What the fuck are you talking about, retard?

>freebsd
>man
>not openbsd or netbsd
pussy

>t. compromised
t. guy who doesn't know how to use t. correctly

openbsd is for people that read zerohedge unironically. netbsd is just unpleasant.

the debian derivatives have been building off Testing for years and years. Buster sucks, likely a reflection of the exodus of developers that debian alienated with systemd and hard leftist politics

HIM dont use PGP signatures
be carefull with updates

You shouldn't need to use flash to watch porn. The site is most likely falling back to the flash player because you lack a way to properly play the file. To fix this, install ffmpeg with support to x264 or whatever it is you're lacking. That should fix it.
