Is getting a 25inch uw a terrible mistake?

As the title says, I'm considering a UW. Thing is I'm starved for space. 25 inches is the smallest size of ultrawide available, but the thing is as high as a 19/20 incher.
Anyone tried one?

25 inch ultrawide is like 18 inches

you'd be better off with a 16:9 or 8:5 with the same width to have more real estate, unless it's the vertical space that's the issue

personally I'd use one as a second monitor in portrait mode

I have that monitor. It works well for me because it's about the right size for my table but it is pretty small.
You could easily be disappointed.

based and dollpilled

works well for me

OP here. I guess it could work with a vesa arm to bring it up a bit in height. Right now I'm torn between that or a samsung 24 inch CFG73 . I don't care about the high refresh rate but the price is low and I'm a sucker for color, or a Dell P2418h. I use my pc mostly to write and cross reference material, which why I'm considering the ultra wide.
I guess if I wasn't limited in space I would go for 27 inch 1440p and call it a day

Looks pretty good and not that short to be honest (probably a matter of scale thought, the controllers look a bit big next to it)

The actual viewable area is just under 25cm high (about 10 inches).
So if you are quite close to the monitor it's not bad.

Looks neat.

I'll mimic a kotatsu setup for my next battlestation iteration.

What exactly is your space limitation?

Post pics of your current setup. I'm a DIY desk magician.

Far right monitor is 25in ultrameme. It's fine but I'd rather have either a larger UW or just a larger normal resolution monitor. But I got it for 150 in 2016 and I can OC it to 75hz so I'm fine with it.

screen-size.info/
>width of a 25" UW is 58.4cm/23in
>A 16:9 screen with that same width would be 26.4"
And that's the problem with ultrawides really, value per cm2. For instance in this case, prices for 25"UW's and 27's are too close to each other, with the 27 you'd get not only the same width, but also increased height real estate, at nearly the same price.

desu your set up makes it look huge, mainly because off the short ass desk and small furniture\ audio equipment. in reality on a normal sized desk its gonna look pissant

get a 29 ultrawide if you can, it's the same height as a 24" 16:9

25" is to small for an ultrawide

The monitor is always straight in line with the chair, I only set it to the side because I was cleaning the window. Desk is 60cm in depth. Monitor is 27inch BenQ Ew277HDR, unfortunately not VESA compatible. I'm thinking about either going 24 inch, or UW/ 25 inch with vesa arm so I can height adjust and push it back, and also gain the space under the monitor (I have to open a lot of books Infront of me).

I like gaming, and can get a brand new AOC GP2590px for 180€
A Samsung Cfg73 for 200€
25inch UW for 150€, 29 for 199€. The thing about the 29 is that it wont fit my vision at this distance (60cm from me)

Attached: IMG_20181212_112033.jpg (4608x3456, 3.54M)

Continuing, my space limitation is that I need to have a lot of reference material / law books open between the keyboard and the monitor. Honestly if the EW277HDR was Vesa compatible I think I would just stick with it, although 1080p at 27inch is a bit too pixelated.

you know a 25" ultrawide is just a 27" 1440p with part of it cut off right?

Here's what I would do:
- see if I can move the drawer box to the left side of the table (you most likely can) and do it
- move the chair to the right side
- move carrier where your laptop is on to where your chair is in the picture
- keep your screen, move it to the right side
- use a book holder to recline your laptop into, book-style, on the left side of the big screen
- you now have two screens for multitasking without buying anything new
- if you're good with your hands, you can build the laptop recliner and a small raised place for the main screen

pic related, it's what I imagine your setup to be.
save up for when you can afford a 34" ultrawide, lawman.

Attached: 9000hours.png (1022x756, 27K)

It isn't but I get what you're trying to say.

Wow.. that's actually pretty awesome, thank you for the suggestion. At first I did have the drawers on the other side, but that ment the chair was taking up "room" space and all the cables would be on the floor mid room. This way they are all tucked away in a self contained corner where no one has any business going to, and it's easier to circulate in the room

If you were to view a 16:9 video on a 34 inch UltraWide, what size would the active screen be?
I'm debating whether I should keep my dual 24 inch setup, get a 34 inch ultrawide, or a 27/32 16:9 at 1440p.

Attached: 47b.jpg (665x574, 24K)

I guess I could try something like this but the visual clutter would be a bit top much, and I'd still have to get a VESA monitor

Attached: Atdec_VF_AT_NBC_VF_AT_NBC_Dual_Screen_1359499512000_863761.jpg (500x500, 28K)

I have 2 24"s on a dual vesa mount, and since one is dying I'm considering the options. Originally i thought about a 29" UW, but after checking the actual dimensions it has, I decided to get a 32" 16:9 instead, and keep the functioning 24" as a secondary screen

you're welcome, now get to it and post results

Don't. Get some wood, some strong L-profiles, screw that shit together, put some comfy 2700k lights underneath, and put your current shit on top. Cost - maybe 30$ if you splurge on fancy wood. Don't spend money if you don't have to.

you get black blocks left and right of the video on 16:9 content.
34" is massive though and at normal viewing distances vidya, multitasking and 21:9 movies are comfy as fuck. pic related, my shit.

Attached: peek.jpg (1280x720, 114K)

Why can't I get decent 50" monitor/TV, Jow Forums?

>you get black blocks left and right of the video on 16:9 content.
>34" is massive though and at normal viewing distances vidya, multitasking and 21:9 movies are comfy as fuck. pic related, my shit.
I know all of this, what I'm asking is if you had a 34 inch UltraWide, what size would a 16:9 image in the middle of it be?

I'm thinking about a futureproofing myself with a 27" Acer monitor at 1440 because it's USB C for like $325, but the Ultrawide 34 looks so good too, it's 1080p but at 144Hz and it costs like $430 or something. I don't know what to do.

Not really into the UW meme, but this is pretty decent.

>what I'm asking is if you had a 34 inch UltraWide, what size would a 16:9 image in the middle of it be?
Do the math in Find the height for the 34", then calculate with it for a 16:9 screen

go to sven.de/dpi and see if the res/size = ~95-99ppi

Thank you again for the suggestion user. You have a pretty sleek setup yourself. Taking effort and care into building and setting things up is a source of self accomplishment most people seem to have forgotten about

Thanks, I built it mostly from leftover kitchen surface pieces and broken IKEA shelf parts. About 1/3 of all my furniture is shit I upcycled. Not because I can't afford new stuff, I just prefer my own, nearly indestructible work.
It's usually much busier and messier during the week (as in rn).

Hint - the "secret work" is editing gay porn

No, I'm a freelancer doing graphics.
You would have to pay me 500$ / hour to edit gay porn.

Editing gay porn is a cleaner way of making money than law, trust me

I'd do a whole lot for $500 desu up to and including gay porn

>No, I'm a freelancer doing graphics

>tfw too afraid of rejection for freelance
>tfw no NEETbux in my shithole
Man I fucking hate life.

sucks to be you m-eight

>Heard that if you're going to get an ultrawide, you want a curved ultrawide
>All the curved ultrawides are 1440p and also 600bux
Are non-curved ultrawides really that bad? I just want two 4:3 monitors side-by-side but the same monitor.

Attached: 1544128024573.png (584x562, 276K)

OP here, by coincidence I just bumped into the 25inch.. this thing is ridiculous in its stand, do not buy it without seeing it in person

LG 34UC79G

That's exactly what I want but it's also 500bux. I'd get one if it came down in price a smidge. I'll keep it in mind for when I come into a bit of money.

I don't remember the exact size of my ultrawide screen, but it's definitely worth it. You can tile 2 windows and work fast. FPS games have woder field of view.
I prefer it.

400 bucks in my shithole. Where are you from?

hi, gamer scumlord here looking for advice.

Been planning an upgrade to comfortably coast at 1440p ultrawide 144hz mostly for driving sims and such, any anons out there know how achievable it is on current rigs? I plan on upgrading within the next 2 gens.

United Shithole of America.

Don't get this Monitor. The resolution/ppi is puke inducing.

are you like 5foot7??

Fuck you I use a normal desk for normal people

Attached: tenor.gif (480x270, 359K)

cant get IRL girl so starts buying dolls lol, wtf is wrong with this world

Imagine the smell of that cushion.

I'd rather get a 16:10 Dell monitor but 21:9 isn't that bad if you like having two programs side by side say, for instance, 1 browser window and a IDE/text editor or two browser windows etc... Possibilities are endless really.

Attached: screenshot 214.png (2560x1080, 891K)

he's the same size as the dolls.

It's like very small.
I'm pretty sure has a 29" not 25"

Ultrawide shines in large sizes like 32" and up, even 29" is small. Just get a normal monitor if size is important. I regret getting a 29" ultrawide.

OP here, for a long long time I've been looking at 16:10, but the only good choice is the dell u2415 and it's even more expensive here than for example the p2418d, which is 1440p. I could risk it and get a u2415 from ebay but they all seem dodgy (plus it's quite an old monitor)

quite musky my dear

I have a 29" LG UW and it's tiny because it so short. If you want one get a 29" minimum and they suck playing games unless you spend a fortune.

I wouldn't judge a monitor by the amount of information you can stuff in it. That's why I think 1920x1200 on a monitor up to 25 inches is mostly ideal. If your OS handles font rendering well then you shouldn't really bother with 1440p/4K really (anyone who disagrees with this probably has some crappy monitor with shitty sharpening settings/low res display). IMO, what makes LG's and Dells' monitors great is that they're cheap IPS monitor with fucking gorgeous colors for the price, little IPS bleed and they're also 75hz AND can switch from 2560x1080 to 1920x1080 (75hz aswell) and other resolutions.
But then like I said, I honestly think you should consider a 16:10 1920x1200 dell ultrasharp (you can get them for cheap, same price as LG's ultrawides if you actually look around). Why? simply because there's not much 21:9 content outside of movies and even then, I'd rather have like 6-8 more lines of code being displayed on my IDE/text editors when on fullscreen coupled with almost perfect 16:9 and 4:3 scaling compared to having huge black bars on both sides on 21:9.

Ok let's make this easier/simpler.
I'm looking for maximum eye confort, good or even extraordinary color quality, max 25 inch, whatever the aspect ratio. I sit 60cm / 2 ft from the monitor and at this distance my 27inch hurts/strains my eye muscles a bit from all the panning I do. Any suggestions? (This board needs a monitor general)

(cont) I game (not competitive games so high refresh rate would be a bonus but not a necessity at all)
I mostly write/read/watch videos

I'm not that guy, but still, fuck you you tall faggot.

>implying height is everything

Attached: 1541055051032.jpg (525x650, 40K)

Not him but generals usually are one of the things responsible for killing boards. We have way too many generals already.
If I were you I'd go for the Dell ultrasharp user mentioned.

You mean the u2415?

get the 27 and put one of the 24s (or both) in portrait mode.
27" 1440p and 24" 1080p have practically the same ppi.
