I look at comtuer generated waveforms from my flacs, and simply imagine in perfect vividity the exact sound that would be produced with perfect audio equipment.
Only losers would pay for what you can get for free.

Actually, I switched to Philips mcd708 speakers now. Or as i like to call them: the hiss revealers.

So far I only had hifi headphones.

What are the smallest bookshelf/tabletop speakers worth getting if I want to listen to Judas Pries at my computer desk in my rather small bedroom?

I want to get something decent with some bass present and have it as small as possible.

Thanks bros, looks super interesting. Pretty much what i was looking for.

Although this bass drop off kinda worries me, at least compared to the headphones.
Is this going to be ok without a sub? Do the miniature subs also exist?

Hard to say, haven't heard them. Bass is also precived differently with speakers than headphones as headphones just stimulates your ears while speakers also stimulates your nostrils
Sunfire makes the smallest subs that I know of. Due the laws of physics, it's hard to make something small that can play deep and loud, so you have to decide somewhat on how much you want to compromise.

Pressurewaves finds their way into your nostril, nothing weird about that if you think about it.

Yes but your nose isn't a sound detector. Bones, skin and muscles are.

Why don't you post an authoritative article specifying that the nostrils operate as acoustic receivers.

Can someone explain CD players to me. Does a $20 CD player vs a $200 CD player actually improve sound, or is it just better build quality?

Owen Cooper

false dichotomy

most people can get along with an inexpensive CD player since new technologies are better and better

if your sound system is higher end, and distinguishes differences more prominently, a CD player with a better DAC, preamp and power supply can give noticeable differences, but whether those differences are worth an extra 100 or 1000 dollars is somewhat subjective

i think most blu ray players are pretty excellent with CD music output

but for example i used to use a portable panasonic player which is relatively decent to take around with me but it had problems with jitter, error rejection, and when the battery ran down, the volume output did weird things and not good

Where is the proof that anyone can hear the diference between a 15 euro dvd player and whatever fancy shit?

the original discussion was about CD players, and presumably inexpensive portable players compared to more expensive portable or console-type players

in terms of CD vs DVD players, this post explains it pretty well:

Pioneer:
177026 Woofer
used in:
CS-J625

sometimes drivers are sold individually on ebay and this seller may still have one
ebay.com/itm/EUC-VINTAGE-PIONEER-CS-J625-REPLACEMENT-WOOFER-HARDWARE-READY-TO-INSTALL-/163192320595

or look for vintage models on craigslist/ebay
fortcollins.craigslist.org/ele/d/cheyenne-pioneer-cs-j625-floor-speakers/6914523277.html

you can also call places like madisound or partsexpress but 16 ohm woofers that size are harder to match

If the coils aren't damaged refoaming might fix them. Except if the spider is the problem.
They're probably too small (not enough weight there) for the upside down trick.

They were just part of the previous setup, and I just didn't bother to move them, so they're re-stacked to hold stuff now.
I'm not sure whether they make much difference in terms of damping. I think the foam blocks under the sub make more difference.

Xavier Allen

It's purely just for vinyl.
I do have a separate Mies phono preamp that I could use instead of the NAD's onboard, but it seems to sound fine as is.
