>the backlight cable from the motherboard to the screen breaks on macbook pro 2016 >the fault is due to the cable being too short, which get pulled and stretched when extending the screen beyond 90 degrees >fix is to buy a new screen assembly When will they learn?
>the fault is due to the cable being too short, which get pulled and stretched when extending the screen beyond 90 degrees There is no way Apple doesn't do this shit on purpose, their engineers can't be this retarded. Imagine being an engineer at Applel >Hey guys, let's make a good product >*boss comes in* No, we need to make it break easy because repair money and planned obsolescence Must be heartbreaking if you actually give a shit about doing a good job.
The iPod was the only decent thing apple ever made.

As many issues as they have had with their Macs it wouldn't surprise me if some of it was planned. The repair-ability of Apple products has certainly got worse so this would go right along with the *buy a new one* mentality.
This is bullshit. If this was the case, shutting the laptop will have more tension on the ribbon cable than it being opened beyond 90 degrees.

That depends on the hinge assembly design. If the cable were to wrap around the outside of the hinge then at full extension the distance would be less than closed. If it passes through the middle of the hinge or, worse, the inside of the hinge, then it'll see maximum stress at higher extensions.
it's proproietary fapple brand that's built into the boards.
Jeremiah Gray
with what? it's not a standard cable, there's no longer version, and i doubt apple will even sell you one
Noah Ross
Just solder your own cable on and shrink wrap around it
Ian Fisher
that's wouldn't work. its one of those incredibly thin and flat cables with rows of wire. that needs precise mechanical assemblage
Aaron Barnes
Sounds like a fun hackjob!
The cable is not made to be replaced, the display does not have a connector, it is attached directly during manufacture. So replacing it would require disassembling the display and soldering a new flex cable (which would only come salvaged from dead Macbooks) to the display, reassembling, and having the same future issue. This really needs an Apple service bulletin, but it's going to be anyone's guess whether they announce one before a class action lawsuit is filed.

Guess I better get an iPad pro instead then. At least it can bend without breaking.
