Le self taught programmer

>program for over 10 years

>still no job, or prospect of earning hourly wage
>still stuck in moms basement

I'm in the same boat user
probs gonna kms in a month

I love this thread

you still have Akari.

>be me
>first time replying/posting anything in 7 years
ikftw user.

Have you thought of:
1. Applying to a temp employment agency
2. Making a portfolio of projects that show your prowess for "40 languages"
3. Moving somewhere with a better job market

> be me
> know one language, JavaScript
> senior position
Really makes you think

you gotta be creative and find something to be passionate about, being a guru means nothing unless you use it to achieve something great.

There are autistic programming savants who spend 24hours a day on IRC answering programming questions and they will never amount to anything because of their socially crippling autism.

I'm not op but step 1 and 3 have failed me and I'm not sure they have merit, starting on step 2 with considerably fewer languages.

>le me
>le msc in CS
>get job offers, but now self employed
>68834334
still no Japanese gf or any gf in sight though

quit being such a depressed fuck OP. it's absolutely pathetic

>fluent in over 40 languages
What fucking bullshit.
Being able to write hello world does not equate to fluency.
You're probably jobless because they ask you to prove it and they find out you have no idea how pointers work because you think copying and pasting makes you "fluent."

Lower your standards, then lower em even more.
Then complete the thing and get disappointed when it sells better than you expected it to sell.

"moving somewhere" is the biggest meme ever. Not only does it require significant funds to even do that in the first place because news flash: plane tickets aren't free, rent is not free and moving is not free, but you typically need a job offer before you're legally allowed to relocate, which is usually impossible to obtain without having a work permit, which is typically impossible to obtain without having a job offer. The main exceptions are company transfers and investors/entrepreneurs.

>Jack of all trades
>Master of none

>be me
>know 1 language
>make bank
Your problem is knowing too much.

>you typically need a job offer before you're legally allowed to relocate
? Where the fuck do you live?

oi, you got a loicense for that work?

Are you a EUropoor perhaps? As in, part the yuropoor union? That explains why your view of the world is so fucked if so. Otherwise, any pairing is like that (south america to north america, north america to north america, north america to south america, south america to south america, americas to yuro, yuro to americas, americas to asia, asia to americas, non-EU no-agreements to EU and back, etc.)

I'm trying to accomplish this with Java.

what language did you start with Jow Forums? I want to jump straight into assembly but I get lost very fast while trying to learn it so I just want to use something easier before I get into it

>physics graduate
>self-taught c++ programmer
>programming for 6+ years
>one large complex tool on github (80,000+ lines)
>use Qt Creator with Git (sometimes Visual Studio)
>currently writing a renderer using Vulkan API
>quit blue collar job after 10+ years
>apply for loads of entry level software jobs
>cannot even get an interview
>all savings in US tech stocks (down 40 - 50 %)
>sleeping on a mattress in parents house
I'm so fucking pissed off

Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps and be yourself.

I started with Java for about 3 months I would say. Then I went to uni, it was Scheme first, then Java.

But seriously learn any mainstream imperative languages (Java, C#, C++, Python) that's the safe way. If you have other preferences other approaches can work too, but that would be a safe bet I would say.

I've spent the past 3 years building a companies entire back and frontend, embedded, mobile, desktop software and web dev for minimum wage
there is no escape

I tutor and mentor the college grad interns we get

>>fluent in over 40 languages
I highly fucking doubt that. I bet the most you know are basic commands. If you truly were fluent, you’d be proficient or at least have some knowledge in upper division discrete math which I highly doubt given you’re living in a basement.

If you're fluent in 40 languages and are not making at least $15/hr, you're literally not even trying.
Also I'll bet money you're liberally interpreting what you mean by "fluent" or "language" because nobody gets passably fluent that way living in their mom's basement lol

Just reading your post makes me feel like you’re way underqualified for what you’re applying for.

>Interviewer tells me they chose to fill the position with someone else because I don't have any experience in their tech stack.
>I start getting enraged and say it's the globalist SJW feminists blacklisting me and that I'll get my revenge
>Interviewer pauses, then asks me if I ever read Matt Forney's blog

long story short, I got the job

He is obviously not being serious, I can not even name 40 semi relevant languages.

I mean, you get the idea? He/she just knows quite a lot of languages.

have you tried being black?

Attached: bootcamp.jpg (1100x733, 160K)

Too similar man. I really resent my physics profs for acting so flippant with me every time I tried to talk to them about employment prospects. A couple took a defensive tone and went on the tirade about how everything is made of physics and math so "You can do anything."
My mattress is comfy tho.

Dammit user, if I had years in my mom's basement, I'd write some world-changing software. Instead I got kicked out at age 20 so I've had to work for a living and after I come home I have no motivation to do anything useful. I have all these skills but only put them to use in service of the man.

this better be a man

This is what diversity does for you

>learn a bit of programming as a hobby near end of HS
>do undergrad in 3 years for free in Eastern Europe
>130k starting

tfw only fluent in PajeetHP and make $80k a year in a low COL area

>tfw didn't learn Drupal

10/10

There is a huge disconnect between most of academia and the business world. I've worked with some professors who were incredibly intelligent and shined at their job. I've also met professors that are completely out of touch with reality like the physics prof you mentioned.

How do people even do this? If I can't shitpost Jow Forums is super boring

> program for 5 years
> make more money now than I did in previous 10 years combined
> work on shitty projects, half of which never deliver
> complain about shitty project managers
> have absentee boss who never tells me what to do
> spend half the day just coding whatever I feel like
> remind myself that my job writing crap php crud apps isn't half bad

Try doing some commercial viable work. Coming from a shitty web developer slinging shitty php/ C#/ VBscript/ whatever the fuck for $80k

You need a phd.

Fuck yeah. All these allegedly amazing programmers can't find jobs because they're too autistic to look someone in the eye during an interview. We're hiring in a smallish town in flyover country and it's difficult to find any semi-competent developers. Jobs are ripe for the picking for anyone who has half a brain and the nuts to go grab one.

List the projects that you've done. Do it, faggot.

> fluent in over 40 languages
Why would you learn 40 languages?
Do you really use at least half of them on constant basis?

Damn cut deep in the bone on that one. I feel you, I'm almost in the same spot. Stay strong brotha, you'll get trough it.

w-would you tutor me senpai

>family owns a home

You are literally privileged. You're just genetic trash though, kill yourself already, you make me sick.

do you have a degree

Attached: akarin_19.jpg (1469x1044, 204K)

Kek, this

P-pls tutor me senpai

Same, but C++, exact same salary

Plent of state colleges offer fully online tech related degrees. Doesn't even have to be a CS degree, could get an IT one then just pad your resume with coding projects like I did. If you really are fluent in 40 languages you should crush any coding class easily.

Where the actual fuck of a shithole do you live where you need a fucking license to work? Also, every job in tech will 100% pay for you to relocate, retard.

"40 languages" lmao yeah fucking right. Just because you wrote hello world in 40 languages doesn't mean you fluently know them

To me, someone who HAS been programming for a decade, it sounds like you have ADHD or some shit paired with some sort of "I'm above everyone else" mentality. Grow up already dude, you're nothing special you sound like a huge idiot. Clearly, working alone didn't get you anywhere. Try going to college. Take out loans and make some fucking connections, apply EVERY WHERE and pray someone takes a gamble on you.

Your only other option is much fucking harder: freelance. But you'll need even more connections for that. Start going to every single software related Meetup around you and make some connections.

>Moving somewhere

lmaoooo tf is wrong with white people saying shit like this?

"bro, if you don't know what you want to do with your life, then you should just pack your things and travel the world."

"Man I think you should just move somewhere you're not familiar with and just start a new life"

Maybe that's why white people are more successful?

Attached: 1538903064344.jpg (467x531, 48K)

Well if we're talking about the US, Asians are the most successful race.

And they aren't afraid to move. What's your point? You realized you're fucking dumb?

>lmaoooo

disregarded trash. please out

Attached: 1536407364675.png (478x456, 407K)

>fluent in 40 languages.

yeah, im gonna take a gamble and say you know none at all and maybe only know how to write fizz buzz in like 1 at best 2.

Attached: 1534365535945.jpg (576x768, 121K)

Read this very carefully.

You aren't special or smart. I wouldn't hire you either, not even for a helpdesk position. Grow up kiddo.
