What are some good IRC channels? I'm kinda done with social media. Need a new place to hang.
IRC
Bump for interest, I wanna know as well.
Been a while since I used IRC, but none the less interested my self.
almost every publicly available IRC is dead apart from the ones about very specific purposes like file sharing
Guess that means we need to start one.
There's tons of people on Jow Forums looking for an IRC, /cub/ has one I'd check out
Has discord taken over?
Similar to OP, I find most large social media to be shite.
/cyb/*
math, linux, emacs, python, haskell, bash, bitcoin, crypto(not currencies), gentoo, C, security
i wish there were more non-tech channels
probably hasnt been updated but this might help. wiki.installgentoo.com
Those are a start, but I kinda want to escape the technology channels something more general and open to all sorts of discussion.
Same here. Let’s start one?
Dunno how we'd do it, I've never attempted to make an IRC channel, doesn't one need a server?
#gentoo @ freenode
It is easy to make an irc channel. We could do it at Rizon.
>forum.rizon.net
It is pretty straightforward and we could be online almost all the time, now with IRC clients on Android and such.
Please don't let this thread die. Let's start a IRC channel. Normies won't be able to access it. They hate text.
Big buuump
Go ahead then
wont die that fast since g isnt that fast anyways. but im interested too
bumping for interest
Does anyone know if there's a magic the gathering irc somewhere? I'd like to have an online circlejerk about it with people I don't know
Bump for interest, I enjoy technical discussion but I'm sick of social media. I'm new to IRC though, what do anons recommend to get started?
Same. All of the IRC channels (active) I know are about tech and it's fucking boring.
IRC is full of mentally ill autists, especially Jow Forums and tech related IRC channels
Think there's some Matrix/Riot groups, dont know them though
>would rather chat with a bunch of autists on IRC then talk to real life friends
irc.madirc.net #elite
Bumping, really interested in an irc
join #dailyprog on rizon. fairly active community of programmers.
Bump for interest, let's make one.
The trump thread over on Jow Forums started a discord that’s pretty fun. Bunch of people pretend to have Russian accents, just trollin’ around.
bump Im interested.
>Need a new place to hang.
Go hang yourself then.
Freenode houses most all the linux channels and a lot of dev/discussion chans
Efnet sucks nowadays but I enjoy #hardware and #electronics amongst others
Espernet has #tigsource which is an indie game dev chan, and has all the tracker (like #renoise) music chans
That's about all I use
freenode #hastalavista
>cyberpunkers
yeah no thanks. my desire to hang with shy faggot lefties is 0
/join #myemptychannel
install bot to keep @
done
hi StickyDonutHoles
Ah yes, those reputable guys over at Jow Forums
>They hate text.
I'm form /lit/ and I can't spell because of a learning disapelaty.
This must be why normies think it's no big deal.
Prismdragon if you are here I just want to say you had a pretty gay furry nick
/slap Prismdragon
NoLogo slapped Prismdragon around a bit with a trout.
>*slapped with a trout
god damn I want to go back
Why are they so lefty it's miserable
On what? Freenode? Efnet? Rizon?
Probably freenode, #gentoo, #emacs, and most tech channels are there.
Freenode is pretty nice, just don't bring up politics
It seems this thread has a only few people here accustomed to IRC.
Really need a Jow Forums server if you want non-tech + tech related channels.
Some VPS providers allow IRC servers, but the problem is that they get DDoS'd because of losers who get butthurt or mad and think it's funny to ruin a good thing for everyone else.
If you can find somewhere to host the IRC server, then start with that.
#wizard @ Rizon
...
This. It's full of literal faggots
which VPS do you use?
Why the fuck would the VPS company give a fuck.
Even then, you got access to the VM, so just do it anyway
>Why the fuck would the VPS company give a fuck.
DDoS man. They have to foot the bill for the bandwidth costs to their ISP.
>which VPS do you use?
I shop around on lowendbox mostly.
I was thinking of going for a dedicated server, but I wouldn't think that the return on the investment would be beneficial.
Just have to check the Terms of Use/Acceptable Use policies.
I've found some on lowendbox that will allow IRC, around $10 a year or so, but I don't know exactly which ones off-hand.
Twitch chat of an obscure streamer playing games with older demographic.
Nice.
You're just looking in the wrong places.
What things interest you, user? There's multiple vibrant programming communities that use IRC heavily.
mas, it's been a while I've been coming here and posting some projects, trying to get some input. I also usually go to hackernews also, but I keep thinking that there must be a place where we can gather and talk shit like that. I like math, statistics, image processing, computer vision, machine learning, ai, raspberry, arduino... and I can't find a single place to post and don't feel like i'm competing. "hey fagot, you did that wrong", "your project is useless", "someone already did that"....

we're friendly, I promise. I do a lot of stuff with embedded, so if you want to shoot the shit about arduino and/or RPi, among other things, I'm around quite a bit.

Pick a channel name and I'll make it.

irc.freenode.net
#archlinux-offtopic
Great people who are similarly minded and like to talk tech.
Just don't tell them you use manjaro
I think I just joined. There are active users, but no one postin- I mean sending messages. What's up
Can people ddos you if you join an irc channel?
Which one of you was this
