SITREP: You're tasked with providing your small church a website
OBJECTIVES: >fewer than $30/month hosting (as little as possible preferred) >your boomer pastor can add content without frustration
CONTENT: >About us >Directions >I'm New >Prayer >Connect >Media (host on youtube?)
Which avenue do you go? >freemium web-hosting service >generic church website builder >host yourself, convince church to run a server (speech skill 75)
We aren't doing your job for you. God doesn't exist. He's basically Santa for adults. Stop believing in the magic sky wizard and get on with your life.
>You're tasked with providing your small church a website This wouldn't ever happen where I live

>rent cheap VPS for $3 a month at scaleway or something >install debian stable >install nginx >install wordpress and some theme optional, but increases reliability and security >put it behind cloudflare
Jaxon Nguyen
i built a site for my church with rails and then hosted with heroku for $7/month
Jeremiah Morgan
Get a 1$/mo server with 20GB to do whatever Install some shit, secure it give pastor access with a full Bible verse for a passphrase
Alternatively, for 3$ a month you can get a webserver with a retard installer.
>host yourself, convince church to run a server(speech skill 75) do you really think that a web developer would pass the skill check against a priest who has 10 charisma and 100 speech
Isaiah Foster
man, i get that people want to advice you to use neocities and such but why would you not just use wordpress/wix? Wix must have a template for churches. Wordpress is fine too, but I would first try with wix. >fewer than $30/month hosting (as little as possible preferred) your domain will contain wix in it and and add on the top >your boomer pastor can add content without frustration he can add via markdown articles. >About us >Directions >I'm New >Prayer >Connect wix/wordpress tabs.
Just google CMS and be done with it. God bless you user.
Matthew Bailey
You got me. I guess God does exist.

>heroku Can someone please explain this meme to me? Why would you pay $7 a month for some shitty 512mb locked down container when you can just get a full VPS with 2GB ram from OVH for $3 a month and install rails on it? Is there something I'm missing?

you guys do not believe in santa but believe in carl marx. God does not exist, but societies that lived their life as if he did exist were some of the highpoints of humanity. ( talking about Christianity btw)
Wordpress would just get haxed unless it's the .com variant.
Easy deployment, autoscaling, don't have to security patch/upgrade yourself, database hosting covered etc. Sometimes $7 is worth less to people than their time
Daniel Hernandez
i do not even know the difference between .com and the other version. anyway CMS is the way to go for the task unless this guy want to do the whole think by himself.

>host a server on digital ocean >if you haven't already done so, pick up PHP and MySQL >if you don't want to learn the intricacies of HTML/CSS (inb4 triggered 'programmers') learn bootstrap can all be done with your budget, assuming you aren't paying yourself to make the site
Jordan Walker
>rent webhosting server >build some neat symfony framework >build some template sites with vue >build easy to reach webfrontend for filling the templates
>one template for each content. Just tell him how to write basic stuff with tags
easy non-existent money right there
Ian Cox
There are more Muslims in the US than in Europe.
Ryan Ward
They're 5 times the proportion in Europe, 4.9% compared to 0.9%
Blake Jenkins
actually it's not true in real numbers either 25 million in Europe and 4 million in US according to pew
Get a cheapass VPS and throw WordPress on it. Self-install everything so you know shit won't break
Carson Lopez
Santa still keeps the kids in line.
Communism is their God, not Karl Marx. Marx isn't a mythical figure, he's real just like Jesus. Both happened to be batshit insane as well. The only real difference is Jesus has had a net positive influence on those who listened to him.
