Jesus, I had no idea how expensive these things had become. My mom got the 2009 model and I'm fairly certain that didn't cost much more than $600 (or about $650 once you factor in upgrading the RAM 2 GB to 4 GB a few years later).
Just wait until Apple requires those new T2 chips to install the latest Mac OS. They're going to stop the entire Hackintosh thing dead in its tracks, not to mention "non-sanctioned" repairs.

only AMD gpus. nvidia hasn't get their ass up to release drivers for 10.14 yet. so unless you want to run 10.13 you will be limited to AMD gpus. (polaris/vega is most compatible. rx 580 being apple's reference egpu)
