CPU
>CPUs less threads usually suffer lower 0.1% minimums
>Athlon 200GE - Bare minimal desktop/gaming
>R3 2200G - Light gaming(dGPU optional)
>i5 8400 - Consider IF on sale
>i5 8600k - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-9700k/8700k- If you have a $2000+ budget and pairing with a 2080 or better
>i9 9900k- Best high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform
>i9 7900x - HEDT

RAM
>Always choose at least a 2 stick kit
>8GB - Bare minimum/Light desktop use.
>16GB - Standard amount
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this
>CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal. Check "more" for true latency formula

Graphics cards
>RTX 2000 cards; cheap models usually low yield processor. Aim for factory OC versions for best performance
>use your due diligence with cheap MODELS ie MSI Armor (Mk2 is ok), Gigabyte G1/Wf, ASUS dual, and others w/ small heatsinks and low quality fans. They may be cheap, but won't get high boost clocks like better models
1080p
>RX 570/580/1060 6GB - standard 1080p 60fps+ options
1080p@144hz
>Vega 56/1070ti best value, Free/G-sync monitor highly recommended
1440p@60-75hz
>Vega/1070ti/1080/2070
1440p@100+hz
>1080ti/2080
4K
>Upscale from 1620-1800p. Or 2080Ti, but awful value
OpenCL use
>Vega 64

Storage
>Backup before using StoreMi
>Consider a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & HDD
>2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB
>M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard

Display
>Always consider FreeSync w/ AMD cards
>START YOUR BUILD WITH A MONITOR FIRST, then make a build to drive it appropriately

Retarded intel shitter

bumping real thread

>been waiting for one whole day
next time actually put in /pcbg/ or at least PC building general in the title so that people can actually find it you retarded niggermogolfaggot

Why did /pcbg/ lie about ram speed mattering for intel cpu's in games ? There is barely a difference between 2133mhz and 3600mhz. Since i already have 2133mhz why would i spend another 200 bucks on 3200mhz ram when its no difference in games.

techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i7_8700K_Coffee_Lake_Memory_Performance_Benchmark_Analysis/9.html

>mattering for intel cpu's in games
pretty sure that's about difference between something like 766Mhz and 2666, not 2000+ vs 3000+

i was told here before to get better ram when i mentioned i have 2133mhz ram and wanted to get a i7 8700k

you know we aren't really voting on every reply here, right?
probably someone who's seen it posted somewhere and took it as fucking gospel
sorry, user

If I were to buy a 120gb ssd can I put multiple linux and windows installation images on it and easily boot to them?

I just bought
2600
asrock b350 mini itx board
16gb ddr4 3200 gskill with Samsung memr
geeek a50 case
and a corsair 450w sfx psu
upgrading from
fx8350 system
16gb ddr3 ram
did I do good or did I get memed

I'm going to make another general as soon as that one gets to bump limit so stay mad :)

If I buy a 1440p screen, jsut because my current screen is so ugly that I am afraid one day it will kill my eyes. But buy a very good 4k monitor afterwards, is that bad? Should I just stick with 4k?

I have currently a 1080p very very ugly monitor and wanna use it as a second screen when I get a new one. Should I just stick with 4k? (I like to play vidya and only have a fury nitro)

Is seasonic a meme? I'm looking at their prime platinum and titanium PSUs. They have amazing reviews on most places, but shit reviews on amazon. The SSR 750TD for example has 3.5 stars on Amazon. Their 12 year warranty suggests they're built well, but a couple of reviews complain about their PSU failing.
Are they super picky because of what they're paying for these PSUs, are they retards, are they unlucky, or should I actually stay away from Seasonic? As far as I know Seasonic is the best (up there with Superflower, which are pretty expensive and difficult to find here), so I have no idea what other PSUs to look at, especially since the best offers from other companies are usually produced by Seasonic

Rate my BDSM tuckjob.

Attached: pc.jpg (1500x819, 456K)

very nice, I rate it German/10.

Did the same here except 2400mhz ram
How hot does your cpu get? Mine is constantly at 60c.

Think i fucked up my ryzen build, can't find the scews for the backplate

My mobo, CPU, and GPU were delivered to my house 4 hours ago but I'm stuck at work. I hope no one takes them!

Where do you live user? I will make sure no one takes them

>What am I looking for
Motherboard/CPU, potentially case/ram

>What do I have
Disks, overkill PSU, GTX 960, 2x8GB DDR3 ram and all the other fluff. My current case fits a mATX board and would have to be replaced if going bigger (not really fussed there, it's a cheapo case right now).

Additionally have a friend with some 32GB RDIMM sticks lying around (don't know why) so was considering a more server/workstation build.

>Budget
Probably caps around £1000 / preferably looking to spend half of that (if there's no ram / case involved).

>Use case
Main use case is software dev / systems design, likely running a couple of VMs. I have several screens and would prefer to have an extra DP on the motherboard in case I ever switch things up. I occasionally do light gaming (I have a GTX 960 and am perfectly happy with 1080p medium quality stuff -- not really a priority).

Considering going for a Ryzen 2600 / 2700 but I've yet to find something that supports the 32GB sticks. Was considering some of those older E5 Xeons but they seem to do really poorly when it comes to gaming. Thoughts?

1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington DC. If the gate is locked just climb over the fence. Thanks!

Where is AMD now??

However, I was thinking to buy a ryzen 5 2600 with 16gb ram 3GHz and use this simple setup for a while with 2tb hdd and gentoo. My budget is 500 euro so it's pretty tight for a new pc. Then I'll think about a replacement for my gfx card that for now I'll recycle an old one.
Usage, minimal gaming until a new gfx card and VMs for development.

What do you think?

Wait for zen 2

Hey /pcbg/
Looking to do a complete build for the first time in 15 years. My budget excluding monitor is around $2000 USD (a couple hundred over would be fine). My main uses will be gaming and dealing with spreadsheets and inventory. I definitely want to make sure i am covering all my bases cooling-wise. For a monitor I'm considering the Alienware AW3418 as i can get it on sale, is this a good choice?

9700k+2080 is the best you can do for that price

what would be the best motherboard option?and 2080 regular or TI?

I currently have a 6600k. How big of an upgrade would be to get a 8700k?

Gigabyte Z390 AORUS, Pro, Ultra, or Master.

Absolute newbie, I have £1000, Want it for video editing/gaming, any build advice would really help, Thanks.

4 core, 4 thread at 3.5Ghz, ~4.5Ghz if you OC'd. Against a 6 core, 12 thread at 3.7Ghz, and 4.8Ghz+ if you OC.

So ~33% more cores, ~66% more threads, and they're running ~200-400Mhz faster, even after taking OCing into account.

So it'd be a nice upgrade, but if you really need multicore performance, you'd be dumb not to consider Ryzen 2700x, if you're doing things besides gaming that just needs MORE cores.

intel or amd?

Right now? GENERALLY AMD for price/performance.

But on the higher end, Intel still makes sense due to the increased single core performance over AMD.

There are also niche users who will need the single core performance from intel for other things besides a game, but they can generally get by on AMD as well, so really intel is more of a niche use case at the moment, but not totally worthless and certainly still king under those niche scenarios. They just aren't particularly cheap for their respective multi-core performance.

Ryzen 2700X if you can't wait for the middle of next year.

2700x is dog shit for gaming

>increased single core performance over AMD.
quad core too

He's only got 1000 pounds, so he won't be able to afford a high end graphics card. May as well get the video editing done well.

>How hot does your cpu get? Mine is constantly at 60c.
Ryzen 2600 seems to idle at 35-40 C, but Speccy says it's at over 90 C. Make sure the temps are displayed correctly before you start changing the cooling.

What makes you say that? Is this one of those "i7 gets 100 fps and R7 gets 90 and therefore R7 is shit" kinda things or is it actually bad?

do i need an anti static mat and wristband to do my build or can i just freeball it

>Is this one of those "i7 gets 100 fps and R7 gets 90 and therefore R7 is shit" kinda things
yes

What happening in the middle of next year?

speccy always displays my cpu temp incorrectly. HWInfo works just fine

Ryzen 3000 series - 7nm with huge gains over the current 12nm.

So basically I've never had an ssd before and I want to buy one.
This any good?
amazon.com/XPG-SX950U-3D-NAND-Gaming-ASX950USS-240GT-C/dp/B07C67H82K
I don't know this about ssds but this one has good ratings where I live

So far so good. Should the cooler fan be by the ram?

Attached: 1207182034a.jpg (2560x1920, 1.94M)

Is a 2070 a good upgrade from the 1070?

Yes actually

Attached: o09lc5.png (550x385, 53K)

Jesus fuck, it's huge
why not just go watercooled AIO at that point?

Thanks.
I like the look.

So I'm going to build my first PC tomorrow. It will be a Win10 machine. Very excited.

Only problem: I've got tons of files and programs on my current Win7 HP PC. Will the world explode if plug in this Win7 HDD to my new Win10 PC tomorrow? Hoping things work well but not sure. Also going to install a new 1TB HDD, if that makes any difference.

I got a MSI mobo and it happens to have audio boost 3 how do I turn this shit on?

download the software via their main website

What voltage should the average i5 8600k need to hit 5 GHz? I could only run it at 1.41 V under a noctua nh d14 and when I did temps were mid 90's in prime 95

that's about right

don't forget to check for WHEA errors with HWinfo

Can I build a basic R3 rig for under $500 AU?

Should I use an avx offset? Will that help with temps under prime 95 at all? The temps very quickly shot up to mid 90's and i reverted that overclock. But i see people running at 4.8/4.9 at like 1.3~ V and I can't seem to get there.

Did I just lose the lottery?

You could but it isn't going to be very good

Should I just sell my kidney?

Attached: 1534968252995.png (512x512, 39K)

It'll be fine.

you should get a job you fucking NEET

>Should I use an avx offset

sure. if you're not going to use any programs that use avx then you can use 26.6 Prime95 or just find the code you have to put in the local.txt for the newest version to turn off AVX

Attached: 1429661603904.jpg (4500x2994, 752K)

Candace is a qt too bad about her lack of boobage :(

Is there a recommended 1440p 144hz gsync monitor or should I just focus on finding one on sale?

I don't really use AVX programs that much so an offset of 2/3 shouldn't hurt. I just see things like pic related and get sad that I didn't win the lottery. 1.28 is lower than what I need for 4.7 Ghz right now, i seem to need almost 1.3 for 4.7 and any higher clock seems to need a drastic amount more voltage.

Attached: image.png.4278c9fbda74f488865e651963cdbf12.png (1226x1249, 739K)

asus and acer both have good 1440p 144hz gsync monitors in various panel types

What kind of hard drive do I buy if I want it to last a long time and be durable? I'm using a desktop so form factor doesn't matter. It just needs to last a while.

Attached: _0.png (360x262, 190K)

SSD if you're a normal user

SSDs will last you a long time and you will know when you have to get a new one
If you can't afford that just get a western digital or seagate drive

Just don't moonwalk on a wool carpet and you should be good.

I want an ips 1ms 1440p panel, is this posssible on a 500$ budget? more importantly, where do I find one?

no such thing as 1ms ips

I already have an SSD as my boot disk. I want a large amount of storage space and a disk that'll last a decade, which is why I specifically requested hard drives.

Attached: 1542891266129.jpg (771x723, 60K)

get a larger SSD then you dumb faggot

I specifically requested the opposite.

Attached: 1517789356954.gif (650x705, 38K)

well you got me there I can't argue with trips
just go buy something there isn't a big enough difference to justify going out of your way for one thing or another

I need a computer
But best I can do is $15
Any suggestions

learn electrical engineering, hit your local scrapyard and figure out how computers work well enough to get a job in computers and then you can buy a good computer

So where's the midrange 20xx gpus?

armpit vag

Attached: armpit_vag_at_200x.png (295x294, 56K)

I need RAM advice for Asus 775 MOBAs, they're very pretentious when it comes to RAM.

What 8GB RAM should I use? Patriot, Corsair, Kingmax, Nanya?
LC5?(5-5-5-18 or 15?)
1.8v?
800mhz?
2x4GB or 4x2GB?
low profile or high? cooler or none?

What is DIMM/ECC?

Is this CP or Hank HIll's ass?

Thinking of upgrading my gpu from an r9 290 to a 2080. I have an i5 4690k. Will it bottleneck me at all?

Anyone have a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit crack?

I want it so I don't have to keep waiting at the start screen with a black background for 1 minute. Otherwise I really don't care for the forced updates.

Stood without a licensed Windows for 6 months. I don't understand the point of having one if your PC still works.

Can I use run 2400mhz ram on a xeon e5-1650 platform?

Okay. Finally got ths nerves to turn it on. No fires.

M.2 860 evo isn't recognized in the bios.
Using an MSIz730 mortar. Did i install it wrong?

Attached: 1208180108.jpg (2560x1920, 1.25M)

Literally what the fuck is the point of using any CPU other than a Pentium Gold? You like wasting money?

Attached: 184f8089-7845-483f-bde2-00bcd370d60d-AP_Obama_Smithsonian_African_American_Museum.jpg (378x326, 24K)

my vote is 8700k + 1080ti

What PSU should I get to finish this build?

Can anyone recommend a internal wifi card that can take a advantage of my fiber?

the bums will always lose

Sup /pcbg/

This is my current build. Thinking of getting a different CPU cooler. Is there one that's good for this configuration or is the R5 2600 stock cooler good enough?

Attached: current build.png (1165x630, 59K)

>CPUs less threads usually suffer lower 0.1% minimums
>i5 8600k - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
kek

Its fine if you don't overclock it

bump

also what's the advantage of modularity for a gaming build?

ALL OF YOU JUST WAIT FOR RYZEN 3

Have some goddamn faith user. 2019 is going to be a great year for upgrades. RAM and SSDs are going to get cheaper. Bogdanoffs crashed Jow Forums dreams of getting rich quick. 7nm architecture for everybody. It's gonna be great.

What is the difference between Socket 1151 and Socket 1151 v2 motherboards?

What are some cool mITX/mATX SFF or small-ish cases?
Fell for the Fractal Design meme and I think it's a very good case but I hate having such a huge system with more than half of it being empty space.
What case is that? How big is it?
