I think wechat even works on anbox. Though really with huawei adopting sailfish we should see app ports on it.

it wouldn't be that difficult porting to a new platform, beside most of the codebase is virtually unchanged

Well the only problem is with proprietary shit like whatsapp was pulling with third party developers, still works when you emulate whole android, but it's an overkill for most cases (did whatsapp finally get a web-based desktop version?)
