Sounds fake, Broadwell went up to 12C with the ringbus but that's Broadwell, not Skylake which is higher IPC and has different cache layout, which can go up to much higher frequencies so maybe the ringbus is already saturated at 8C

Anyway as said, bing bus can go to 10cores in a single ring. Ivybridge also had a triple twisted ringbus that was pretty good for 15cores. Comic lake is probably just another skylake +2+2+2 cores. Its multiring busses with buffer stops that are the problem.

That is entirely contingent on Zen 2 having 8c CCXs and not 2*4c designs, which is hoped and broadly assumed but not actually verified yet. 8c CCX designs will also presumably have higher inter-core latency floors (outside SMT intra-core ping-pong) and potentially more visible lack of intra-CCX latency uniformity. There is also a good chance that the discrete/non-integrated memory controller will hurt DRAM latencies to a measurable extent, though the (again, presumed) 32 MB L3 per compute die should markedly improve hit rates on moderate-size working sets compared to the current 8 MB local pools.

Not at all. Infinity Fabric's design and pipelines themselves were reworked thoroughly. Latency improvements will be even if it's 2+2 or 3+3.

Do you even know how Zen/IF do coherence? They keep a probe filter table/home agent colocated with the memory controller. If Zen 2 keeps the table with the memory controller and uses 4c CCXs, that means that intra-die inter-CCX requests will either need to make 2 cross-substrate hops or that there will be secondary probe filters on the compute dies, slowing regular inter-die cache fills. 8c CCXs is the only design that allows any intra-die fills to occur without going through a home agent of some sort.
Amusingly enough, that's what Inturd's R&D actually truly and absolutely unironically believe in, because it's these exacts security holes which allowed for game devs to essentially cheat and obtain much higher performance on Inturd poocessors than the AMD equivalents, for almost a decade. Now these free loopholes are being "patched" (closed) out and thus everything returns to the way it ACTUALLY SHOULD'VE BEEN FOR THE START, which is - parity with AMD at the very least and a loss to AMD at the worst. Meanwhile, AMD didn't cheat jack shit even once with their designs, even if FX was utter shit.
