Firefox join forces with Google to destroy uBlock

As I post this, Mozillians are preparing the grounds to kill uBlock in name of "saving up memory":

old.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/aithmh/raymond_hill_creator_of_ublock_origin_ubo_and/eerce78/

I would not be surprised, the goal of the migration to a WebExtensions API was to simplify cross-browser development by providing commonly-supported methods and interfaces. Adding a different manifest works against that stated aim.

Gotta view those gillet ads goyim

Sad but not surprising. Mozilla is just Google's lapdog.

lmao it's like a prank gone too far.

Not the end of the world nigger, there are other forms of adblocking

Reading the post and it sounds based as fuck. Just like how BSD handles process privileges via promises.

Or you could just not update.

Works in the short term but in the long term sites will stop supporting your browser and you will get owned the next time an exploit is found.

You'd be unironically better off switching to Pale Meme or even w3m

wrong

What should i use instead giving that firefox is jewed?

wget

Good thing I don't browse shitty sites that force you to update your browser.

wow they truly ruin everything they touch

Welp, someone get a fork going

Welp. The time to go full Stallman is upon us.
wget + email + emacs are my browser now.

Icecat until it dies.

>Edit: I should clarify - this is my personal opinion. I do not work on addons and I do not have any special insights.

Nice non-story there bro

The way I read it:
>for "security" reasons, you must load and execute malware ridden ads.

t. brainlet

why does it matter when you are blocking content at the DNS level?

This

Read the fucking link that the dumb shit OP posted instead of assuming she is correct

It's just some random ass hat comment on Reddit, some nobody that makes no decisions whatsoever, nothing has been released saying anything of this sort according to Firefox official channels and there is no reason to believe uBO will stop working anytime in the near future

not everyone is a 1337 haxx0r like you and knows how to do that

I imagine these changes will encounter some opposition in the open source community. Because if not, we're fucked, normies don't give a shit about thing like this.

haha get off Jow Forums

Why did the Gillet ad specifically trigger so many people?

I only know how to get angry, reading stuff is for suckers

How did a schoolboy smiling trigger so many people?
People are extremely easy to trigger nowadays, probably because they stare at their phones the entire day so they have zero real world experiences.

Dude. It's over. Nobody is ever going to give a shit. Even you probably don't seriously give a shit about owning your machines versus them owning you. You cannot compete with an entire brain-dead generation raised on iShit and narcissism. They don't care how it works, only that it works.

What you should do for now is enjoy these final grand days we have.

>How did a schoolboy smiling trigger so many people?
I'm assuming because of the story that was sold with it

Because they equivocated things like fatherhood and horseplay with rape.
It's just a TV ad, but we live in a time when people get their morality from Harry Potter.

>Because they equivocated things like fatherhood and horseplay with rape.
Lmao no they don't, have you actually seen the ad?

Yes, have you watched the entire thing?

just change the user agent
no one cares whether your div animates from 0 height to auto or not

DNS blocking doesn't fix cosmetic issues, and will eventually be circumvented by forced in-browser cloudflare DNS

Yes, unfortunately. It's a weird ad and I dislike how they're riding on a social movement meant to fight against sexual harassment to sell goddamn blade cartridges or whatever, but people are getting upset over something that isn't there.

I just wanted to instll uBlock today ...
I dont know whta to do now.. do I instll it anyways ?
HELP

Oh, I suppose that if you were referring to people being upset about it for that reason, then I might agree. Anything with a hashtag is going to end up in marketing eventually. It irked me for a different reason, as stated in my earlier comment.

Absolutely nothing in that worthless reddit post supports your claim. Why is with the constant shitting on Mozilla these days? Are you the same cocksucker that shills that Brave trash?

>Why is with the constant shitting on Mozilla these days?
I don't know either, anyone with a brain already abandoned it or is living off 56 and it has the lowest presence on desktop now.
Doesn't make sense to give this much attention to some obscure crappy browser used by 10 people.

If you're on windows 7 you can find a list of most advertisers and block their IP on host file. Wouldn't that be easier?

NAT rules mofo

>Doesn't make sense to give this much attention to some obscure crappy browser used by 10 people.
Why do you hate Brave so much?

i want out of this timeline

Brave has 10 people more than Firefox using it.

What's up with the Brave shilling on here?

>tfw using ublock origin 1.13.8 and waterfox

Drink bleach and shoot yourself in the mouth, you dumb fucking shit stain.

who cares

t. too dumb to create a successful fork

STOP SHILLING BRAVE

I don't know how it works at Mozilla, but at my large corporation, our feminist coding groups do hackathons and such on the regular, but no software is ever produced from them.

Instead, they write down half-baked ideas, demo their "invention" like one might in elementary school with a power point presentation they stand and read to you, and if they sucked the correct C level clit their project gets funding and is immediately transferred to the actual developers.

No idea generated this way has been profitable yet.

but why? what's wrong with Ublock Origin?

>at my large corporation, our feminist coding groups do hackathons and such on the regular

Lol what kind of faggot company do you work for?

t. down syndromite

Not him but it's the same at microsoft.

But Apple allows adblock even on their mobile devices, it's Android that will be fucked.

but if extensions become useless on chromium they can just ignore it and become the only target browser for them

Not when they're also useless on firefox. XUL was powerful and the only way to properly implement some things. Adblocking on XUL was much more powerful than on webextensions for example, though it still works without XUL. Now though, that might not be the case anymore.

this. I guess it's because this board has gone full Jow Forums lately. I mean, I hate some of Mozilla's political views too, but their browser offers the best for my needs and since it's a technical company I appreciate their technical work and use it. also I had the chance to talk to some Mozilla employees at technical conferences in the past and they're not even all politically sided as people may think. A lot of them are just good engineers and overall chill people.

lmao no it doesn't

This. Mozilla is our friend and cares for us. Please be sure to purchase Mozilla premium to support the devERROR ERROR COMMAND LINE BROKEN UNABLE TO CONTINUE POSTING

Okay, what browser I should use now?

Firefox only wanted to invite Google to listen to them about the new standard. It was probably to prevent something like this to happen. Now just because a random security team neckbeard with no decisional power praised Google's choice on reddit it doesn't mean Firefox will follow Google when they never really responded to their invite to cooperate.

kek
seriously, why do people still suck mozilla's cock after all the shit they've pulled?

Firefox like any non Jow Forumstard. If you read the link you'll realize there's nothing official suggesting Mozilla will follow Google's footsteps.

I'm more surprised by how, on a board mostly about free software and user freedom, we still have Google dickriders

Lesser of the evils.

>she

hahahahahaha i would post a snide remark in the form of ">he doesn't know about x" but i want to spite you and not give you a hint

time for browsers to become a thing of the past and individual websites to produce their own apps

Google funds Mozilla. You're still by proxy dickriding Google.

>Edit: I should clarify - this is my personal opinion. I do not work on addons and I do not have any special insights.

/thread you fucking faggots

How far can you rationalize this until Mozilla is the same as Google? They're already heading down that path.

>Edit:
nice damage control

OP is a woman
Pay attention

this is not how it works

This

Just like to point out this bug report on Chromium where the UBO dev and several others voice their concerns:
bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=896897&desc=2#c23

Notice how the tone of the Chromium staff is extremely agressive, threatening to delete comments (and actually doing it, since they are deleted we cannot know if they were just trolls or legitimate concerns) and forcing people to discuss it on a obscure mailing list that is meant NOT to be seen by most people so they can make sure this gets the least attention possible. Typical google strategy.
Where the FUCK is this supposed to be discussed other than on the fucking issue that regards the implementation of this or the technical specification document? This is literally the purpose of bug reports and design drafts!

Also note his last post where he refers to a CoC to again implicitly threaten people who are not happy with this change. Also he pretty much confirms they are going to cripple ad blockers in the name "enhance security, privacy, and performance for all users".
Yeah, sure. This well designed, lightweight API that has never had a single security bug and only allows users greater control over their browser is getting killed because of "security, privacy, and performance". Nothing at all to do with removing used control.

I'm skeptical and have never been strongly against the SJWs infiltrating the tech world as long as they cause no direct harm. But this is a clear example on how they use the SJW CoCs and etc to silence relevant and important discussions because of political interests.

Yeah someone was saying the same on a in the (in)famous r/firefox thread. They go aggressive against any concern that's not super polite and with the benefit of doubt and try to discuss stuff on obscure mailing list or bug report that only devs see, and when someone finds this out and shares it on some news aggregator they go like this to shut them up.

People supported old fucking versions of Internet Explorer that only supported Windows XP up into the 2010s. I think you'll be fine sticking to an old version of Firefox until a solution comes along... You're really fucking dumb.

Are tech companies just glorified adult baby sitting companies?

Modern sites test exclusively on chrome and chrome breaks everything every 5 seconds to try to one-up the competition though.
The reason people maintained IE sites on XP until the 10's is basically the exact same reason, except this time in reverse (i.e. all sites stop working if you don't update the botnet).

This.
Only use Firefox to browse porn since half the pornsites break on Icecat.

>threatening to delete comments (and actually doing it, since they are deleted we cannot know if they were just trolls or legitimate concerns)
There was an archive link in another thread. The comments deleted were low quality ones that amounted to "I don't like this and I will switch browsers", which are nothing more than low quality spam when actual developers are in the thread and are complaining about specific issues that will affect the extensions that they maintain.

When was the last time SJWfox did something right?

>Brave(tm)
Look everybody I'm a cuck.

I use a scriptblocker which inherently blocks ads anyway

Weird flex but okay.

they couldn't hack their way out of a paper bag with a chainsaw

What is this block thing? What does it do

The power of Opensores.

What then? I can't imagine internet without ublock.

Maybe we will finally get a good chromium fork with vertical tabs
