Silicon valley ran on Sun/Sparcs (amazon, yahoo, netscape all ran expensive $20k dollar workstations and servers, but Sun never really got into laptops (tadpoles, rdr's were stilll $15k and huge) But here comes apple with a laptop that ran certified UNIX. Holy shit! portable UNIX is here! Linux sucked on laptops then because drivers were horrible; especially wifi drivers. Word got around how great the macbook was and the rest is history. Silicon valley was never Microsoft Territory.
