Retro Computing

Post your favourite Retro Computers. One of my favourites is the PowerMac G4. I have OS9 and OSX Tiger installed on it.

Behold. The most aesthetic pieces of technology in history.

I have that mouse and I haven't found out how to scroll with it yet.

Those tall speakers literally look like dildos

chad tier power button

I always forget and just use the keyboard. I usually do that anyway even when I do remember.

Get some better taste.

Some day...

GLASS'd

>cheap looking rounded plastics
>no user accessible external drive bays
>5.25'' disk drives have a proprietary bezel so you can't upgrade them or swap them out for some other standard part that might better fit your use case
>only two expansion slots
>pretends to be a workstation with a cooperative multitasking OS, no MMU or FPU and the cheapest 68000 compatibles on the market at any given time
I can still see how someone can appreciate it, but god damn the X68000 family is so fucking overrated here.

Visit WHF at 35c3.

Shit photo but i just bought a powerbook G4 back to life.

Its suprisingly usable for a 13 year old computer with ubuntu mate PPC

Last time I went on a trip I took an iBook G4 1.33 running 10.4 with me and it was pretty cozy. They can get pretty hot, though.

I've got a 1.67ghz PowerBook g4 at home with 2gb of DDR2 RAM and OS X 10.5, the very last powerpc based apple laptop.

Outta my way, plebs.

What jp computer would you suggest for said gaijin to "graduate" to? A PC-98? FM TOWNS?

Plenty of kickass nipware out there beyond cheapie /vr/ bait home computers.

It runs Unix too, in addition to being a $10M sofa.

I sort of like the PC-9801 in The 8 inch drives indicate it's so old that the average hentai game would never run on it, to vr chagrin.

Yeah, it doesn't look too bad at all.

I wouldn't mind an NEC mini supercomputer either, especially if the office lady comes packed in the crate with it.

fuck I want to get a matched peripheral set for my Octane

Gee Bill, how come your mom lets you have TWO Indys?

lcd was a mistake

My uni hosts apt mirrors off about 10 of these all in RAID kek

Nice machines. The lack of gaming capability, other than Doom and shit, at least ensures the madness pricing of crap like old ISA soundcards will not strike. No vgr effect their - he just scratched his head at an Indigo for review.

I would enjoy firing up mosaic or netscape on one to browse era websites in the archive - that sort of shit.

>vgr
>lgr, or whatever that is, I mean. meme reviews.

keyboard, box OK (but dysfunctional, lousy cooling iirc)
speakers, mouse shitty
monitor is absolute fucking lolwut i don't even

What is that round shit on the left behind the monitor?

>What is that round shit on the left behind the monitor?
Oh wait, a subwoofer? Whew, that sure was a dumb design era. has a nice design idea to it tho, that one is good. IMHO much more interesting than the aluminium later one, that one is the meh sterile appleshit design that sucks, aged poorly and is overrated as hell.

>found one at a thirft store with the fat ass clear crt for $70
It was a pretty good day

Until that clear plastic starts to turn yellow.

>using a $50,000 workstation just as a Geocities machine
>not experimenting with all kinds of ultra-expensive commercial shit like CATIA, Softimage and Flame
>not building retro-compliant websites of your own loaded with dead SGI-indigenous meme technologies like VRML
>not writing autistically portable C code with MIPSpro compilers that actually give a shit about enforcing standards unlike GCC
>not benchmarking it against a bunch of contemporary consumer shitboxes
>not roasting zoomers on GLQuake
>not fucking around and trying to find real problems to solve with the hardware to make it (and you) feel important again
not gonna lie though I'd love to set up a web archive proxy to do that as well on all of my systems

Attached: nasa.jpg (1280x960, 203K)

never noticed it happen on any of my G4 systems with that kind of plastic
the B&W G3s get kind of cloudy though

>no multihead support
absolutely fucking dropped

The greatest contribution to humanity ever made on a Cray

their MIPS systems can handle multi-card/multi-head setups since at least the Indigo2 era, probably way earlier, I've seen deskside onyxes driving 6 monitors before

think the pic is later commodity visual workstations with AGP graphics (not even the first-gen ones that were just x86 O2s) since they're running Linux

Attached: alice03.jpg (600x395, 55K)

Man, those speakers look so much like sex toys. That's pretty much the only thing I've seen with that kind of thick clear plastic construction.

I like this. Looks like the later macs. I got one from a tech sale just for the case.

I like the power button walls

That was nice and calming to watch.

I've wanted one for a long time just to have a dailyable SPARC/Solaris 10 desktop but nicely configured ones are hard to find at affordable prices. Sucks that the majority of people with the opportunity to get their hands on them only ever seem to just want to gut them for the so-so case, they're easily some of the best oldschool SysV workstations around for general-purpose use.

I wish Gateway continued to compete with Dell instead of disappearing into a distant memory , because fuck Dell's warranty

The Last Starfighter space scenes were rendered on a Cray X-MP like the one above in 1984, at a still impressive resolution of 3000x5000, by the same Shelley Lake.
