Was there softwares/features in Linux 2.x which have disappeared ever since?
What do would you like to have back from the ancient times to modern Linux?
Or is everything always improvement and all old software needs to be gotten rid of?

No. Linux has literally only improved since 2.x. When I think back to 10 years ago, I'm incredibly grateful for how far we have come.
well.. what do you think of pulseaudio?
It's nice and it works.
That's not a kernel feature, but ok.
I don't like it, nor do I like the fact that there's ALSA, Pulseaudio, AND JACK. The audio stack is too convoluted, and I'll be glad when Pipewire comes in to consolidate Pulseaudio and JACK's responsibilities. Really there shouldn't be any of this extra shit in the first place, but it's a start.
good, logical interface names. eth0, eth1, wlan0, etc makes sense. It's the first ethernet interface, the second ethernet interface, and the first wireless lan interface. Easy. What the fuck is this enp0s3 shit?

I miss downloading random shitty themes from gnome-look and the Compiz spinan cueb. All Linux distros try too hard to look professional nowadays. I also semi-ironically miss the shitty "crystal tux" illustrations that were pretty much everywhere. I remember going to a cybercafe in Ecuador in 2000 and the PCs there had Windows 2000 with a Crystal Tux wallpaper.
