Design laptop keyboard

>design laptop keyboard
>switch fn and ctrl
why

because they can

As a MAC user, Command is closer to the spacebar so this Control placement is much better if I were to use it.

>trying to press cuhtarryl
>accidently press fin
FFFFFFFFFF

why not just switch the keys? I dont get the problem.

Back when they did it it I don't think it was such a big deal since the industry was a bit of a wild west still.
Also "IBM designers chose this arrangement at least in part because it allowed the laptop's ThinkLight to be turned on in the dark simply by feeling for the keys in two of the keyboard's corners" according to wikipedia. That is actually pretty handy.
Rip thinklight btw.

just remap the keys bruh, literally 30 seconds on linux, windows, and hackintosh

remember if something doesn't sparks joy...

Fuck off with your idpol

to keep normalfags away
shoo btw

in-n-out of bios in 60 seconds, a wakaliwood production

There is an option to invert the key assignment in BIOS.

You can do it in BIOS.

All good laptops have it like that.

>no context menu key
>Just use Shift+F10 instead!
I hate this so much.

This is the right placement
This was used on sun workstations
It's also the right positioning for vi
Actually Microsoft fucked it up when the squeezed the windoes key in there

>This was used on sun workstations
What was the compose key used for?

They also don't have menu key. But oh well they make good shit.

Because tradition

>as a
>mac user
Opinion discarded.

I had to reverse the order it in BIOS.

FN on the side is better, because you rarely press it anyway,
Having the CTRL key closer to the main keyboard area is a lot better and makes all the CTRL shortcut combinations more comfortable to press.

Stop being such a fag and try it out.
>e.g. Press CTRL + T,
>pinkie on CTRL, index on T
>Now try it as if it were at the edge (press the FN key)
>It's a little bit harder now because your fingers have to extend more

There’s an option in the BIOS to swap them.

If you were a real Macfag you'd know Mac isn't an acronym.

When will laptop and keyboard manufacturers put the modifier keys on the thumbs? It's fucking stupid.

do you mean e.g. swapping ctrl and alt or something else, where spacebar isn't where it is now?

If it's a Thinkpad keyboard, there's a bios option to swap them back. Probably on other machines with similar keyboards as well.

Yes, for example: swapping the right alt with control. This way you have both modifier keys (Alt and Ctrl) under your thumbs (left and right).
That's how I've configured it on my system (Xorg config files).
It is much more ergonomic and comfortable.

Who cares? You're supposed to swap Ctrl and Caps anyway

The biggest problem is it having a windows key

wtf is that between the Z and left shift?
why

remap

chinkpad x220 doesn't have this problem

That's probably an ISO keyboard.

The same thing it's used for now. You do use it, right?

No, you bind esc to caps lock.

Why the hell would you do that?

So it's easier to reach, being in the homerow. Don't wanna sprain my fingers using a text editor.

Most text editors don't require regular use of Esc

Coincidentally (?), most text editors are also shit.

Including Vi(m)

Good thing that I use neovim then.

>I don't use Vim I use a Vim fork
In other words it's still shit

you mean switched alt and windows key

That's nothing compared to this shit.

I. Fucking. Hate. Mac keyboards.
Using command is fucking finger breaking.

It's so much better. Why would you use your pinky for Ctrl when you could use your thumb for Cmd? I remap shit on every other OS to replicate OS X's keybindings

>your thumb
what

You use your thumb to press Cmd, not your fucking pinky

That's nothing, arrow keys being used almost never.

Well what if you need spacebar. Your pinky is just being put to waste by using your thumb. CTRL is better.

Need to press the spacebar while holding Cmd? The only time I've ever done that was for Cmd+Space, which can be done with just the thumb. Cmd is objectively better, you just need to get over your baby duck syndrome

You don't type text or code do you retard

>arrow keys are for gaymzz

>>no context menu key
>>Just use Shift+F10 instead!
>I hate this so much.

The majority of Jow Forums aren't fingerlets like you

You have two thumbs
Stop suckling on one, thinkbabby

That guy's a wintoddler. He doesn't know shit about keyboard shortcuts or touch typing.

Oh sorry I forgot you don't use a mouse

Who started this trend? Apple? MacBook?
