I've worked in customer support. Windows 10 did a lot of fucked up shit about wifi on people's computers. It would connect to networks, but would never be able to get a working IP or let you communicate on that network. Never seen that before with 7 and 8.

sometimes it dont connect for shit if the date and time is incorrect.

also, try rebooting

Rebooting is not helping

Who says your WiFi network has DHCP? Or maybe it only whitelists WAN to specific IPs. Literally could be thousands of things wrong with your network, as well as thousands of things that is wrong with Windows.

install a linux distro them, i suggest Gentoo

>he does it FOR FREE

just don't use Windows, it's too much hassle

Yeah, sure, keep thinking that.

At this point you might as well start shilling for VPNs to me, because all of this is wrong.

>Ethernet

Literally not an argument buddy

You didn't start with one.

>install Xubuntu + upgrades on 20 different machines at school
>ethernet connection isn't available
>use wi-fi
>smooth and clean
>not a single failure or error notifications on any machine
>reboot
>wi-fi as well as anything else works as expected

lul posting from the same machine and network, just with a different OS rn

This kind of crap happens to me from time to time.

You can try resetting windows firewall to its default settings, sometimes works.

If it wasn't completely trash, I would have installed a Linux distro.

>windows 10

I honestly don't know what you're talking about. My windows 8.1 laptop used to constantly not have internet while connected to wifi. This problem was fixed when I updated to windows 10.

Did you right click on the wifi icon and select Troubleshoot? It works sometimes.

It "resets" the WiFi adapter, claims that it's fixed, but literally does nothing

Is the router accessible?

Does your ipconfig /all information on windows match your Linux's ip addr?

...

Didn't check. I'm tempted to wipe the filth out of my hard drive though.

What I fucking mean is, is the router's configuration page accessible? that would at least let you know if your router gave you an IP

It does give an IP. If I physically reconnect the wifi dongle it works for a second. Then goes back to limited internet or some shit.

If it doesn't work on the latest version on Windows it certainly won't work on a linux distro or god forbid facebook machine OS

It's a problem with your router, contact your ISP

Type ipconfig /all in Windows cmd
Type ip addr in Linux terminal
Check if the information matches.

If it matches, then try pinging each other's IP addresses while on the same network.

Try connecting to some other network too, like at a local Starbucks or something.

>contact your ISP
or use an OS that just works
wank blows is an OS for people with too much time on their hand.

Also try pinging the router/gateway.

LOONIX is hobbyist trash for neckbearded losers. Real professionals use Microsoft Windows.

Ask for genuine Microsoft software.

I thought that Jow Forums shilled against windows.

I haven't seen my computer update in over a year and I am on the latest patches.

I had a fucking Windows 7 install not be able to use my fucking ETHERNET port, let alone wifi. Ubuntu just werked. Only time in my life I used the CD in the mobo box for drivers.

God you people are retarded
Most of your windows 7 install media is going to be atleast 7 years old with the OS being close to 10 years old at this point and if your PC is any newer than that OF FUCKING COURSE Windows 7 isn't going to have Ethernet drivers. How is it suppose to have drivers for Ethernet chip sets that didn't exist yet as of the install media's making?
Your Ubuntu media and kernel was made in the last few months so its going to have no issue with drivers for a recent system. If you had a 8 year old Ubuntu CD you would run into the same issues as windows 7

Devices are partially functional with generic OS drivers, at least well made ones. It's why you can put an rtx 2080 into a fresh windows 7 machine and you can still see your desktop. All network devices should work with the OS's generic drivers, if the device is made for that os.

GNU/Linux : Just werks
NSA/Windoze : Just don't

Maybe you should go back to a more simple OS like Linux, you shouldn't try to use a non-babby OS :)

Any GPU made today still has legacy compatibility layers dating back to the IBM PC with CGA so no matter what OS or GPU the OS always has a away to use the GPU in some way to get an image. Windows 7 without a GPU driver should just be using VESA mode
NICs used to have layers like this but it was never really standardized
