I need a rec on something in the same ballpark as the M50s in terms of quality and price, but notably more durable.

I'm not super picky or anal about my sound quality, but I do appreciate it.
I've been through a couple of M50s now, and while I don't treat them poorly and have had them for a reasonable time, the plastic body on my current pair has cracked.

Anybody know of anything with a metal body or stronger quality build around that?

You fixed nothing, they sound worse out of box. You have to eq them to sound as good as hd600, and then have fun switching eq profiles all the time if you own speakers too.
At least 6xx are cheaper, you have to be retarded to overpay for inferior product just to eq it.

In 2006 I bought Sennheiser HD-555 headphones for $110.00. They're the best headphones I've ever owned.

In 2014 they finally died, and I replaced them with the Audio-Technica ATH-M50.

While the Audio-Technica's sounded great, and even possible better, than the Sennheiser HD-555's at some points, I still missed them.

The time has come for a new pair of headphones again. I want to switch back to Sennheiser due to the on-par, if not superior sound quality as the Audio-Technica's, and also the comfort of the full over ear experience that Sennheiser provides. Do they have a go-to that is as economical and high quality as the HD-555's were back in the day?

Not that much. 6xx are pretty considerably cheaper so if you are happy with them, just keep them. You can apply eq to get hd600 sound basically if you want.

I had Xiaomi Piston 2 from November 2014 and today one side broke. I use these earphones everyday on my bed with my laptop and sleep with them. They basically get a beating every night so when I wake up they are all wrinkled and mangled like crazy. To think they survived this kind of daily beating for 4 years for only $25 is amazing.

i did prefer the 600 for its vocals and less warm/veiled nature, but memes apart 6xx/650 aren't bad at all, the more rolled off treble make them a bit more veiled and the "more bass" feature is achieved in a way a didn't liked but i listened to them only on SS, people seems to enjoy 6xx/650 more than 600 when on tubes and my 600 on tubes did change a lot so i'm tempted to try 650 on tube, maybe they are better.

Plenty pf people has them. They are the same headphones. They are unpopular outside of eu because of jacked up price. HD600 are flat out better headphones, but if you are in eu then k702 are very good budget pick.

Something I've only seen on these IEMs is how snug the tips are on the body. I've often had issues with the silicone tips falling off of earbuds eventually, but not with these.

They're very alike, the 6XX has less upper mids and lower treble, thus making the bass seem stronger. Well that's my experience. On garbage recordings the 6XX doesn't put the flaws in your face like the 600 does. It's preference, I prefer the 600 on most music, but some music the 650/6XX just sounds better.
