Want help? >State budget & CURRENCY >Post at least some attempt at a parts list >List your uses, e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work >For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photoediting, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)
CPUs based on current pricing: >Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming >R3 2200G - Light 30-60fps gaming (dGPU optional). >R5 2600 - Good 60fps+ gaming CPU; great value >R5 3600 - midrange; good for all but the absolute highest end GPUs >R7 3700X - High end, higher FPS. >R9 3900X - Gaming+Streaming/Extreme Productivity. Gaming w/ SMT on flunky due to software scheduling issues. See "more"
RAM: >Do not use a single DIMM. 2 sticks ONLY for a typical dual channel CPU >CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 3200CL16 minimum >AMD B & X chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP
GPUs based on current pricing: 1080p >RX 570/580 8GB - Can be found on sale for cheap. Look for 570s which are >1240MHz boost >GTX 1660 - higher fps / more demanding games >RX 5700 - even higher FPS 1440p >RX 5700 - 75-100fps+ in most games >RTX 2080ti - Highest possible FPS, but poor value 2160p (4K) >RTX 2070S OC - budget option. Turing performance scales better into 4K than Navi does. >2080Ti - best for 4K but expensive
>Navi launch drivers have issues, esp. w/ OC. Wait for AIB if considering the XT. 5700 blower is alright, due to low power. AIB models come mid-August.
General: >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING >Yes, adaptive sync (freesync) is important >SSD Guide (250GB+ SATA bare minimums): i.imgur.com/79MYtoE.png >NVMe isn't better than SATA SSD for gaming >"Bottleneck checker" sites don't work >Don't use Speccy >AM4 VRMs + Monitors under "more"
yes, I should have gotten a rx5700, but I would rather live with this mistake and learn how to be more careful when considering purchases in future. anything else I should change for something mainly for photoshop?
no need for a separate cooler, use the one that comes with the CPU
Joshua Cooper
Because of the useless PCIE-4 meme. NOBODY needs it.
Elijah Robinson
Just did a 3600 build but didn't get a gpu yet as I'm waiting for the aib 5700's.
Now I'm wondering whether I fucked up on the PSU, which is a 550w seasonic focus platinum.
If the aib cards are gonna be like 250-300w, would that still be fine? I know the 3600 uses less than 100w so I should be alright, or am I missing something?
Juan Reed
recommend me some decent 2x8 3200 cl 16
Xavier Brooks
Has any solution been found to the Ryzen 3700X temperature problem? It's too damn hot
Isaac Mitchell
Good, now buy a 2070S before you find out aib costs $100+ more
Xavier Scott
Fucked up buying a 10 year old PSU that can't handle high power GPUs, otherwise ok.
>comparing last gen intel to current gen amd >comparing at base clocks because intel can OC and AMD can’t >compares 9 games weighted identically even though majority are dead single player games with no longevity >doesn’t include the cost saving for intel being able to use slower ram
Direct die cooling. Remember: the actual chip that does the work in the new Ryzen is about the size of a micro SD card.
Jaxon Johnson
underclock it
Logan Young
I have a 9900K and a 3700X. The K series has way more potential for being fine tuned than the 3700X for overclocking "ramclock/timings/ringbus clocking and core speed/undervolt". I'm taking the 3800X back as it has absolutely no overclockability.
3700X? Why would you want to overclock a 3800X? Just return your 3900X, it's slower in gaming anyway!
Josiah Cooper
No 10nm desktop until at least late 2021, Poozen is still Poo. What a sad time for CPUs.
Ian Morales
I meant 3800x not 3700x
Carson Reyes
>2133 ram YEAH FAIR COMPARISON THERE
Gabriel Harris
I assume you used the same RAM, but they weren't the same clock speed in both rigs.
Dominic Clark
Good choice, the 9900k is for real workloads, the 3800x is for screenshotting your cinebench run to post on reddit.
Alexander Morgan
Nothing new here. It's the "EVGA" Logo.
Jayden Diaz
pcpartpicker.com/list/bL2B8Y Recommendations? I’m buying parts on eBay to save some money before I go back to Uni.
Samuel Collins
I wanted to get an MSI b450 board for 3rd gen ryzen, specifically the gaming pro carbon AC. Now I read that they fucked up with the BIOS. Is it safe to say they'll iron this one out or should I wait and see what happens?
Connor Perry
You can tune a 3800x plenty, you're just an idiot. Or rather, a dumb incel.
Tyler Cruz
what seems to be the problem here?
Lucas Martin
They were the same sticks, it didn't read it right because i manually set the speed and timings respectively.
Logan Baker
Decent CPU architecture doesn’t need fast ram.
Samuel Stewart
KEK
John Collins
It's the other way around, 9900k is for retarded gaymers who do no serious work, 3700x is for budget oriented people who do real work, and the 3900x is king.
Connor Perez
yeah it's great when undervolted @4.0 GHz, barely over 60 watts, perfect for my HTPC to stream Netflix and Hulu
Blake Perez
Manual overclocking actually gave worse results compared to PBO.
>You don't even install a CPU, memory or graphics card while updating. meaning don't attach anything other than a PSU, monitor and keyboard to your mobo while flashing it
Owen Diaz
Geekbench score is 20% RAM on ANY CPU.
Christopher Brown
Decent CPU architecture can make use of fast RAM.
Carson Turner
No
Nathaniel Murphy
No they're not wrong, 3733MHz isn't even in that image. Regardless it also depends on CAS
Logan Cook
People who do real work aren’t budget orientated.
Nicholas Powell
nvidiot getting jewed hard >NO REFUNDS
Brayden Murphy
I too, enjoy paying more money for inferior products.
>Hurr durr, only rich people can do "real work"
Justin Walker
Just bought an RTX 2080 for $20 cheaper than the RTX 2070 Super with a huge eBay sale. How did I do lads.
Carter Morales
>old card gets replaced by newer card with much better performance >still the same heat output, EVGA can use the same highly competent heatsink and fan setup That's why I only buy EVGA. Can't wait for my 2080 Super.
Parker Sanders
king of poo?
Landon Scott
Decent CPU architecture doesn't bottleneck your RAM
Camden Cook
Yes, those people buy a 3900x which blows a 9900k the fuck out in everything that matters.
Geekbench memory is a huge part of the score, dumbass. It has nothing to do with the architecture, it's a retarded benchmark and even author admits it. A 3600 with fast memory can get close to 5900 SC, the fag that posted the 3800x score gimped it on purpose.
Hunter Green
Yeah I'm sure going to 3733 would give a HUGE jump in performance.
Hey lads Music fag who’s been waiting to build his pc for fucking ages now, argued with lots of you about this and that, haven’t had internet access for a week or so and to DAWbench marks are finally here from *the* quintessential reviewer for the industry.
Needless to say I will be buying the 3900X, genuinely seems like unless you are a faggot who plays video games then AMD covers every base unless your are needing the sort of power that comes from the 9980etc stuff which is very very few users. AMD stand up,I was originally considering the 9920 for £1200 which put my build to around £3k and AMD brings equivalent power and brings the build to around £2300, money which will be spent on other very relevant gear.
Brilliant.
Christian Carter
That's not what I meant. I mean the fact that they have shitty 16MB chips on their mobos that cannot handle zen2 code and have now rushed a new shoddy beta bios out of the door that disables certain features
Brandon Gray
3600 with crap timings is barely better than 3200 with good timings. And nothing was done with tuned subtimings. Retarded test.
Just roll back the drivers. If you cannot do such a simple task, you are literally retarded.
Luke Parker
Well since a 9900K blows the absolute fuck out of a 3900X for gaming, "Which 90% of everybody who buys it is going to do". I think your reasoning is a little flawed. A fine tuned 9900K in single core is unbeatable. see
>early drivers aren't optimized >this is news low energy
Brandon Kelly
>quad channel getting btfo by intels duel channel
kek
Isaiah Perry
Yeah go on, spend all that extra for 0.7% more performance retard.
Ryder Scott
the new BIOS will fix it anyway
Christian Campbell
>calls people faggots for playing video games >buys $3k pc to make music unless you make 10k a month you have no excuse
Asher Davis
>Buying a $300+ CPU for the sole reason of gimping it
Adrian Wilson
how can they get even worse than at launch?
The GSkill Aegis is the only memory model that I've ever really had problems with, maybe get Ripjaws V instead. Also there will be an updated 2080 in a few weeks.
Hunter Perry
Don't forget the scheduler update Atleast 15% more fps
Kevin White
Stop shitposting and answer me
Easton Butler
Whatever nerd You get one life and spend it playing games have fun with that loser
Isaiah Cruz
Welcome to Jow Forums, where being retarded on purpose is a sport.
Samuel Morgan
Stock vs stock, there's a 5% difference at 1080p. We will see "tuned" benchmarks a couple of months from now when people completely figure Zen 2 out. I bet that the 9900k won't blow anything the fuck out. If it does, farmer manbabies and literal children should buy it, I guess.
Luis Hernandez
>just wait
Evan Howard
The test says that the 3900X still has the latency issue because of the multiple chiplets though?
Carson Stewart
you mean Jow Forums it's literally site culture
Logan Flores
>saying all of this on Jow Forums >>>>>>Reddit.com
Jacob Ward
that's some massive damage control
Christian Nguyen
>spend $1000 on a PC >yeah who cares about that performance just compromise
Caleb Jackson
>0.7%
Jack Young
>trying this hard please go eat some cow dung or some other staple food pajeet, you sound anermic
Jordan Morgan
Damage control? Nah, AMD is retarded, that's for sure, but that doesn't entitle you to be moronic as well. Rollback, or buy NV.
