Corelet

>AMDrones last year
>"H-Heh, he still has 4 cores. Better sell that perfectly good Intel CPU for a new Ryzen one. Y-You don't want to be a corelet! G-Games are utilizing more than 4 cores now!"
>New 7nm Ryzen 5 chips will be 8c/16t
>"W-Wow you still use 6 cores. W-What a corelet"

Ryzenfags are literally the new phonefags who feel compelled to upgrade every year. 95% of games don't use more than 4 cores and Ryzen still can't match Intel in single core.

I upgraded from an 8c/8t FX-8350 to am 8c/16t Ryzen 2700X. I have literally never bought an Intel desktop. Hell, the last Intel desktop I had at all was a Pentium 2 I got used.

256 cores is the dream setup

I really don't need them most of the time, but every time I render a scene I can utilize every single thread and every gig of ram I can get my hands on

t. Ryzen user

I have exactly 8 cores.

is ryzen bad

Depends on the use case, it's on par or slightly better than intel in most cases.

>run about 15 programs on it doing work, each of which has roughly 4 threads on average working away in the background at all times
>the vm team lets us have access to the console to monitor our servers
>somehow my tiny server is doing just fine despite all the stuff running on it constantly

Quite amazing desu. I don't even have signs of slowdowns either.

SMT is better than HT, but since its an intel CPU, i'm not missing much.

8 cores, real cores, are more than enough for MOST people.

I need more... much more.

Attached: Multicore.png (422x460, 43K)

Try using one and you will quickly learn why.
Broken audio, screen freezes, stutter, stutter everywhere.
It's not about averages, but "in the moment".
Sometimes your OS just want to do something and it steals your core and leave you waiting.

How did I use my computer 20 years ago?
Though yeah audio was quite complicated

absolute state of wintoddlers

simpler times even on Linux you'd be restricted to a very limited WM at best with 1 core without stutters

You closed many things, and even like that, windows would sometimes hiccup.

HT IS SMT you brainlet

Just like how a Mac is a PC

Lol, HT is nowhere near what AMDs SMT is though due to how intel builds it pipeline.

When hyper threading threads get loaded at the same time, the core tends to shit itself due to sharing of a lot of the hardware resources in the core.

AMDs pipeline mirrors a lot more of the components allowing the threads to mostly stay away from each other despite running on the same core.

tldr; HT is shit
For evidence, here is a stock 9700k beating a stock 8700k. The 9700k is clocked 7% faster but the 8700k has 33% more threads. Yet it still is 300 points shy of the 9700k in multicore.

Attached: 2018-12-03 21_52_24.png (400x401, 19K)

That's not the point

SMT is a generic name of technologies such as HT. AMD just chose not to name theirs Ryzen-Threading or Super-Threading

It's like saying a fruit is better than a banana

No shit, but in context when speaking about AMD and Intel and saying HT and SMT, you know what the fuck is being said, don't act retarded because it's not TECKNICALLY correct.

Satania poster is getting out of hand

ARM CPUs also uses SMT; this is not a snowflake feature unlike what you think.

I never said it was retard, again IN CONTEXT.

USE YOUR HEAD.

>only 8 cores
>in the low tier AMD CPU core range

Intel shills work around the clock since the Ryzen 3xxx specs leaked. Must be tough.

It's almost the same shit as the intel parts now, unless you're some sort of retarded triple A, 640x480 gamer.

I honestly feel bad for all of the Intel shills who don't know how to deal with the cognitive dissonance they're experiencing, but then again tying a CPU manufacturer to your identity is pretty fucking autistic

Well AMD said Zen2 is 1.25x more powerful at the same power draw.

The "leaks" claim a 3700x is going to have 12 cores and turbo up to 5Ghz

The current 2700x has 8 cores and turbos up to 4.3Ghz.

The "leak" claims both of these CPUs share the same 105w TDP.

I'm amazed AMD managed to get ~14% clockspeed increase AND adding 33% more cores when they claim 7nm is only going to offer ~25% increase in performance.

14% clockspeed bump + 33% cores blows that figure way out of the water.

Or maybe, just maybe, the leaks are total bullshit.

>He needs more than 2 cores
>He needs more than 4 Gb of ram

Attached: image.jpg (483x487, 158K)

I never said they were legit. Anyone sane could look at the chart and tell it was bullshit within seconds.
But you have to agree, ever since the leaks came out both AMD and Intel shills are in full sortie.

you're doing god's work user

You need 64 logical processors to draw a swastika.

Attached: 1536616221478.png (388x447, 10K)

I agree with the Satania poster.

>needs more than 8 cores
to analyze chess for home prep, to keep ahead of AlphaZero and Fabiano Caruana.

Call intlel I don't give a fuck

Attached: snap.png (403x719, 99K)

couldn't you do basically the same with 16?

WOAH I'm retarded of course you couldn't

Yui? More like cutie.

Why do people pay more for inferior performance?

Attached: 2700x.jpg (417x414, 65K)

If Intel spent as much on R&D as they did on shitposting and cutting corners, they might have a product worth buying in 2019. Unfortunately they didnt/

Because we do things that require single core performance not just multicore.

Like what?

Run synthetic benchmarks.

Performance increases in lithography refer purely to clockspeed, not to area improvements
14% it's quite lower than 25%, the chiplet approach makes extra cores way cheaper without even accounting for area improvements

Me specifically, i'm doing audio production which intel has lower latency and a bit better performance when using certain effects and voice layers.

I don't get you.
so is it worth giving up 10% on single core to lose 25% on multicore for the same price?

>10%

Come on, son.

Attached: 1544324160411.png (1109x3646, 376K)

Other benchmarks show different results.

not him but why is a 5ghz 8700k getting a lower score than one clocked at 3.7ghz

>he needs more than 2 threads

Since when is 8 cores even a thing, why the fuck would you need that many

And also multiple 4+ year old CPUs beating 8700ks and i9s...

>doesn't know two recent waifubaits
>what a newfag lelelelel
if he didn't know asuka or lain maybe you would have a point, but you come off as more of a faggot instead

Doing more than just gayming, sweaty.

More like doing just gayming.

>recent

To be fair, 22 is for the chipset, which usually stays behind on node. AM4 chipseta are all 55nm

it's a good feeling, the best generational leap in forever but it looks like that is going to change in a bit so time to swap then

Why do people even buy AMD?

>WEEBS
fuck off

Brainlet here:

Why more cores but similar frequency? Way too long ago I thought that processors would reach speeds of 10Ghz per core. Now I see processors with 64 fucking cores. What's up with that?

Different use cases. It's easier to slap on more equivalent cores than to make faster cores and keep them cool. Some CPU-heavy operations are easily parallelizable and therefore scale better like that.

i still use 4 cores desu

Attached: 1539811097819.png (1920x1080, 587K)

Yeah but 8 threads.

>2012 and 2017
yes, that is recent. I would not call anyone who didn't recognize generic anime bitches from the last five years a newfag, no matter how cynical or jaded I was

12 cores for the price of 8

this. The feeling when you reserve 1000 cores for a week, get them and the program is killed due to exceeding memory in the last minutes.
